I ventured to Hotel Alcide in Poggibonsi for a business trip in September 2019 for two weeks. And what a stay it turned out to be! Situated in the Val d'Elsa area amongst the Tuscan hills, Hotel Alcide is the perfect place to stay to do some exploring (when one isn't working). Poggibonsi is easily accessible by train from Florence and has fantastic bus links to the hillside towns of San Gimignano and Siena. Don't rely on being able to get a taxi, though, from Poggibonsi station to get to the actual hotel; this quintessential Italian village runs on its own clock most of the time. Instead, contact the hotel beforehand and they will be only too happy to give you the walking directions (about 10-15 minutes). The staff at both Hotel Alcide and the Ristorante Alcide (delicious fish!) are simply outstanding - always smiling, always willing to help, always ready with a suggestion of what to do, where to go and what to eat. The staff truly made my two-week stay at this family-run hotel thoroughly enjoyable, and I just know that I will go back. The room was a generous size, as was the bathroom. Everything was clean and tidy, there was free wi-fi, and the bed was oh so comfy. It was warm weather while I was there and I'm pleased to say the air-conditioning worked just as it should. With a glorious view looking out to the hills, it was a pleasure to open my curtains each morning. The breakfast buffet had a wide selection of pastries, eggs, cold meats, fruit, etc - a perfect way to start the day. Overall, great value for money! As an aside, the meeting room was perfect for what we needed, with coffee served as well as some Italian fayre in the way of cakes, pastries and other goodies. The air-con in there worked too! Vogt, Luigi, Simone, Lapo, Roberta, Fernanda and Emanuela - it was sad to leave you all because you truly made Alcide like a home away from home.…
I recently came in October for a wedding and stayed at the Hotel Alcide. Tomas was very friendly and very accommodating to our needs. We had wine and meat and cheese board our first night which was perfect because we arrived late and most places were closed. The following morning I had complimentary breakfast which was delicious with pasties, eggs, and coffee just what I needed. The staff was very helpful pleasant and outstanding to be around. The rooms were very nice shower was great and plenty of bathroom space to get ready. I would recommend this hotel to anyone at anytime. Thank you Tomas very being a great host :) we will definitely be back again :)
We stayed here on a last minute whim when staying in the area for a wedding. It’s in a good location for exploring Poggibonsi. The rooms are clean and modern and have everything you could need for your visit ... including comfortable beds! Mainly though, we were incredibly impressed with the staff who were very friendly and could not do enough for us - especially Simone C who helped us get a comfortable room and find a taxi for a difficult journey at the last minute!
Although the looks from the outside might give the hotel an old vibe, the hotel rooms are really comfortable. Very good beds and airconditioning. Neat bathroom and great staff make this an excellent stay in Italy.
Very well placed to visit the main sights in Tuscany. Walkable to local station to get trains into Florence and Siena easily. Excellent breakfast. Helpful staff and Prosecco welcome. Room OK and big bed, but noisy at night with other people showering. On the downside we were confirmed as having a safety deposit box and brewing facilities. Non existent. They delivered a tray the second day with a kettle, cups, tea but no milk. This was never replenished in five days. City taxes and restaurant charges hike up your final bill. Parking is easy and free. WiFi was really inconsistent.
