We visited Rathna guesthouse and stayed 5 days, booked it only one day before. Because of the natural reef you can swim in the sea with small children. Our kids were 3 and 6 and they loved to play in the small waves which made it past the reef. Beautiful seeside view excellent food. Only downside ia the busy road...

We didn't stay at the guesthouse, we just sat down in the restaurant for some beers and cocktails. The cocktails were very good. They had a special of cheesecake with mango. The cheesecake was awesome, just loved it! It is generally a really chill place to just sit, talk and look at the beach.

Very good place to stay! With small kids, i recommend to stay in room 8 or 9. These rooms are basic but practical. They are on ground level, have a great balcony and sea view and there is some sand which is safe to play. Very good for swimming, especially with the big sea Turtles. Food was very delucious and...

A group of us visited the restaurant. We decided to just have drinks instead of eating. On four seperate occasions the staff tried to give the incorrect change. This wasn't just a couple of rupees this was trying to take half of what they paid. Be careful if you visit this place.

We were staying in the cabin or cabana or whatever you want to call it right at the beach! We could see turtles from our room. At the restaurant you can order whatever you want at anytime which was really convenient for us and the staff and the family was very nice :) The curry (you have to order it...

Perfect location, outstanding food, very friendly staff. Rooms a little dark but all have verandahs. Amazing to have breakfast and watch turtles swimming in the ocean just a few metres away. Cheap tuk tuk service available. Great place all round.

Ratana Guesthouse is a 100%-local place. The family lives here since 36 years and rebuilt this place after the Tsunami in 2004. They are really helpful in organizing trips and transport. The curry is by far the best I have tried in Sri Lanka. The place itself is being renewed now b/c its low season. The restaurant is really nice...

I came here to try a breakfast because a friend had recommended it. I got here wanting to try a Sri Lankan breakfast and they told me they were only doing cereal and curd. Bit disappointed after I walked 20min in the rain from my own guesthouse. They eventually offered me a Western breakfast which I kindly accepted, but not...

Rathna is a small guesthouse on the Dalawella bay - like a 'home-away-from-home' and the family who run the place have always welcomed us in a really warm and generous way. My wife and our family have stayed there on several occasions and really enjoyed their hospitality. The kids really enjoy the food and the constant access to the beach...

We coudn't sleep here because the Guesthouse was all booked out (so it may be to suggest to book in advance) but we ate at the restaurant. The food was delicious and fresh. The location is perfect: Directly on the beach, so it is perfect to sit there and watch the sunset while you eat something!
