We booked this Inn following reviews on this site. We got a warm welcome and were shown to our rooms above the pub. These were spacious and well equipped with a modern pod drinks machine and complimentary soaps and shampoo in the decent sized bathroom. A good beer in the bar was appreciated after our round of golf and journey.... More

We booked for a family wedding. The hotel is on the Market Square in Helmsley and the room we had had a view of the castle. Room good size and comfortable equipped with a great coffee machine. On the landing was a kettle a wide range of teas. Breakfast was good - cooked to order. You need to park in... More

We stayed overnight at The Royal Oak and found the room comfortable and clean. The meals were tasty and good value for money with the breakfast being especially tasty. Helmsley is picturesque and had a lovely evening stroll around the area. The next day visited Castle Howard which is an impressive house with probably the best grounds in England.

Booked last minute so didn't hold out much hope as most other places were fully booked. On arrival bar staff could not have been more helpful and courteous. Room was clean and airy. Hotel is perfectly located in the town square. Evening meal looked limited but was of very good quality and quantity. Coffee maker and bottles of water in... More

Having been coming to the pub for more years than I can remember it hasn't ever failed to disappoint. We have seen the staff change throughout the years but as always they are happy, polite and cheerful. There is always a friendly atmosphere in the pub and a willing to engage in conversation and banter making you feel most welcome.... More

Table for 10 all enjoyed well cooked food all at reasonable prices. Great place to hang out for a drink. Polite welcoming staff all up for a laugh. Sit inside or outside watching the world go by in the market square.

I arrived at the Royal Oak after a long drive and was quite tired. I was met by friendly staff who made my stay a relaxed one. The room I stayed in was clean and comfortable and I slept well. Despite it being a Friday night I wasn't disturbed by any noise from the bar. The breakfast was good. I... More
