Pretty average modern Japanese style hotel, albeit they seem to be making many recent improvements. The bathrooms had old tired floors, but the walls, tubs, sinks, and toilets were all new and wonderful. The carpet was worn and old in places, but in others brand new. The rooms were filled with 1980s wallpaper, but the bedding and televisions were new. So you get the point...the place is on the up and up and not a chain hotel... Clean, comfortable and in a great place to see a lot of things. Seriously, Onomichi and the inland sea are a gorgeous stop...and this is a good place to get some rest before your bike or ride through the area! If your room faces the harbor you are in luck for a show of boats passing too and fro...just remember that early morning light warms the rooms quick! Beds were Japanese style twin beds, a little more firm than a soft American like me likes but definitely softer than others. The duvets were warm and snug...and they had the awesome soft side/bean side pillows I like now. So comfy! The coffee isn't in the room, but there is a great machine down the hall for American style coffee...just be careful walking back to your room! The restaurant and other amenities seem awesome, but we didn't partake. The television has VOD which you need a ticket from the vending machine room (make sure your kids don't see the adult VOD pamphlet when you get into the room). Oh and there's a massage chair on the 6th floor...love these things after a long day of walking!…
Although the building is a little old, I could stay comfortably since a bathroom seemed renovated and bed linen had no smell. Breakfast didn’t offer many dishes which was a little disappointed. The location is very good, just a few min walk from Onomichi station.
As it was rainy season I didn't want to 'lock-down' any firm plans, bookings or payments so when I saw a short fine weather 'window' day for my Shimanami Kaido ride I dashed from Tokyo to Onomichi. Not knowing/planning where to stay I saw this nice, convenient, clean, newish hotel right on the waterfront and on enquiry they had spare rooms. Views are good and rooms are a decent size by Japanese standards. The front desk staff team I encountered were glum and not very friendly at all. Rates were ¥7500 on one day and ¥8500 on another - different days, different rooms and both 'walk-ins'. I didn't eat at the hotel restaurants but there is a good waterfront restaurant on the ground floor called The Waterfront. The hotel has a coin laundry, 4 bike racks on the lobby floor, is close to Onomichi JR station and 7-11. The small bike ferry of the SK is literally right outside the hotel. Green Hill is about a 1min walk to the public bike rental outlet and about 2mins to the Giant store/U2. Would return for sure.…
We just stayed for 3 nights in a Bayview Twin Room. Room was quite large by Japanese standards and more like a USA sized room. Place was very clean, internet was lightning fast with 5G service (faster than any of the Japanese big city hotels we have stayed in), and great shower pressure. Even had a washer and dryer on the premises. Location could not be better. Just 5 minute easy walk from the JR Onomichi train station (can see the hotel from the station), right by the ferry terminal with easy access to bike rentals and the Shimanami Kaido cycle route. We took the ferry to Setoda and chose to start riding from there. There is a nice bike shop with Giant bikes for just 1500¥ for 5 hours which we used for our ride. Beautiful scenic ride with bike lanes separate from cars. Lots of restaurants nearby (if only more of them were open). Good bakery The Little Mermaid is close by for coffee and pastries. Overall, the hotel was ideal for us. Only wish the front desk spoke more English. …
This hotel is spotlessly clean, is right on the harbour in Onomichi, and is a minute walk from the train station. Like many Japanese hotels, they provide all little extras in the bathroom, and loads of soap, shampoo and conditioner. The key drawback was the queen sized be was pressed up against the wall, but the rest of the room was spacious enough. The breakfast buffet was mainly Japanese food, with enough variety to keep us Westerners happy.
