our first time in Lourmarin, came upon this family run hotel by accident - how lucky were we. Adam on the front desk is a font of knowledge and the husband and wife team who both own and run everything are a joy. It is a mere hop into town and the lunchtime food cooked by the owners around the pool is simply perfection.
A very nice weekend in Provence, based in the Hotel Bastide in Lourmarin (definitely one of the most beautiful and fun villages in that part of France!!). The hotel is very well run, by friendly, helpful and competent staff. The location is great: everything In Lourmarin is within easy walking distance. The hotel is of the « boutique » variety, with a good-looking garden and pool (and a spa, which we did not sample..). Rooms are nice enough though possibly a little small. Lighting in the bathroom needs improving..! Breakfast is great! Thanks again, Adam, for all the good restaurant tips (and your help with train reservations!). We shall definitely return!
I would actually say that this is not really a 4*, below am listing the key aspects: Positives: The location The large and comfortable car parking The comfy bed The receptionist kindness The good quality breakfast (with no table service though) Negatives: Small room and especially tiny bathroom, I and my wife stayed in the so called “La Buddah” room The room TV remote control out of order
Our second visit to Lourmarin but our first to Hotel Bastide. We were attracted by the hotel web-site and its 4* rating. We now know the rating was given in 2014 and since then the hotel has closed its restaurant. There are positive aspects to the hotel. It offers secure parking - rare in Lourmarin. There are many local restaurants within walking distance. Adam, on Reception, is attentive and charming. There is a pool - but no poolside bar. However, there are negatives. We stayed in an Ambiance Room. The photos of the room on the website show a different bathroom! Ours had a pebbled floor (the website says this reflects local cobbles). Consequently, the floor never drained dry for the whole week we were there. The room smelled damp as a result. As with many modern hotels, the lighting in the room is ‘subdued’. That is, there is no overhead lighting in the bedroom or bathroom and it is impossible to see properly to shave etc. The hotel has no restaurant and no bar. There is a breakfast room where a self-service breakfast is available. The self-service includes making your own drinks! On the whole, a disappointing stay at a hotel that could offer much more. Instead, its services been stripped back and the Bastide now provides only the most basic.…
More like a 3 star hotel...the pool wasn't very clean, they give you one pool towel for the entire stay...there is no room service, part of the bastide is on a busy and noisy street. The decoration of the room was on the cheap side and not professionally done. Staff at reception was rude, unhelpful except for Cecile. The only positive thing is the location right accross the village, you just have to cross the busy road in order to get to the village.
