The first villa we paid for was dark with a really poor seating area do we asked to move. We paid for an upgrade to a bigger villa which looked better. Unfortunately within a few hours it was obvious that it was damp, the heating didn’t work and the sofa was damp, smelly, and really needed to be thrown out. The bed in the double room was like sleeping on a wooden board so we moved into the room with 2 singles which was at least comfier. Luckily by now it is just the .2 of us in a5 person villa, as the double bed wasn’t comfortable enough got sleep and the sofa bed I think a dog would have turned it’s nose up. I took a list of maintenance problems to reception as without the heating on it really wasn’t habitable due to the damp. It was December that we stayed however being British and used to the cold we have never used the heat previously. Even in December we normally have the air conditioning on, but in here it felt like the damp was chilling you to the bone. The staff were lovely and they did fix the issues that could be fixed. The bath was peeling, the shower flooded the bathroom, the fridge wasn’t very cold, the patio door was broken, the worst thing was the awful awful smell from the sofa bed, even after they’d covered it when I complained. I was offered a 3rd villa but by this point we were sick of moving and I had no confidence this would be any better after already trying villa 52 and 63. The location is wonderful and I’ve stayed at the hotel many times. Unfortunately I made the Mistake of thinking staying at the villas would be a treat. The cost was far higher and what we stayed in was a rundown apartment at best not a villa. Would not recommend these to anyone. Save your money and stay somewhere else.…
Fantastic stay. Pedro was so obliging and he really listened to us and gave us the perfect accomodation for our needs as a large family group with children. Much appreciated. Breakfast was excellent with patient and friendly staff. Everything ran smoothly. Villas were spacious and confortable. Extras such as the coffee machine really helped. Cleaning staff were accomodating and proffesional. It was so enjoyable that we will definitely return. The 3 bed villa perfectly fit two families with kids. 3 bathrooms in the villa helped. The indoor pool was great during our winter stay as well as such close proximity to the beach and a 10min walk to town.
We stayed at one of their newly refurbished villa . The new villas are lovely but the rest of them and their pool are ran down. The hotel located next door is modern and lovely. During our stay unfortunately the weather wasn’t great and we had to ask for duvets as the nights were chilled ! We had a 2 bedrooms villa and only one single duvet was provided as first…. We had one bath but no plug hole … took 2 days to get one ….seamed like the hot water was shut around 11 pm…. We choose this resort because mainly of the so called heated pool Indoor as the weather wasnt guarantied…. The heated pool was cold, the sauna out of service and the steam room wasn’t switched on….. no games room or anything for teens so no place to meet others really…. There was no entertainment during the day or night, apart from a lovely man with his guitar every other night in the main hotel. The hotel buffet was way over priced. We only went once . The internet stopped working in our villa on Monday and we heard many different excuses from the villa desk and the hotel desk. It was fixed in the Thursday and we left on the Friday! No internet when the weather isn’t great , with 2 teens , isn’t great! No Apologies either. We were told nobody had internet even in the hotel but when we spoke to some guests they said it was working fine there …. The good point was the placement of this resort which was on the board walk by the sea. The shame also is that the new villas are behind an older building so no sea view or barely nothing. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel resort if you go with children. Will we go back? Simply No. …
We had a villa one min walk from the boardwalk, which was great, as very soothing to hear the waves. Breakfast at the main hotel was great, with various treats and coffee, but no fresh juice (but all is forgiven, as there were loads of fresh fruit). Substandard evening meal, truly not worth the money. Take a short trip to Portimão, where you will get a great dinner (a group of restaurants by the bridge) for half the price!! So, firstly, the wifi went off for four days (we stayed for 7). We were given a range of excuses, different every day, depending on whom we spoke to. Then the hot water went off, waiting until 11 pm for a shower (imagine the salty sea water). Anyway, it just wasn’t good enough. Would I stay here again? No! The place was advertised as having a heated pool & sauna. The sauna was off, and the heated pool was cold. Understanding that there is a range of hotels to stay in this area. Choose somewhere else. Apart from all the above, Portugal is a great place. Always enjoy (but not so much the accommodation). …
Stayed in a 2 bedroom villa with my dad and daughter. It seems we may have been in the refurbished villas and was relieved of this. The kitchen is kitted with a dishwasher which is not really needed but you don’t have an oven which made catering very limited. It was fairly clean but the lounge area chairs had a distinctive damp smell and I didn’t like sitting on them. We also had a few cockroaches :( The pool are and grounds are lovely, perfect pool for my 3 year old. Obviously it’s out of season and there was no entertainment on. We had lovely weather so used the beach but please bare in mind they don’t have sun Ed’s and you have to pay. The boardwalk in also lovely to walk along. Can’t comment too much on food as we were self catering but the snack we had at the pool bar was lovely. Overall fine stay but probably try somewhere else next time.…
The hotel grounds, location and hotel itself are lovely. Amazing breakfast and so much space. We had a one bedroom superior villa (apartment 65). Lots of space and generally clean. Could do with an update on bathroom and kitchen area. Mattress very hard and two dangerous broken lamps. But really let down by dirty bed bug ridden bed settee. Never had bites like it. Such a shame as wouldn't cost much to upgrade. Loved Alvor but wouldn't use this company again.
We had a wonderful stay in Pestana Dom Joao II Beach & Villas. Our villa (no.7) was recently refurbished and it was in wonderful condition. Very new and modern, spacious with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, all with air con. Party of 5 adults, 2 children. The kitchenette had a dishwasher, hob, microwave and good size fridge with small freezer and spacious living area. Lovely sea views from outside the villa with direct access to the board walk and beach. Cleaning service provided daily. Lovely to come back to a clean apartment, fresh towels etc. Pool / Beach towels also available daily. We used the facilities of the hotel mainly as there were kids in our family and made great use of the kids club, kids pool and playground, all situated right next to each other. We didn’t eat in the hotel, just drinks and ice creams from the pool bar so can’t comment. It is approx. 15 minute walk along the board walk into the town to lots of nice restaurants. The staff were extremely helpful and kind. One day our hot water was not working and they sent maintenance around to fix it immediately. It was also one of our family members birthdays during our stay and they left a cake with candle and happy birthday wishes in our villa which was a really nice touch! I would highly recommend and definitely would return.…
Not worth the money. Hotel rooms needs renovating. Beds uncomfortable. Shower head does not work. Toilet doesn't flush properly. Below average breakfasts. Overcrowded. Poor selection of drinks in the bar. Pool bar ridiculously expensive. Reception do not pick up the phone when called. Very good location tough.
We stayed as a family of 6 for 4 nights and had a wonderful stay. The Villas have clearly had renovations as ours was very modern. Very well equipped kitchen, 3 bedrooms, air con and a balcony with a sea view . We had use of all Hotel facilities including great pool areas and direct access to fantastic beach and a supermarket on site … perfect for a relaxing holiday in the sun
8 of us were on a golfing holiday. The previous trip in 2019 we stayed in the Hotel which was fine. This time we were put in 2 x 2 bedroom villas. Extremely poor compared to the hotel. In our villa (13) The kitchen was poor with a battered fridge freezer and a lack of plug sockets. The villa in general was in need of renovation. Tiles on the balcony were falling apart. One of the two showers was rubbish. 4 blokes who didn't spend any time in the villa just about put up with it. I would take my wife to the Hotel but she would have turned around as soon as i opened the door to this place. These Villas need totally renovating or knocking down!!
