Great location right next to the main beach, nice bar, free diving lessons, extremely friendly staff and good facilities in the hotel..but..few issues with the air conditioning system, few drainage issues in the rooms and the restaurant menu is dreadful. However, the staff tries their...More
We were a group of 11 ladies who traveled to Sri Lanka for a fun-filled beach holiday and we can say that our expectations were indeed met.
Staff were all attentive and always on hand to assist us with our requests.

Close to beach, good food, nice rooms. However, I would not say that Unawatuna is the beach for everyone as it is Very Quiet!

i was badly amazed at how the photos are not like the reality. We were given the room with bad smell in the bathroom, the bed linen is dirty, it’s grey and smelly, with stains. The reception is non-existent, they don’t explain even where the...More
We had a great stay at this resort. The staff were mostly very good - assisted me with a late check out and trip to the airport for a good price. The weather was bad at the time - but the beach is literally on...More

The snorkeling at Unawatuna is not horrible. At least not for this novice and his family. You can book a boat for about 40$ for three hours. This included equipment for 2 adults and 2 children. I think the going rate is 15$ per person. You can negotiate to bring you to Jungle beach, the ship wreck and the rocks.
The coral is non existent, but the rocks/reef has abundant fish. You can see a variety of fish, but of course the visibility all depends on the wind/current. I can't even start naming all the fish, because I don't know their names, but there are a variety and they are numerous. I would say that I say at least 20 different types of fish, and more than I can count in total.
