We loved Hammock House so much that we booked an extra night almost as soon as we arrived. There are only six rooms (and three bathrooms!), which makes it feel much more like a shared house than a hostel. Edwin and Joanna were incredible hosts, providing a wealth of information and making us feel like family. You get to choose a breakfast every morning; it's fresh, health, and a great way to start the day! The house is very clean and really nicely furnished, and there are lots of nooks in which to relax. My favorite part of HH is the balcony out back, which is a fabulous place to sit and read or birdwatch with a cup of coffee during an afternoon rainstorm. This is one of the best hostels I've stayed in in over 30 countries of backpacking, and I can't recommend it highly enough. Also - strong WiFi and hot water!!!

The owner was friendly and offered extensive information on what to do in the area. The facilities were great, not as many hammocks present as you'd expect with a name like “hammock house”. Rooms were a little bit musty but I think that's probably almost unavoidable since Santa Elena is probably pretty damp year-round. Breakfast was good!

My partner and I stayed for two nights in a cute little private room. The staff were very friendly and helped us book multiple tours/activities. There was a great outdoor kitchen where we were able to get a fresh/local breakfast. Overall, an awesome place to stay!

I stayed here for 3 nights in a four bed mixed dorm in mid-December. Check in was easy, and I also booked a couple activities through the hostel. Location is great, it’s right near the main town area, but far enough that it was very quiet at night. There are three bathrooms, but two of them don’t have hot water. If you want a hot shower, head to the renovated bathroom outside at the back of the building. Note that towels are not supplied. It’s not a big place, with only a few rooms, and the whole house had a very cozy vibe to it, which was very welcoming in the chilly Monteverde weather. The dorm room was very large and spacious and had individual lockers. The bunks were fairly solid and the room was dark, which was perfect for sleeping. The mattresses are not the greatest though, as they are made of some sort of foam that flattens with weight, so by morning you are basically laying on the wooden frame. The WiFi connection was great throughout the whole place, including outside in the front area. The front area of the grounds is where the restaurant is. Breakfast is included and consists of coffee, tea, fresh fruit, and eggs made to order with either toast or gallo de pinto. You can also order other food from the menu all day. It is reasonably priced, and the food is good. If you prefer to cook your own food, there is a full kitchen in the house with supplies. I liked this place and might stay here again, but I also might look around for more comfortable beds.
