Second time we have stayed here. Warm welcome from friendly staff. Food excellent and good value for money. Just beware prices on internet. Believe we overpaid for our standard double. Would call hotel for best price in future.

Fabulous Sunday lunch today, has got to be the best around. The service was excellent along with the food. We chose the beef which was tender and plenty of it, the veg was all fresh and again plenty of it along with rich tasty gravy and a lovely Yorkshire pudding. Well done to you all.

Popped in for lunch on a sunny sunday. Sat in the informal area on the left from the front entrance, glad there was lots of cushions on the bench seats as it made it quite comfy. Great place to sit and chat. We both had roast beef lunch which was delicious. The beef was cooked so it was tender and...

The staff deserve a mention. Especially the night porter who was extremely kind and polite when my little one wouldn't sleep. I was disappointed as The rooms are dated and expensive for what they are but they are clean and the location of the hotel is good.

We had the pleasure of having our wedding reception at the Bear hotel in December. The staff could not do enough for us from start to finish and the whole day was amazing. All of our guests commented on the quality of the food and the hotel was a perfect backdrop for our Christmas wedding. We wouldn't have changed a...

We stayed for a quiet short break for our anniversary and had a lovely time. The room was well decorated with a four poster bed, with fluffy dressing gowns, in the main hotel overlooking the high street. It was a good sized room, well maintained with very clean basic bathroom with bath and shower. There was no problem with noise...

Place was lovely but the food was awful, chicken breast thrown into a plate and dry, stuffing ball was rock solid, no boiled potatoes or carrots only broccoli (not enough to go around our table of 8) Mange tout and green beans. When we asked for more broccoli we were told they had run out. Had to go to co-op...

We had our wedding at The Bear at the end of March and had a fantastic experience! The event co-ordinators Rachel , Aimee and Isobelle were brilliant and made sure everything went smoothly on the day- both the wedding ceremony room and the wedding breakfast room were beautifully decorated, exactly as we imagined! The service on the day was second...

Stayed at the Bear for a friends wedding. Both myself and my partner had a fabulous stay and everyone I have spoken to enjoyed the venue. The team are warm and welcoming. The only downside was the scratch to my car from the car par which the hotel are investigating via the cctv footage.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Bear has origins as far back as the 12th Century, but it's best known as the inn where they changed the horses on the mail run from Cardiff to Swansea. This famous Coaching Inn is steeped in history. Nowadays, this privately owned 3 star hotel is famed for its fine home-cooked food, friendly atmosphere and really good ale. During the 18th Century, Napoleon's troops were held in the 'Bear Pit' en route to London after a failed invasion at Fishguard! The Bear rests in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan, surrounded by beautiful rural hills. The Brecon Beacons and the Welsh Valleys are close by, with breathtaking views. Some of the Valleys still have the mining houses visible as you drive through. The hotel is on the main high street of the historic town of Cowbridge. This chic market town boasts some fabulous boutique shops, lingering walks around the Roman wall and some of the most beautiful town-houses. ... more   less
