The owners were friendly and very informative, the lady of the house spoke excellent English, as well as German, and French.sharing maps for day drips and advising us where to visit (and where to avoid). Great breakfast, good WiFi, quiet and dark at night, easy parking, easy walk to several restaurants and the old town center, easy car access to area sights. Comfortable bed, spacious room. And the lady of the house did a load of laundry for us too! Much appreciated! · Not for those unable to carry luggage (and themselves) up stairs.
With the Ardeche weather being reliably warm & dry, this was an excellent place from where we could explore the mountains, dip in the rivers and enjoy long walks, as our hosts advised: Stefanie & Fabian made us very welcome. We had a large room in their charming old house, which had been recently upgraded & fitted out. Dinners were excellent, served in the garden, with local wines recommended to complement the foods. Can get hot in peak summer.
We stayed at Hotel Savel on the way back from our summer holidays and to discover the Ardeche region for a later, longer stay. Already really ooking forward to it by seeing pictures beforehand, it was an absolute sublime stay. Stefanie and Fabien put all their heart into the running of ther beautifully renovated hotel. The renfurbishment that they have made happen, is just beyond charming and everything is chosen with so much care and eye for detail. From to the artisanal breakfast with homemade jams and local products - to the Digestif on their lovely terrasse, which makes you feel like home - it is a place that we will certainly come back to! Merci beacoup encore une fois - on va revenir!
The hospitality of Stéphanie is what makes this hotel so special. She is enthusiastic in her recommendations for places to visit in the area or dinner recommendations (in December, the hotel restaurant was not open). She provided us with maps, directions and suggestions, and was eager to hear our impressions at the end of the day. We were there for three nights on a trip through the Ardèche, and stayed in an upstairs corner room with views over the garden and towards the former brewery. The views in the changing light were stunning. It was a treat to be able to follow the path behind the garden down to the shore of the Ardèche River. At the end of a day sightseeing or hiking, it was a treat to come back to the hospitality of Stéphanie at the Hotel Savel. Highly recommended!
This was our second visit to Hotel Savel since its make over and so we were hoping it was as good as we had remembered. We needn't have worried, it was excellent. I was also a little concerned that the room we we're allocated wasn't actually in the main house, but instead was one of the "independent" rooms. It was lovely: very roomy with plenty of storage for our clothes and despite only having a very small window was cool in the warm weather; this was mainly due to the newly installed and very quiet air conditioning unit.As our previous visit the food was of good quality and each night there was a new set menu as well as the à la carte choices. What makes this place special are those who run it. They take the time to be sociable and get to know what you like without being overly familiar. It is quality service without being pretentious. The are happy to advise you on things to do in the area and can also advise on where else is good to eat, should they unfortunately have a problem with their gas supply as on the last night of our visit. It's walkable to get into the centre of Ruoms and right next to the river beach.…
