Our last stop on our Tuscany tour and we saved the best til last! This Agritourism is very comfortable, well located for touring southern Tuscany and Francesco was a great host, offering us loads of photographic locations, restaurant recommendations, local area maps etc. I agree with previous reviewers that better sign posting off the main road would help - we...

Imagine you've travelled all the way from San Francisco, California, with husband and 3 young kids for their first trip to Europe, flown into Rome via London (a 24 hour journey), rented a car, driven several hours only to reach the outskirts of Pienza when you receive a call: "Sorry, no room for you at Il Macchione, your room is...

Il Macchione - what a stunner. The location is awesome only five minutes out of the picturesque Pienza. The views across the valley are amazing especially with the sunlight bouncing off the pool. The breakfast is beautiful with a huge range of home made cakes which were delicious. The apartment we had was comfortable and our daughter had her cotbed...

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights and had an amazing time. The grounds are beautiful, exactly the type of environment I wanted to stay in while in "Tuscany." It's quiet, private and only a km away from Pienza, which is a gorgeous town. The rooms are very nice with great added features like a local wine selection...

We stayed at Il Macchione in January 2014 with our 7 and 5 year old daughters and both sets of grandparents. It was idyllic and I can only imagine how wonderful it would be in summer. Francesco and his family were wonderful hosts. The breakfasts were super great and we absolutely loved Isadoro the beautiful cat. The villa rooms were...

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Il Macchione. I arrived early on Easter Sunday and the staff did everything to get me into my room as soon as possible. The owner Francesco is terrific and speaks perfect English. I miss Tuscany and the hospitality already! Clean and spacious accommodation with amazing olive oil produced on the property. Very...

I am an expat living in Florence, Italy and this past weekend I had relatives come to visit. We decided to stay at this amazing agriturism for three days. It was a true dream holiday. All around us was like we were living in a painting. The location was perfect (1 km from Pienza) and half way between Montepulciano and...

The rooms are huge, the beds soft, the shower hot. The hosts welcoming with hone made breakfasts, fresh coffee and their own wine, olive oil and pecorino cheese. We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 nights stay. It's a perfect base for Pienza and Valle D'Orcia. Francesco's recommendations for local restaurants were great

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Dating to XVIIIth century and close to nearby Pienza, amidst the view of the Val d'Orcia, a pleasant and panoramic area, lies the ancient stone farmhouse of Podere "Il Macchione". Completely rebuilt with great respect for the original design, the farmhouse has been subdivided into four lodgings and a common room.
