We stayed in the small bungaloo for two nights and enjoyed our stay! Jim is a true legend with many fun stories to tell. 15 min by car from Montezuma and just by the beach. Good wifi and strong fan in the room.

Room Tip: Small bungaloo is cheap but not the best kitchen, would recommend you to pick one of the bigger...

We had a cabina close to pool but people were respectful- it was not noisey. There is lots of lovely floral but not much fauna the 2 days we were here. We enjoyed the cabina's hammock and ate our meals at the table on the main floor. There were 4 dogs on the property and 2 of them joined us for meals (they were very well behaved) We attempted to kayak to Cabuya Island at high tide but we were not successful. You can walk over at low tide. One guest told us she enjoyed snorkeling on the opposite side The beach is pebbly and volcanic rock. Apparently you can experience nice sunrises here. We came well stocked with food so we didn't go to any restaurants (Habitat restaurant is very close-another guest said it was great) We didn't need to check Super David (produce) nor the bakery both are supposed to be good. Since this is fishing village we asked Jim to where to go. He referred us to a group of fishermen just down the beach. They had nice looking tuna, durango and snapper. We still had lots of fish from another area so we elected to go for the gigantic prawns...enough for 3 delicious meals. Cost $24 cdn total for 24 gigantic camerones! The kitchenette is enough to "make do". We were glad we travel with our kitchen utensils, spices, oil, vinegar, foil, dish clothes, towels etc. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the fridge and freezer. It also has a blender (we didn't use) and a traditional Costa Rican drip coffee maker that made very yummy coffee. The sleeping loft is up the stairs. There is a small balcony and a couple of chairs. The queen bed was OK and there are 3 single beds (and 1 dresser.) There isn't any A/C but we found the 2 ceiling fans and the breeze kept the room cool enough. The small bathroom is on the main level. I appreciated having a flashlight to move around at night. There is a washing machine on site (if you need one) and we were able to pull our car onto the property for safe parking. We met nice travellers here. We mentioned to Jim the TV (news programs) was loud on our 1st day and he respectfully changed to playing music (great selection of tunes).

I stayed at the Howler monkey hotel for a few days with my girlfriend, and I could not have been happier. The hotel is located under the canopy right in front of the Cabuya playa, and is the perfect place to relax and disconnect: howler monkeys, capucins, iguanas were part of the daily spectacle above our heads. Jim is a great host, and has a ton of interesting stories to keep you busy while enjoying the pool (which he cleans twice a day btw!). You should pay attention to his 4 dogs at first, but once you get to know them they are the most adorable animals, and you feel really secure in the hotel! Take Rocky for a walk on the beach, and his extreme happiness will make you instantly happy as well! We have taken the small cabin ("mini bungalow" on Booking), and we cannot complain given that it is almost half the price of the regular cabinas and we were on a budget. Note however that the small bungalow has no balcony, and has a less functional kitchen than the bigger ones. Thank you Jim for everything, we hope to come back some day!

I came here with my boyfriend to relax for a few days, and I couldn’t be more satisfied! The hotel is located just in front of the beach, and surrounded by jungle trees where you can observe all kinds of animals (capuccines, howler monkeys, iguanas). Also, you sleep in a dreamy confortable wooden cabana where you have your own bathroom and kitchen, and you have access to the swimming pool and to the common living area in the middle of the property. The owner, Jim, likes to share with you tons of funny stories and precious advice. Moreover, his 4 dogs are adorable!! Concerning the location, Cabuya honestly was perfect for us. As I said, you have the beach and the jungle just in front of the hotel, you can find restaurants and small supermarkets at less than 1km, also the Cabo Blanco natural reserve is just 2km away (and is amazing!! We have even seen a boa!). A bit further, you have the hippie town of Montezuma (7km), with its falls, and the surf beach of Santa Teresa (12km). In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this place and try to come back myself as soon as possible! Thanks Jim! Just a last remark: we have taken a normal cabina (compared to the mini cabina), which was a bit more expensive, but truly worth it. There’s clearly a difference of confort (space inside, light) between the two types, and we were happy to have chosen the bigger one.
