A nice accommodation in an old house, an excellent sauna (the one included in the room price) and friendly service. The room was rather basic, but offered everything we needed for our short stay. Good breakfast, we did not try the restaurant because of lack of time. The location is very good for hiking the nearby nature paths.

Merenkurkun Majatalo is located in the remote Björköby village in Kvarken area. The B&B is located is few old buildings which has been somewhat renovated but with no understanding how to renovate. The overall atmosphere is shabby. Since they do not have online reservation system (but a tiny booklet), they prefer reservations to be made by phone. Emails are not preferred, because they cause work. I had made the reservation by phone, but received no confirmation. As we arrived 3 weeks after reservation was made, I was told that they had made the reservations for the next day and only one of the reserved rooms would be available. They promised to sort out the second room, but this turned out to be a lie. Instead a b&B room, we got a store room (with broken window covered with a sheet and plenty of cartoon boxes piled up next to bed). The other rooms was as ordered (room with a shower & toilet), but hardly was any better. There was a distinct smell of mold everywhere and since there was no a/c or ventilation in the room we had to keep the door open in order to get some fresh air. This cause continuous attack of mosquitos. We ended up fighting with the mosquitos all night and sleeping with our clothes on since we could not trust that any of the surfaces would be clean. Although the breakfast was included in the room rate, we decided not to have that since we had no trust that the hygiene would be any better with the food preparation. At the end they charged us only for one room (instead of 2), but even that was too much. Thus strongly NOT recommended.

Stayed here one night with our family of 5. We booked last minute and got really friendly service by phone. Our room was at the granary and it was simple and clean. I think this place has potential for higher ratings but the two points come from the areas we shared with other guests (bathrooms & sauna) that were just really not clean (to the point that I wanted to avoid going there). Also I guess I expected a little more from the archipelago breakfast.

If you're looking for a simple, clean and friendly place to stay the Merenkurkun Majatalo is the one. Stayed for one night in the granary. The room was very simple, no TV but had an en-suite bathroom. Anyway it was a clean and comfortable small room. Very cute :) There is a TV in the main building and a bar too. The breakfast was plentiful but for my taste it started little bit too late, at 9am. The owner was very nice and helpful. I'd stay again. The Björkby is near by as well as the Salteriet cafe&restaurant, Saltkaret obseration tower and Bodvattnet runt. I'm torn with average and very good but perhaps it's average+ :)
