Booked a 3 night stay here in January. The place is so bad I checked out after 1 night. Stained carpets and walls, and pretty sure I saw mould growing on at least one wall. The other issue is that for a hotel that is supposedly catering for the blind and visually impaired, the hotel is not being maintained, to...

I will start with the positive points, the staff were fantastic, the cooked breakfast was superb, and the gardens were well kept, unfortunately that's it. My partner and I saved up to have a coupe of days together in a bit of luxury, the hotel looked beautiful and what really sold it was the swimming pool. £80 per night b&b...

We are a group of 15 Visually Impaired and Sighted friends who have just come back from a fantastic long-weekend at the Cliffden . We took 7 dogs between us and the break was refreshing despite the varied weather, and we enjoyed the beautiful house and gardens. The Staff in reception, the bar and the restaurant were all very attentive...

Stayed for our first time last weekend & thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This is a good, professionally run hotel in a great location & with excellent facilities. There is parking available, beautiful gardens, & the town centre is a very short stroll away - via the gardens themselves if you so choose. Our double room was a good size, complete...

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave a review for the Cliffden Hotel. We are very lucky to have such an enviable location so close to the sea making the hotel very special. Thank you once again for your review and we hope to see you again soon.

It's a three star hotel, so the four stars rating I've given it are commensurate with its starting point. Don't expect a wow factor as you'll disappoint! I booked via Laterooms - there was no mention that this hotel was an "action for the blind" hotel. Whilst this wasn't an issue I would have liked to have made an informed...

Thank you for reviewing the Cliffden Hotel. The hotel is operated by Action for Blind People, but welcomes both visually impaired and sighted guests. We state online that we offer "accessibility features for the visually impaired are provided and both pet and assistance dogs are welcome". The hotel sits in an enviable position just above the sea, nestling in 7...

Thank you for taking the time to review the Cliffden Hotel. This was sent by email to the hotel and a response sent to you. We would never assume the level of assistance required by any visually impaired guest and as the sighted partner of a visually impaired person I am sure that you understand the reasoning behind this. If...

I stayed at the Cliffden Hotel from 4th December until 9th December with a group of nine visually impaired/blind adults, plus three guide dogs. What a wonderful experience. We visit twice a year as an ordinary hotel wouldn't cater for these disabilities. The staff are on hand to meet our needs at all times. There is an area for the...

I recently stayed at the Cliffden Hotel whilst visiting family in Teignmouth. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The hotel accommodates for those with a visional impairment. Staff were very polite and helped guests to their reserved tables, they brought their breakfast to their tables and even asked if they would like their tea poured for them. One lady...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Cliffden Hotel was built as a private House in 1815 for Sir John Strachan on 35 acres of grounds adjacent to the Dawlish Road. The original gardens were built in the Regency style gardens, with smooth lawns, shrubberies and trelliswork and wall-plants against the lower storey of the house. In 1988, the then current owner Dr Mules retired, he put Cliffden House up for sale with the understanding that it would be used for "greater good". The House was purchased by Guide Dogs for the blind and converted to a hotel which offer accommodation to both blind, sighted and partially sighted guests. The hotel now sits in 7 acres of landscaped gardens, and a short walk through these private grounds brings you to the glorious seafront at Teignmouth. ... more   less
