My friends, dog and I arrived at Newtonmore. We were on a walking holiday and camping but as the evening was so wet we decided to find a hostel. When we arrived the owner was out but we were assured there was space and we would be welcome by the neighbours and a lady who usually worked there who we...

The hostel is nice enough inside but having spent a day in the mountains in blizzards and -15, it was not nice to come into a freezing cold hostel. The heating only came on after I arrived and I never really managed to get the heat up all night. Other than that it was a bed for the night and...

This is a really great deal, particularly in this area. The owners are friendly, the hostel is clean and spacious - granted, it wasn't exactly packed the night we were there. The rooms were cozy and not too hot as many places tend to be. My boyfriend and I both had a great sleep!

This bunkhouse was a great find. Location ideal as a central base for walking and climbing (conditions dictating). Bunkhouse compact but comfortable, the kitchen well-equipped and impeccably clean, rooms more than adequate and bathrooms very clean with great showers. Nice fast wifi. Drying room upstairs was warm with racks and hangers. Off road parking around the back. Laurie, the owner,...

This is a great hostel, with a friendly owner. They helped us out when road closures through snow drifts interrupted our other plans, and were able to give good weather advice. Local shops and good pubs just a short walk away.

We stayed here with teenagers and went skiing and hiking. There were hot showers, comfy bunks and a pretty well equipped kitchen. There are a couple minor jobs that need doing e.g the doors. There were plenty of hooks and a good drying room. A soap dish in the shower would be useful .We found the hostel friendly ,cosy and...

My wife and I booked a room to ourselves with our small.dog before Christmas 2014 for our trip to Newtonmore January 2015 . This booking was confirmed by Lauries by e mail. He subsequently rented the whole bunkhouse to large group meaning our previously booked room had gone to someone else. Not pleased I contacted him , he apologised and...

A wee group of us (7) stumbled upon this wee gem on Hogmanay. The owner, Laurie, was really welcoming and friendly, telling us all we needed to know about the towns annual celebrations. We had an ace time with Scottish music at the local, torch procession, fireworks, impromptu ceilidh shortbread and stags breath. Hostel was warm, had everything you needed...

Me and a friend booked in to stay here at the very last minute, New Year's eve to stay for five nights starting New Year's day. We were fitted in which was amazing. We spent our time winter mountaineering and found the hostel suited for this. A good drying room, kit space and lashings of hot water available all the...

I booked this budget hostel last minute. I found the basic room very comfortable after a few days of wild camping in the Cairngorm mountains. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a nice couch and a TV in the livingroom area. The owners were very friendly. There's a supermarket nearby, so you can buy any food your heart...
