Tired hotel, pool area does not match lovely photos. Dog mess in grounds, several dogs on the property Dirty bath and surround Basic 2nd bed if you need a twin room, with itchy sheets and no mosi net ( used my own wrap as a bed sheet) No lunch service, breakfast buffet does not reflect Sri Lankan cuisine
We stayed one night and yes overpriced for what you got .. Room was okay but tired and shower dangerous due bulge in bath ... Breakfast was fine as they had an egg 9 which did egg hoppers .. 10 min walk to beach was a bonus
We just love it here. Feels like home from home. Thank you to Sassi and his wonderful Staff. Food is excellent quality and plentiful amounts, service is excellent, very friendly people and location perfect. If you want privacy book the penthouse with your own private pool. Set off the little road that leads to the beach with plenty of eateries, shops and bars along the way. Absolute paradise ♥️♥️♥️♥️
This hotel was the worst out of 7 hotels on our 3 week holiday and one of the most expensive. I cannot understand the good reviews. I'll start with the goods points. Lovely dog, friendly and helpful staff, very nice grounds and swimming pool, cheap beer. Now the not so good. We were provided a room in what I assume to be the old part of the hotel across the street. This building is not well maintained with smashed windows and rusting metal work. Our room on the first floor was dark and dingy with electrical cables hanging out the wall where the now absent but well needed lights used to be. The room was in need of a serious update. When we plugged our phone charger in the electrics tripped out. Off I went to reception to request and replacement room. I was told that there was no other rooms available and I would have to wait 2 days to be moved (we were only staying 4 nights). With no other option I accepted and when back to the room to get a shower. Next problem. They had placed a shower over a jacuzzi bath. This type of bath isnt meant to be stood up in so has a bulge in the floor (ie to support the back of your legs if you were laying down) right under where the shower was placed making standing under shower pretty dangerous as you keep slipping off the bulge. I then noticed a 4 inch hole in the bath and had to cut my shower short and go back to reception. Reception marcurasly found a replacement room on the second floor but told us we could only have this for 1 night n then we need to move again the next day. The new room was a big improvement until we found a dead cockroach in the bed netting but we couldn't be bothered with anymore complaining so just let it go. The next day I went to reception and was told we would be moving at 12. So off the pool we went for a few hours. Not wanting to bug the staff as I assumed they would come and get us when the new room was available we waited until 1:30 at which point we wanted to go out for lunch so need to put our bags in our new room. The man on reception replied with 'I told you we would move you in 2 days not today'. I explained that another member of staff told us differently upon the second reception visit the previously day that we would now be moving today and also that someone had told me this morning we would be moving at 12pm?? After some conferring being staff they picked up keys and took us to a new room which was nice, finally. I say nice but not great as all the rooms we seen need updating and a deep clean and were the worst of our entire holiday. They also didn't bother to fix the hole in the bath as a new couple entered that room shortly after our departure. The restaurant although nice lacks anything remotely sri lankan or traditional or even asian. On the lunch menu there was a choice between pizza, pasta, sandwiches or some odd bunless burger. I cant comment on the evening menu as the lunch menu choice or lack of it put me off returning for another visit. The breakfast buffet had an egg man which is always a bonus. The drinks in this hotel were cheap. Oddly cheaper than outside the hotel which was good. This hotel was also the only place on our whole holiday which charged 2.5% commission in order to use a credit card. No other hotel or restaurant charged a commission so this hotel are just being greedy. When we were leaving we ordered an uber. When the uber turned up the hotel tut tut and taxi drivers started verbally abusing our driver and lying that we had agreed to take a trip with them and he was not allowed to pick people up from the hotel. We had never even spoken to these other drivers our whole stay. The hotel needs to sort these guys out as people being bullied into paying their ridiculous greedy prices isnt fair or good for the hotels reputation. This hotel is not cheap and purports to be a 4*. While I'm not expecting UK 4* it fell well short of this and its price tag expectations. All our other hotels across Sri Lanka were much better and much better value for money. Our hotel in Mirissa at £25 cheaper per night blew this hotel out the water in terms of style and cleanliness. There are many other hotels in unawatuna at a similar or lower price which must be better than this place. Hotel flower garden appears to be living on a reputation based on its former glory and the fact it has 2 very nice swimming pools. Update your hotel and sort the tut tut/taxi mafia out. …
Not sure is it unawatuna or the flower garden that attracts us back every year. Probably both. But after six years the flower garden is like home away from home. For us there is no better place to stay in unawatuna. Only minutes away from the Main Street and beach but if you decide to stay in hotel grounds you have two pools to chose from, sun beds, excellent restaurant for days snacks and top class meal in evenings, or stay in or outside your cabana to read in total peacefulness in the beautiful gardens. The staff are wonderful , very helpful and friendly, always smiling, be it first think in morning for breakfast or last thing at night for drinks. So if your going to unawatuna I couldn't recommend flower garden highly enough, go and enjoy...
