We registered for a deal from Scotrail where we got a ticket to anywhere in Scotland for just a fiver !! We decided to go to Mallaig. Booked online and paid a wee bit over the odds for a room in the attic of the West Highland Hotel. My mistake in booking and not looking, ( I've been given a... More

I arrived at the hotel after 8pm, unannounced and without reservation. The staff, displaying a great smile and a heartwarming welcome, immediately found me a great room at a very reasonable price, offered me information about the lovely village, were happy to answer my never-ending questions and made me feel extremely welcome. The room was spotlessly clean, very cosy and... More

Stayed one night room only - no meals. Very friendly welcome and pleased to be offered a family room for just the two of us. Great view across to Skye, Rhum and Eigg in glorious autumn sunshine. Disappointed though not to have wifi in the room - only in the comfortable lounge. I think many people see wifi as an... More

We stayed at the hotel for the inaugural gathering of 'A write Highland Hoolie'. We were really impressed with the warm welcome we got and the friendly smiley staff. The food was excellent. We were told they were in the process of upgrading the rooms but were quite happy with our room at the back of the hotel which gave... More

I was speaking to a group of Coastguards at the Hotel and was booked in overnight for evening meal and breakfast. The staff were very helpful when I arrived in mid afternoon and I was soon sorted out. They were pretty busy at the time but even offered me a cup of tea whilst I waited. The evening meal was... Our B&B was cancelled 2 days before we were to arrive in Mallaig, which was actually a blessing after we found the West Highland. The King suite was available and was worth every penny! From the front desk employee to the staff in the restaurant they were all top notch! The terrace off the king suite was spectacular with gorgeous... More

Booked 2 rooms in this hotel via booking.com. One double (£90) and the other triple (£120). Rate was room only. The rooms were the worst I've ever stayed in. Simply not fit for purpose at a fraction of the price. The twin was like a cramped student bedsit, damp stained the wall while the entire corridor stank of grease. The... More

We stayed at the West Highland Hotel over the weekend of the 21/23 October 2106. They were hosting a Literary Festival which proved to be great fun. Mallaig is in a beautiful part of the world and to see it dressed in it's superb autumnal colours was special. The hotel staff were friendly and attentive. the food very excellent, particularly... decoration and setting in hall, reception, bar, lounge downstairs etc is very nice, very Scottish and elegant. The problem is the rooms, where all finishing works are not well done, furniture is old, bathroom not what you expect for such an expensive room. We got a standard room so maybe if you pay more for a superior you will get... More

We could cope with the peeling wallpaper, the dripping tap and the tiny room but the barely dribbling shower was the icing on the cake. We paid £90 for one night in what could only be described as backpacker accommodation. Our room was on the top floor with no elevator so my mid-60s wife and I lugged our bags up... More
