Wow! Words can not describe how wonderful this resort is. Juan and his crew were absolutely the best at everything, from tours, food cleanliness and kindness. He planned our wedding and made it the most beautiful special day we could ever ask for. They spent all day building our wedding alter in the hot sun digging post holes for the gorgeous bamboo. They finished it with beautiful tropical flowers and it was perfect. We love Tambor and will definitely be back. Thanks guys!!! From the new Mr. & Mrs. Loveless❤️
There are no words that can truly describe how terrific this place is, but I can try. I’ll just say the location is spectacular on Ballena Bay, the rooms are gorgeous, and the staff is beyond wonderful. We’ve traveled the world and have been to many great spots, but this is at the top of the list. We spent 9 nights in January surrounded by a lush Mangrove forest, yet only steps from a tranquil beach front. The sunrises were magnificent, & birding from our veranda was superb. You are within walking distance to birding spots on the Panica River, & a lovely beach saunter to the fishing village. Plus, there is always Javier & Sonja onsite to set you up with a multitude of adventures. The excursions & guides they hand-picked for us were perfect. We ate at the restaurant for most meals, oh so bueno! I could not get enough Patacones & Daiquiri Limóns There’s a market nearby to purchase all the Lizano Salsa that you will absolutely want to haul home, lol. Everyone was amazing, but Juan Carlos (onsite general manager) exceeded expectations, going above & beyond from booking to departure. He even seamlessly navigated us through the maze of, “Surprise, now you need a Covid Test to reenter the US”. I could not be happier that we were able to safely flee the US, having the weight of doom lifted from our shoulders by the beautiful Tambor Tropical, its people, and all Nicoya Peninsula has to offer. Muchas gracias mis amigos & amigas . . . nosotros volveremos…
We stayed here for 10 nights, and enjoyed every moment. Our second floor suite was roomy and comfortable, with a great kitchenette, but our favorite part was the terrace overlooking Tambor Bay. We spend hours there - watching the birds, listening to the scarlet macaws, periodically catching sight of a local troop of monkeys. This being the time of COVID, we totally appreciated the staff’s compliance to mask-wearing and social distancing. Also, instead of sitting by the pool for the included breakfast, we elected to have it on our terrace; we swapped out towels every second day, and everyone seemed OK with these arrangements. The entire staff made us feel comfortable and welcome, and we particularly appreciated the help of the manager, Juan Carlos, who not only walked us through logistics before we left the US but was also incredibly helpful when we ran into issues (as with the rental car) once we were there. We had intended to explore the local region by car, but we were so taken with Tambor (which, in addition to the resort restaurant where we ate several evenings, has a handful of cafes and cantinas that are all worth at least one visit) that we didn’t end up wandering too far afield. The resort on-site tour company staff was very friendly, producing a sea kayak in a moment’s notice when we had a whim to rent one. If you are looking for a restful and quiet vacation on a beautiful tropical bay surrounded by jungle, you cannot do better than here!…
This place is fantastic! I was traveling solo and initially stayed in Santa Teresa. It was crowded, dusty, and noisy. I found the tambor tropical online and got out of there as soon as I could. I was so glad I did! The pictures do not do this place justice! The rooms are lovely and well appointed, full studio apartments with kitchens and everything you need to cook. The second story units have the best view of the ocean and you can sleep with the windows open hearing the waves crash. It is not directly on the beach, set a bit back, but there’s nothing between you and the water. This part of the area feels more local and less touristy. I enjoyed the peace, quiet, and being surrounded by nature. The resort has a jungle setting behind it that is excellent for all kinds of tropical birdwatching as others have mentioned. I spotted macaws flying around in the nearby trees every morning. Last but not least, the manager, Juan Carlos, is attentive, thoughtful and will take good care of you. Highly recommend this hidden gem Off the beaten path!…
My stay at Tambor Tropical was amazing! The hotel grounds and the suites are beautiful and luxuriously comfortable, and the atmosphere is peaceful. Everyone who works there is charming, kind and very professional. The restaurant served healthy, simple and delicious dishes. They also work with a tour company called Pura Vida that is on-site and that provides excellent services. We used them to go zip-lining and to visit the Montezuma cascades and everything was seamless. I cannot recommend this resort enough!
