For location you cannot beat this hotel. It is facing a pedestrianised promenade and the beautiful beach. The promenade is a lovely stroll into the tourist zone of Roquetas de mar. Here you will find all the typical tourist shops, bars and restaurants. Writing this review still under COVID-19 restrictions, this hotel went above and beyond for hygiene. Excellent practices including face masks and hand gel available upon arrival. Sanitising of the sunbeds and hand-rails throught the day. Mask wearing compulsary for staff and guests and disposable gloves, again compulsary, in the self service dining room. Food was of a good standard and always a good selection. There are themed dinners most nights.. Chinese, Mexican, Spanish, Curry, Mediterranean and this is alongside the normal selection. I was disappointed with the Spanish themed night. I felt that the more "genuine" Spanish food was to be had on the normal buffet. The tortilla Española tasted more like an egg flan. Although the empanada gallega was nice. All inclusive is very much worth the money. We had nice Rioja wine with our meals but everything else was available, including cava and "tinto de verano" (like Sangría but without the trimmings). At the outside bar you can help yourself to San Miguel and soft drinks, although you must wear a glove and a facemask. The all inclusive drinks were not all cheap local brands which was a nice change. We had baileys, malibu, bacardi etc. A little disappointed with using cardboard cups for drinks outdoors, but understandable. Entertainment was popular with the guests but it was directed entirely at the Spanish audience. I did think that maybe 33% of guests were foreign, from all over Europe and the entertainment should have been directed to a more international audience. There was 1 show which had no spoken language so could be enjoyed by everybody. More of this please!! Inside the rooms we had 2 enormous beds. The room had a free safe and also a fridge. Not much storage but we managed. The hairdryer was powerful. Nice of the hotel to leave a toothbrush, toothpaste, shoe shine, and a comb alongside the usual shampoo and shower gel. There isn't a kettle in the rooms so best to take a travel one if you like a morning coffee on the balcony. The TV had some foreign channels and lots of local radio stations. Sadly, this hotel suffers from the selfish mentality of guests reserving sunbeds with towels and disappearing for hours. Other hotels have combatted this and have changed the mentality of guests so it no longer happens. Sabinal should look into this. Because of COVID, only one party is allowed in the lifts at one time. There were 3 lifts but the wait for a free one was quite long. Nothing the hotel can do about this. It's just a little frustrating. We don't normally like to visit the same place more than once but would not hesitate in returning here. We had a lovely time in Roquetas.

I am loathe to write this because I want to keep the Best Sabinal to myself. I’ve used this hotel for the last 25 years. If you want to go to Spain and embrace a ‘Spanish Holiday’ this is the place. If you want fish n chips or a pie and a pint go to Benidorm or Blackpool. The hotel have pulled out all the stops following (ongoing) pandemic and I can’t praise the staff enough. The rooms and public areas are maintained to a high standard, the food and restaurant are of a really high quality with lots of choice. It can be a bit chaotic as the hotel is predominately (90%) occupied by Spanish holiday makers. If you know Spain you will know that the Spanish don’t do things quietly, which all adds to the fun. My Spanish is improving and once the staff and local bar owners realise you are trying to make an effort they go that little bit extra to make you feel welcome. The area is not Monte Carlo or St Tropez but it has a likeable albeit sometimes ramshackle array of bars, coffee shops and some fantastic Tapas Bars, you just need to look for them. The Best Sabinal is the best place to get involved and the best place to enjoy a ‘Spanish Holiday’
