7 of us came for a birthday celebration here on a Sunday and it was a great experience. Starters to mains were all tasty, the service was friendly and professional. The roasts are one of the best we’ve had in while, in fact that’s the reason i returned as i came last year for a Sunday roast and wanted my family to experience it this time. The roasts were well cooked and a huge plateful, I had the chicken and ham pie which was tasty and a great extra serving of cauliflower cheese. Highly recommended. Great location too.
Beautiful location, nice ambience but food was horrible. Overpriced, tasteless starter, and £17 for a very below average chicken burger. So many other pubs offering excellent food and a fair price. Will not be returning
Came here Good Friend, it was busy outside. The vegetarian option cost the same as the equivalent meat options I went for the brick lane chickpea curry which turned up with sourdough toast and dried rice. The taste was straight out of patak’s jar, the single asparagus stem was buried under the sauce. If your a vegetarian avoid or expect to pay through the nose.
A very pleasant place and loveky location. We had lunch here abd while overall was good, the food portions and speed of service coukd improve. The bream was too small bearing in mind the cost if more than £20.
Needed accommodation for 2 nights whilst visiting family. Actually do not want to give a good review because everyone will want to stay here and I would never be able to book a room! I cannot fault this place. Local poultry wake up about 5am, just saying.
Lovely cooked Sunday Roast Beef, friendly staff, great location, nice cocktails. Chocolate desert very yummy ... parking next door. Good value for money. It was our first visit but we will be back :) )
Booked a Sunday lunch for Father’s Day and we’re not disappointed. The COVID measures were good- we had a table for 5 in the outside covered area which had subtle but effective ceiling heaters, albeit the day was reasonably warm. Both the service and food were excellent - Sunday roasts as well as a full normal menu with all prices as per usual, i.e. no hype for the ‘special’ day as we have experienced at other venues. The venue is very nice and the pub is full of character. The only downside is the smallish car park - so lots of cars parking on the road; albeit there is a small overspill carpark just on the other side of the bridge ( only a couple of minutes walk back to the pub). Notwithstanding the car parking we would thoroughly recommend the experience !
Booked lunch last minute and were lucky enough to bag a table. Food was excellent, as usual, well presented and tasty. I've visited here, probably, six times this year and it's been consistently good. You won't be disappointed.
We had a fantastic lunch Food was beautiful cooked and was excellent Would highly recommend this pub and will Certainly return. Staff very friendly and efficient Would love to stay here too. Maybe next time
We had to leave a review of the Stag on the River because we were really impressed with the service and value of our stay! We arrived on a Friday evening but were running a bit late. The staff were brilliant and took a pre-order for our food as we were driving to the hotel and were potentially going to miss the kitchen closing. When we got our burgers we were really impressed and both thought it was one of, if not the best, burger we've ever had. The room was cosy and clean, the bed was really comfortable and we enjoyed a good night's rest. There were facemasks available in the room and hand sanitiser which was a nice touch in the current circumstances. Breakfasts were lovely and staff friendly throughout the day. We ate dinner again in the restaurant on our second night and were equally impressed. Dessert was excellent, with the chef and waitress going above and beyond to do something with the white chocolate pannacotta without figs (thank you!). Overall an excellent weekend, we felt cared for and safe throughout our stay, and we've recommended the Stag on the River to all our family.…
