Beautiful hotel and great staff! All the staff are friendly, professional and useful. Great location, everything u need is in the next street (lot of bars and restaurants for everyone’s taste). Also for the small kids is great choice as it’s not so noisy.
We ate the best seafood in Sri Lanka at Tartaruga restaurant. It was the perfect dinner with fresh seafood /delicious garlic butter on top. Nishan was the best waiter. He presented us every kind of fish / seafood and he was very kind and smart.
We stayed 2 nights. Nice location, terrible breakfast (some fruits, toast with jam, that’s basically it). On the beach BUT the property needs some management and cleaning. Disorder on the beach spoils the advantages of location. The superior room we got (in the new part) was ok except for the bathroom: no ventilation results in permanent smell of wet dirty towel all over. The bathroom looks worn-off pretty much. There are much better hotels around (for the price of Tartaruga 110$/night/triple room).
Tartaruga is an excellent place to chill out in Unawatuna. The bar on the beach is the place to be and has the only draft Lion in town. Milan and the bar staff can't do enough. They have all sports on and we even watched the early Premier League matches. Cocktails are great and very reasonable. We ate there many times and the food was always brilliant. Fresh seafood bbq are their speciality but did the best lasagne in had during ny time there. Pizza and pasta great too.
Having visited Unawatuna two years ago (staying in the now closed Calamander) nine of us decided to visit for Christmas and New Year for two weeks. Given all the uncertainty with COVID, I contacted the hotel a few months ago who were most helpful right up to our arrival, even providing complimentary transfer from Bandarnaike Airport and also arranging for PCR tests at the reception before departure. I have to compliment Cristo who managed the reception who before during and after our stay was hugely helpful and professional. This is what I call a "boutique" hotel with about 20 rooms and we didnt really have too high expectations. The rooms were fab - great size, view, facilities and showers whilst spotless. The restaurant was outdoors and I can honestly say was probably the best place to eat in town for lunch or dinner. It had its own following just for meals with many people calling in during the day just for food. This hotel has a small pool which was great to cool down at but also has numerous sun beds and tables with the most space of all on Unawatuna Beach. The jewel in the crown for us was a waiter called Dilshan (Dill). He can give lessons on customer service and nothing was too much trouble. A fab young man and character that deserves to rise through the ranks and made everyones' stay fun and relaxed. We left there to stay in a fancy five star in Colombo, each one of us wishing we were still at the Tartaruga. We travel the world and stay in some of the finest hotels. If you want to stay somewhere different with incredible food and hospitality, it gets five stars from me!…
Spent 12 nights at the Tartaruga over Christmas & New Year and was delighted with our choice. From the moment we arrived the staff were so friendly & welcoming. Most of the staff have worked there for a long time which is always a good sign! It’s location right on the beach is ideal for beach lovers and the front of the hotel is about 50 meters from the bustling street in Unawatuna. The rooms are big, spacious and clean. Same applies to the bathrooms. Food was wonderful too. I would definitely return to the Tartaruga and am happy to recommend it to anyone considering staying there. Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful stay.
Beautiful hotel, great location right on the beach. Rooms spacious & comfortable. Staff were so friendly & helpful. Food is restaurant was excellent! Highly recommend the curry for breakfast! Delicious.
Went to this restaurant. So far the worst place we’ve been to in Unawatuna. Staff doesn’t speak English. Ordered two dishes - grilled garlic prawns and grilled calamari. Got boiled prawns in tomato sauce, no garlic at all. Calamari was also boiled., not grilled. And just so you know, tomato salad - is just one sliced tomato, that is all, no onion, no dressing.
The ocean view is nice, very romantic, but food was terrible pre-heated, frozen calmari, awufull rize with very little sea food inside, actually only the mohito was good. There was no music and u can hear what people talking from the others table. But we enjoyed the view. For beaching is okay, not for lunch.
We arrived here after a somewhat unpleasant experience at another beachside resort. The staff here welcomed us very warmly and were very professional. Food was exceptional. Very chill vibe. Beautifully decorated and rooms were inexpensive, (ground level), private and comfy. Highly recommend.
