Christmas dinner Dec 25th 2016 I was invited out to the Bear 🐻 hotel. It was first experience of eating out for Christmas dinner and the first time of a meal in the Bear hotel also. I was extremely pleasantly surprised on all counts with my experience. It was booked for 2pm and 2pm we were seated. The young man...

Have been meaning to write this review for some time, following such wonderful experiences at the lovely Bear Hotel over the last few months. Have often attended the bear with work functions such as meetings and so forth, however never from a 'personal' point of view - wish I had done so long before as this fabulous hotel is now...

We paid £75 ahead for Christmas day lunch, second sitting. We visited in November for a Sunday lunch to see what the food would be like before we confirmed and paid. The Sunday lunch was very good, so we went ahead and booked. What a really big disappointment, the food was rushed out to the table very quickly, the starters...

I absolutely adored this hotel! Best hotel ever! I stayed in the apertment 54A & my other family members stayed in 54B. The Old Cider House & The Old Wine House. The layout was amazing. The kitchen and living room were the perfect size and everything worked well. Nice sized cozy apartment. I definitely want to re-visit again! Two downsides,...

I stayed for a couple of nights at the Bear Hotel, which were the nights of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. My mother lives in a small house just off the high street, so she needed space to cook Christmas Lunch. The rest of my family stayed in the Bear Hotel. We rented two cottages, which were lovely and clean,...

Dear Arobajase, Thank you for your kind endorsement of our comfortable, well presented and scrupulously clean bedrooms as well as our excellent team at The Bear. We were very disappointed that you didn’t get to sample our fine cuisine but rest assured, it was for not for want or lack of trying. We did indeed direct you to our sister...

I stay here regularly with work but would happily do so on a leisure visit. The rooms are all individual and very elegant. The food is fresh and well cooked and the breakfast is great. There is wifi throughout and a large car park. The location is also ideal for exploring Cowbridge.

Just returned from this hotel after an amazing evening wedding party, the setting of the hotel, the decor, the staff, the food, the service was absolutely spot on! What a beautiful place, even lovelier at Christmas, plenty of local shops to browse in and ever so pretty with the High Street Christmas Lights. I would highly recommend it and hope...

Yet again a lovely lunch during a shopping trip to cowbridge , as always a very good meal , good service & lovely atmosphere ( we liked the new decor) would recommend. During many visits we have tried most dishes on the menu & found them to be very tasty & good size portions.

Went here with my friend for lunch. As always the place was full and there was the added pressure of a wedding. However we were seated straight away as we had booked. There is limited choice but there would be something for everyone. I had a fisherman's pie it was 10.95 and came in a dish with salad-I think this...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Bear has origins as far back as the 12th Century, but it's best known as the inn where they changed the horses on the mail run from Cardiff to Swansea. This famous Coaching Inn is steeped in history. Nowadays, this privately owned 3 star hotel is famed for its fine home-cooked food, friendly atmosphere and really good ale. During the 18th Century, Napoleon's troops were held in the 'Bear Pit' en route to London after a failed invasion at Fishguard! The Bear rests in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan, surrounded by beautiful rural hills. The Brecon Beacons and the Welsh Valleys are close by, with breathtaking views. Some of the Valleys still have the mining houses visible as you drive through. The hotel is on the main high street of the historic town of Cowbridge. This chic market town boasts some fabulous boutique shops, lingering walks around the Roman wall and some of the most beautiful town-houses. ... more   less
