Probably the nicest place in town. Atmosphere, staff, food, everything just right. A great place to chill or party when they have a party night. You won’t regret going. Prices are spot on. Recommend all the food. But the paneer curry is my favourite. Huge thanks to the whole team who make this place what it is.

When you backpacking with a child, you need some respite, this was the perfect place, calm sea and safe beach! Marty the owner was very helpful, food simple but tasty, which for us is ideal. Go there it is wonderful!

This place is just great, whether you are planning to stay here or just spend the day Marty the hilarious Aussie and his team work really hard to make sure everyone is relaxed and taken good care of. They do the best coffee in the area, as Marty is a bit of a Bondi Beach Coffee Connosieur and has passed his skills on to his staff. The accomodation is super affordable, and really comfortable. If you surf, you will love it... and if you want to just relax with a book in one of the hammocks, you can do that too! I would suggest getting in early, as it gets busy... and try the woodfired pizza!

Pizza was tough, burnt on the edges and raw in the middle. The seafood on it was tough and didn't taste fresh. As someone else mentioned, I had stomach problems afterwards. We had to eat with a stray dog constantly scratching himself under our table. The food is also quite overpriced for Sri Lanka (1200 rupees for a plain margherita pizza). The only positive is the setting right on the beach, with waves crashing just a few metres away. Won't eat here again.

We stayed at Hiriketiya for 3 nights and loved it.
Cool beach and fun waves.
The food was the only let down. Tasted good and the places had a good vibe looking over the beach but it took 2 hours to get a meal.
The guys tried to charge us 40% service charge one night after we had 2 beers and they told us they couldn't serve us for tea cose we arrived too late (630).
These guys (and the guys next door to beach house Hiriketiya) need to help themselves out and talk to someone about hospitality. I no they are just starting but they will loose lots of business.

Great location! Beautiful rooms, but very lazy and arrogant staff! We stayed here for two nights. Firstly our rooms were not cleaned once. We ran out of toilet paper, luckily we had our own spare roll. They don't sell water at the hotel but have water filters at the bar and in in the bedroom, but guess what!?... Not once were they filled! So make sure you bring your own water. At check in they told us they serve a great breakfast! On the menu it sounded great, and it was quite a generous breakfast, but make sure you get all they promise.... All breakfast get served toast and jam, we never got ours. Also beware when kindly asking for sugar for your coffee as twice it was slammed on the table by the staff. On our second morning, we sat down for breakfast, waited to be served but no one came. Two staff members were stood at the bar when we tried to get there attention they waved their hands calling us to the bar... And we were told we can order at the bar! I was not aware that this was a self service resort! Again! Great rooms! Great location! But definitely not worth the money... Walk down the beach you may find something more worth your money!

It is for sure one of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka but it cannot compensate the indifferent arrogance of the Australian led management which substitutes the usual warm and friendly srilankan hospitality.
Restaurant dirty with slowest service possible. Horrible pizza , plastic glasses , dirty tablecloths . Flies everywhere. All this for a hugely overpriced bill.

We went here a few times during our stay in Hiriketiya as the pizza and location on the beach was great, however we had a terrible experience one evening so I could not recommended this place.

We came for dinner and ordered chicken curry, and a few minutes after this the waiter brought what we thought were two glasses of water. As we had our own water bottle and had been avoiding ice in restaurants in Sri Lanka we did not touch these.

After over an hour waiting we asked the staff if our dinner was nearly ready, however they told us they had not received any order for chicken curry. We understand that sometimes there can be confusion with orders so politely told them that we would get our dinner elsewhere. The staff then told us that they had served us gin and tonics (what we had assumed was water) and that we would have to pay for them. We showed them the full glasses and that we hadn't drank anything except our own water, as we had been expecting chicken curry.

We left and went to the place we were staying to order food. A few minutes later one of the staff followed us and accused us of drinking both gin and tonics and refilling the glasses with water, and demanded that we come back to the restaurant to look at their security camera. We calmly explained that we had just ordered food and asked what he wanted us to look at on the camera, at which point he became very agitated and aggressive. The staff in the place we were staying had to intervene to get him to leave after we had explained what happened multiple times.

We went back the next day to complain and the manager had no interest in hearing what we had to say and was very rude.We were both pretty shaken after this and feel it was handled quite badly.

One of the most beautiful beaches we have seen in Sri Lanka.
The Beach house is a good location but the owner und the staff seem to be overworked in the main season. The owner Marti is more interested in managing NO work, leisure time and surfing than in organizing und caring for his customers. (Don't rely on his commitments). Maybe this depends on being fully booked until spring and they think, the work is done. Bad attitude for over 100.- €/night.
Their is a nice and cheap guesthouse very close called "Piumi House" - booking over AirBNB. 100 m to the beach.

Response from Martin M, Manager at Beach House Hiriketiya
Responded 6 Jun 2016
Hi travelburk The prices of our rooms are not as quoted. The rooms late January are $80usd p/night. You don't mention the food at the cafe nor the banquet style dinners and my staff are not perfect by any means but friendly they most certainly are. it sounds like you weren't staying with us. I must say I've never been accused of being unreliable regards my commitments. I can't even imagine what I committed to do for you? I would like to apologise for giving you the impression I don't care as I do care for my guests and customers a lot. Please come stay with us next time and I'm sure you will get a different impression Cheers Marty

Staying nearby, came for food. Very slow service, rude staff. Food was ok but overpriced. Waited for 45 minutes for food. Wouldn't recommend. Also was quite disturbed by staff members kicking and throwing sand at the dogs on the beach.
