We spent couples of night in Lanka Eco Village and all was great, especially the staff. They are all super polite and dedicated, We have been treated like kings. Our room was clean and modern with a very nice sea view, 15min walk from jungle beach.
We stayed as a group of friends here for one night enjoying the heat and sun at Unawatuna. The hotel is linked with Village Thawthisa so you need to go here by car. The rooms are fine to sleep in with lovely views of the hillside but some are a little run down. All have A/C (again hit and miss depending on rooms) but you can use the main hotel pool and eat breakfast bear. The location to the beach is great, you can walk or take a tuk tuk there.
The rooms are situated in the middle of the trees and you have a beautiful view of the ocean. Spacious porch to sit on an watch the monkeys. The bed is amazing - it's quiet and clean. The stairs down is a night mare especially if you carry a suitcase. Please put up a reeling and even the steps.
This should have been a beautiful quiet retreat set among the treetops but within easy (but steep) walking distance of the beach. Beware! A large hotel is being built about 300 metres away just below the balconies of the bungalows. It is unsightly but even worse is the noise which starts soon after dawn and carried on well after night fall with lorries coming and going. In every other respect this was a great place to stay and the manager was very very helpful, but probably best avoided until the building works are complete.
Firstly … Does Lanka Eco Village even exist as it’s own place? There are NO signs for this place anywhere in Unawatuna which made finding it in a taxi extremely frustrating! We eventually pulled over and asked someone who said Lanka Eco Village is part of the Villa Thawthisa Hotel. I was surprised as there was no mention of it being shared/ owned by another hotel when I booked. So apparently this means that the pool, restaurant and all services that Lanka Eco Village are offering are not actually theirs at all … they are the Villa Thawthisa’s … It’s all just a bit sneaky how they’ve advertised it. We were told on 2 occasions that because we were Lanka Eco Village guests and not Villa Thawthisa guests we could not use certain services even though they were advertised on the Lanka Eco Village website ... This was to open a tab for meals and drinks in the restaurant during our stay and also to use the beach shuttle service and private beach sun loungers. Very disappointing when you have spent a lot of money on a holiday to be told that you cannot do certain things! After I complained I was allowed to do both. The Lanka Eco Village rooms are very nice and the views are amazing, the shared pool access and restaurant are also very nice. I would have marked my stay very highly if they can sort out their confusion about whether they are their own hotel or shared with Villa Thawthisa and what services their guests can or cannot use! The staff at both places even seem confused about the arrangement. Also the entrance to each bungalow at Lanka Eco Village is quite untidy and not very well paved so not ideal for all people.…
