There are lots of really good things about the Pension Santa Elena - the breakfast, the price (nowhere else in Costa Rica did we find such good backpacker accommodation), the location and in particular the staff who go out of their way to help. But...More
Really happening hostel (but quiet enough after 10pm) with lots of fantastic & friendly information. We took a guided tour of the Curi-cancha reserve with Ronald & saw quetzals & a toucan. Amazing. The night tour was also really good (although slightly bigger groups of...More

I would like to know what is included in the free breakfast. Also, is the shuttle service free? Does the shuttle transport guests to tours?

As the other respondent said, the shuttle is not free, but I can't really imagine it would be as Santa Elena is way up in the mountains. A resort close to the airport could have a free shuttle theoretically, but I never saw any free shuttles really. There are plenty of transportation options for tours and activities. Sometimes the place that you get the tour will send transport or the kind folks at the pension can help arrange things for you.
