Our second skiing trip to PSV staying at Les Gentianes, booked through MountVacation, so we knew what we would be getting. However, apartments and facilities looking very much more tired than in 2011. In particular the sauna needed attention as the supports for the seating were broken.

We booked a two-bed apartment (that in theory slept six) for four people. The double/twin room was so small we couldn't walk around the bed; the bunk room was too small for storage; and the only soft seating was the double sofa in the living room that made up into a double bed.

Good point was constant, plentiful and extremely hot water which meant we could each soak aching muscles in the bath every evening.

TIPS:
Take small amounts of cleaning materials with you and stop off in Briancon for shopping on your way to the resort.
Take mugs if you like a large cup of tea.
Book your check-out inspection on Thursday so you get a time that's convenient to you (we weren't told we had to book this and only knew because we'd been before).
If you ski above beginner level book/buy a Galaxie ski pass which gives you one day in other resorts (Serre Chevalier, Montgenevre, Pelvoux etc.) The latter was a great little, almost empty, resort that can be reached by local bus if you don't want to drive.
Imperative to carry snow chains - and preferably practice fitting them before you need them!

Stayed at Residence Les Gentianes for a ski week with family.

Good points.
Apartment fairly well equipped. Some equipment missing on list but no problem reporting this to reception the day after check in.
No noise at night. Everyone was very respectful of each other.
Good value
Skiing is great for people on their 2/3/4 weeks as lots of good blues and reds and short lift cues.
Honest Hotel ,got full deposit back on leaving.
Ski almost to the door. Have to walk down the car park
Small bakery and ski rental shops 2 minutes walk.
Very good pizzas in the restaurant just above this hotel. Book on arrival.
Ski lockers with key for each room

Bad points
Took over one and a half hours to get checked in despite only having six families in front of us in the cue.
Bad for beginners as not many flat areas to learn and need to do a red to get to the main lesson meeting point or take the bus.
Have to walk up on flight of stairs to get to the lift. Fun in ski boots.
No oven only microwave with grill feature
Dirty pillows, take your own.
Wi-Fi cost 6 euros a day and only works in reception area.
Limited car spaces and 40 euros for the week. Possible to park on the road.

Other points
Apartment a little grubby round the edges but you get what you pay for.
Food in mountain hunts expensive 6.50 euros for a bowl of chips.
Take a sledge for the children as lots of places to sledge.
A 15 minute walk to the main restaurant/supermarket area. There are busses but didn’t use them.
If taking the Grenoble – Les Deux Alpes route to get there which is the most direct from UK you have to go over a mountain range them back down to Briancon then up to Puy st Vincent. So not easy to get to in winter. Chain on chains off chains on.
Resort is mainly French. So our son was not spoken too much in English when booked into lessons so little tuition was had, Just follow the instructor all week.
Small pool but water not warm
Supermarket expensive as expected so take food etc. with you.
Dish washer in apartment so take some tablets
Lessons seemed to be 10-12 and then 14-16 so ski 9 and stop for an early lunch to get empty slopes

Our 2nd stay in Les Gentianes was as restful as the first one a couple of years ago, despite some parts of the building (entrance hall) shows aging signs. Our apartment was in a good shape, clean, comfortable, quiet, correctly equiped and with superb mountain views from windows an balcony. Excellent value for money. Location excellent for hiking. Late afternoon spent at the swimming pool (eventhough too small) and Sauna. Will be back.... with more hikes in "Les Ecrins".

The apartments are now privately owned. Most of them have been renovated and are fully equipped

All year concierge couple that takes care of everything

Great resort for families with two ski schools

The residence is at 1800m right by the slopes

Apartments, totally worn out and badly equipped. Location is good but all the rest is not worthy. Knives are not even close to sharp, no hangers at all, cabin for skies is so small it can not fit more than 4 pairs of skies and that is in apartment for 10! We only received one key?!

my family went to puy st. vicent to ski vacation for one week. we were in good company and fabulous weather conditions. ski slopes are very good (i loved the long green one; which said a little bit about my ski ability.
Small bakery 2 min on foot - great for morning bread (french).

Bed linen extra charged: 7€ per weak/person
TV extra charged
Parking place extra charged
Final cleaning extra charged 70€ (you can clean by yourself; optional)

Chek in/check out

OMG like an entrance in United States for non EU!!!! Took like ages to get or return the kees!! WHY! have no clue is it incompetent stuff or the fact that we all check out at the same time, which is NOT optional: stuff is not willing to arrange early check out for you for no reason (night before or earlier in the morning)????? CHAOS we could ski for couple more hours. SO WEIRD!!!

The room and the apartment are cool, and quite good, clean and wide. I should recommend just a thing, it would be better to provide the bed sheet and blankets for king size beds.

The swimmingpool its very small, and far from some apartments, the water should be warmer, especially in winter, and it would be better to have a bigger space to deposit all swimmingpool staff.

The wifi should be installed in all the residence in and not only in the common room - reception.

Great position to ski.

The staff it's kind and easygoing.

Had a group of 45 there in January 2016, apartments were very good- clean and well maintained. Indoor swimming pool definitely gives this residence a plus. We were all accommodated in one house so this was also benefitial for me as a tour leader. Also you can ski out of your appartemen directly on the slopes, when returning you need to walk a little bit, but nothing much, each room with a balcony

Many freeride possibilities, when you dont expect new hotel and you dont care about old furniture and equipment, is good. Ski area is direct in front of apartments, good cheap week deals incl. ski lifts. Pool. Lack of wifi (or expensive). Shops nearby.

The apartments are split over several blocks and depending on when you book, or with whom, will depend on which one you get. This time we booked through ski France and were allocated a room in block B. This had the advantage of being the one with the main reception and also the swimming pool. The Residence offers easy access onto the slopes, by walking a short distance along the road outside the apartment blocks, where you can get on the snow and make your way onto the main slopes. The swimming pool is handy to relax in after a day on the slope and if your room is in block B then you won't have to change blocks to get to it. The biggest downside is the steps into the building, the front door is built slightly uphill and is serviced by some steps and a slope. All the steps feeding into block B need attention as some are crumbling and could cause injury. The best option is to use the slope and avoid the main steps.

Can you get to the bars at 1600 easily at night, either walking or by taxi? Thanks Richard
Answer from Actisource
Paris, France
Bonjour, Merci pour votre question. Pour les plus petits, l'école de ski est à 300 m de la résidence. Par contre, pour les adultes, l'école de ski est à 1600. En espérant vous avoir aidé. Bien cordialement, L'équipe Actisource

"Remember to take a bath mat, as the showers are fitted with a standard shower curtain that never seems to fit properly. If you want tea remember a kettle, only a coffee peculator is supplied. If skiing / boarding pre book your lift pass direct with the lift company, it's cheaper and will save you time at the cashiers."

In a residence Les Gentianes and with the slovenska agencija that we traveled with there is NO 100% sure way you get what you whant. We tried to book 4 apartments in one (the same) house/residence...it turned out that 2 families were in one, 1 family was in one and 4. familily in third/diiferent house/residence. And no host in Les Gentianes neither slovenska agencija is willing to take responnsability for this mistake. We are not sure what to do to secure same house for whole group if we choose to book les gentianes next winter??? HELP!!"