Stay was just fine. We had the rooms with a private pool, really nice! But one night i woke up from some guys that work there and sat on the terrace in the room next to us, playing cards at 2 at night.. And i was asking for some help with booking another hotel in the next town - one guy helped me, 4 other male staffmembers were sitting at the same desk, talking in their own language, looking at me, laughing en looking again. Felt really uncomfortable as a woman alone... Pool is great, but would not go back, just because of the weird staff..
I recently spent two weeks in one of the Cabanas which was well equipped with air-conditioning, fans, spa and comfortable bed and furnishings. The grounds were so peaceful and pleasant to return to after a day out and the two pools well maintained. I am in my seventies and most of the other guests when I was there were young families. The meals were especially good and the staff so friendIy and helpful. Wifi is available and short walk to beach. I would happily recommend this hotel to anyone who likes to enjoy gardens and a tranquil atmosphere.
If you want a super relaxing place to stay, choose Hotel Flower Garden, Unawatuna. We stayed in a cabana which was fully equipped with mosquito net, fridge, water, towels and mini toiletries. There was also a hairdryer. The hotel offer a laundry service which we used as we were nearing the end of our trip! The room was really nice, however, the wifi didn't seem to extend to our cabana (although we didn't ask for assistance with this and just used the wifi in the lounge!) The breakfast was delicious!! Especially the egg hoppers. A real treat! The pools were so relaxing and empty on every occasion we used them! Although this is based on the number of guests staying at the hotel. We were lucky to have them to ourselves! The staff were fabulous and the resident dog, gorgeous! We had drinks in the lounge in the evening before heading out to dinner and he often came to say hello :) The location is very good - it is quiet, but close enough to walk to everything - including the beautiful beach. One evening we ate at Thraproban Beach House - a 13 minute walk away - and it was brilliant. There are many delicious places to eat nearby. This includes 7en4teen (looks like ten4teen!) a local eatery. Thank you Hotel Flower Garden. A great way to end our trip to Sri Lanka!…
We stayed two nights at Flower Garden Hotel in Unawatuna. This is the last leg of our two week holiday and we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived and were seated in the tranquil foyer. Our rooms were clean, tidy and very spacious. We booked the Deluxe Family Room which is actually two very large rooms (the size of a small house!) on the second floor. We had a balcony overlooking one of the beautiful pools. Air conditioning and ceiling fans were in all main rooms and were pumping out luxurious cool air. The hotel has two pools and a large dining area. Dinner was available to purchase and a buffet breakfast was included in the booking price. We were all very satisfied with the breakfast options. We were able to walk to nearby restaurants, ATM and the beach and wander the streets and shops on the way. Many tuktuks were available but we did not need them here.…
We booked this place thinking it would be just about average but it surpassed our expectations in more ways than one. The rooms were big and tastefully designed with a mix of old and new Sri Lankan furniture, the service was great and the breakfast buffet was to die for! But the best is definitely the pool! Quiet, secluded and with lovely warm and inviting water, the pool(s) (there are two) is definitely the best feature of the hotel. Enjoyed our stay and will definitely come again!
