I had dinner last night at the outdoor restaurant of the Big Bamboo in Uvita - Wow! There were 3 in our group, and 4 at a different table , including two of the owners. They definitely knew where to eat! A small set menu with 2 choices of first course, 3 choices for entree, and a vegetarian option. Oh my! I had the most delicious creme of spinach soup I have ever had, and red snapper that I woke up thinking about. I could eat it every day! And so beautifully presented, we could have been in Paris, rather than in the jungle, with light, warm rain falling just beyond our tables. And of course we opted for desserts to die for! Who would have guessed we'd find this gem in the jungle. Kudos to Lucy, the unbelievable chef, and her sous chef Kayrol.
The most perfectly cooked Sea Bass I have enjoyed, ever ! Fresh, flavorful, with fresh vegetables and creative sauce. My best gourmet meal in 2 years. ! The desert was light and flavorful. The service, charming, efficient and enjoyable. Lucy is a a talented chef. Enjoy her food and her magnetic personality.
We really enjoyed our stay at Big Bamboo. Lucy is a great hostess and She made us feel welcome. The location was perfect for us to visit lots of beaches. Our room was nice and clean. The pool was clean and refreshing. We ate so good at Big Bamboo. Lucy is an excellent cook! I definitely recommend this place to visit.
We found ourselves finishing a wonderful Meal in Uvita after a decent afternoon and evening travelling from Jaco. Some locals remarked that we wouldn’t be able to find “right now” accommodations.... we tried two places that turned out full and it was late. We were directed to Big Bamboo. It was myself and two others.... I am experienced in the country and was of the mentality that “we will figure it out”. We arrived to meet Caro the “handy/security/everything” guy. We asked if we could get two rooms. He said “let me call Lucy”..... The phone answered on speaker and the moment I heard her voice I let out an audible sigh of relief. We were given keys after a quick pic of a passport; ZERO HASSLE. We were given two rooms and instructed that “breakfast is ready when you wake up, thank you.” I arose in the morning to the smell of Fried Eggs, and Plantains; AND a Smiling, loud, bubbly WONDERFUL Woman named Lucy. (Apparently the boss around this place). I could spew for years but I’ll keep it simple. Big Bamboo is a lovely, well equipped, accessible and reasonable place to stay, and you also get Lucy. If you are “passing through” or “solo/couple travelling” in this area of CR; I can tell you that Lucy and the Staff at Big Bamboo are a perfect solution to the problem of “where to stay”. Honestly? The place could be an absolute hole; the staff would make it worthy. But it’s not that. It’s clean, easy, fair priced AND AND AND??? Lucy!!! (AND) her wonderful staff and Lulu the Dog and Bago the bum cat. The real question is: “Do you deserve Lucy and Big Bamboo??” 11/10 across the board. Con Gusto es Mio Lucy mi Amour! I WHOLEHEARTEDLY, 110% RECOMMEND BIG BAMBOO UVITA TO ANYONE.…
Lovely host! Great comfortable space and reasonable price for the area. The food is fantastic and you are close to everything you could want. Lucy will answer any questions you have. Thanks! Phillip and see you again soon
