We found much nicer and vastly cheaper elsewhere, But the place is nice enough, people are friendly but, it is very claustrophobic, tucked into a wee corner. I believe it is owned by a large company who set these expensive room prices.
We (family 6 adults) enjoyed a wonderful stay at Thambapanni retreat (hill site) at the end of our Sri Lanka tour. The staff was super friendly and helpful, the garden and rooms were amazing (room 101 is really special) and the pool is a nice one to cool off. There is wide range of massages, given in a separate room. Food was good, location is 5 min from beach and 9 km from Galle historic town. A great place to stay!
What a beautiful hotel with lovely staff! Our room was stunning amongst the trees ,a bit of a climb, 120 steps but well worth it!!! The breakfast was very good with lots of choice. Yoga 🧘♂️ every morning was very good. We had monkeys outside our room in the bamboo trees. We had a problem with our first room but the staff were very good and sorted it promptly. We just had a small gripe..... the staff in the evening spoke very little English and struggled to make them understand. All in all a clean beautiful hotel.
If you want a retreat as the name suggets then yes but to me it was not that luxurious. Rooms were basic but fine. Wifi was not too good. There are bugs around and I heard some animals at night so close doors and windows. Clean. Staff were pleasant. It's not a far walk to the beach, restaurants and bars but it still felt secluded to me. I would prefer something more in the middle of all the action. If your looking for peace and calm, then yes but this is not a luxury resort. There is a pool. I didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on this.
The hotel is beautifully located. It has it all. It is quiet and peaceful with lots of greenery around. It is a great change from other hotels located just by the beach. We changed the hotel several times and spending a few nights here was just great. Well managed, helpful staff. Great breakfasts.
The last leg of my Sri Lanka trip was spent at Thambapanni in Unawatuna. I spent three relaxing nights there and enjoyed myself. The property is located in a quiet part of town a couple of minutes walk to Unawatuna beach. It is also well located for a walk to jungle beach on the other side. I preferred jungle beach for a swim. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Overall a great place for relaxation. The spa and treatments were very nice and I had the luck to be massaged by Dinusha who created a great atmosphere and was very good! Can recommend getting some treatments as part of your stay.
We spent the last few days of our 16 day trek at this lovely hotel 5 minutes walk from Unawatuna beach. The rooms were luxuriously comfortable with a balcony surrounded by bamboo and tree canopies, with monkeys climbing by and exotic birds calling. The staff were outstanding with their genuine warmth and welcoming ways. Many thanks to Luxman, Danuka, Farrok and Padmini for making our stay special! The fresh catches for seafood dinners were the best we've ever eaten. Despite it being a very much tourist resort, the sea is wondeful, and you have the lovely beach and warm sea to yourself early morning, or watching electric storms under a starlit sky while you float before bedtime. lovely walks to nearby beaches and temples as well. Alos full of quirky shops for those who like shopping for souvenirs or SRi Lankan jewellery.…
We stayed at the place for 2 nights/ 3 days. We have been there since 2011 me and my husband, later with our two children and now with my husbands local family. Unfortunately not all places want to welcome locals but this place was more than ready to welcome all of us with their hearts open and they always have been. The people in the restaurant are very service minded and it felt like home. Service with a smile. Thank you all for a perfect stay we loved the rooms, view and that we was upgraded without asking. A special thanks to Padmini and her team. We can definitely recommend this beautiful place in Unawatuna for all kind of people. We will come back. Best regards Anura & Mia with family
Beautiful hotel in an amazing setting, excellent food and the staff were extremely helpful. I stayed here for 11 nights on a yoga retreat so it gave me enough time to really appreciate the facilities. Ranjan does a yoga class every day at 8am which you need to book which is a very good class. He is a very experienced Hatha yoga teacher and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I also did a 1 hour treatment every day with Ranjan and his knowledge of Ayurveda is phenomenal. He is also very professional and I came to truly look forward to my treatment every day. More generally, we had Sri Lankan food every day which was prepared to a very high standard and the staff were very attentive, nothing was too much trouble. The location is perfect to walk into the village or to go to the beach. I will be back in a few years and I am already looking forward to it.…
We have been here 3 times. First time room 101 and the 2 last times room 109. Loved everything, staff, ambiance, food and peacefulness. However, last visit in January 2020 was a deception. Furniture on our terrace was incomplete en worst of all there was a group of Russian guests sitting all day by the pool with loud music from their ghettoblasters. Staff didn't do anything to stop them! Enough reason not to come back anymore.
