The hotel is well appointed and the staff at all levels were polite and helpful Our ground floor room situated in the outbuildings was very comfortable and fairly large , bit surprised to find it was a disabled room with a wet-room , however all was well. Second stay at this hotel. The staff are always very helpful and friendly. The rooms are up some steep stairs. The shape of the hotel means that each room is very different to the next. Mine was tastefully and individually decorated. In the morning I had a bit of a disaster and the hotel staff could not have been more...

Booked a table for my daughters birthday having previously been and enjoyed the food and atmosphere . We were a large group and on arrival informed immediately that two of the popular starters were not available which was disappointing as these were the choice of most and you would expect that all the menu would be available on a Saturday...

Have visited twice now, on both occasions for an evening drink only. Very good staff who are very prompt with their service. A very friendly atmosphere and a good place for a quiet drink with someone special.

Have been meaning to write this review for some time, following such wonderful experiences at the lovely Bear Hotel over the last few months. Have often attended the bear with work functions such as meetings and so forth, however never from a 'personal' point of view - wish I had done so long before as this fabulous hotel is now...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Bear has origins as far back as the 12th Century, but it's best known as the inn where they changed the horses on the mail run from Cardiff to Swansea. This famous Coaching Inn is steeped in history. Nowadays, this privately owned 3 star hotel is famed for its fine home-cooked food, friendly atmosphere and really good ale. During the 18th Century, Napoleon's troops were held in the 'Bear Pit' en route to London after a failed invasion at Fishguard! The Bear rests in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan, surrounded by beautiful rural hills. The Brecon Beacons and the Welsh Valleys are close by, with breathtaking views. Some of the Valleys still have the mining houses visible as you drive through. The hotel is on the main high street of the historic town of Cowbridge. This chic market town boasts some fabulous boutique shops, lingering walks around the Roman wall and some of the most beautiful town-houses. ... more   less
