This is a very peaceful place ideally situated for the ferry port. The whole experience was very good and everything immaculate. Had a gorgeous Scottish breakfast after a very good nights sleep with fantastic views and I have to say run by two of the nicest people I have met in a long time. Fiona and Alan are so welcoming...

Spent a night here last week and will definitely do so again . Lovely welcome from Alan and Fiona and much appreciated relaxing hour spent enjoying their hospitality in the bar after a long day . Comfortable bed , room had everything we needed including a sea view and we both slept like the proverbial logs . Powerful hot shower...

We arrived Saturday, October 16, 2016 via cab after dropping our rental car for one night stay. We arrived much earlier than the 4:00 check-in and were received with a warm welcome by Allan, Fiona and their son. Our room (sea view) was quickly and efficiently prepared. This is a building that is over 100 years old, so the rooms...

A tr uthful review is difficult as we found the owners warm & friendly, However this does not make up for the missing ingredients for a Successful B.B operation. 1: comfortable bed ( not great grandmas ) 2: crisp white sheets. 3: quite room ( not over the top of very noisy bar that open till midnight. 4: clean bathroom...

This supposedly "truthful" review is for the same room that last reviewer, Katrina, submitted review for less than two weeks ago, and also James, who reviewed it on 21st September. It is difficult to believe that this review is for the same property, never mind the same room. However, we obviously cannot please all guests all the time. The bizarre...

We booked our ferry trip for a Sunday without realising at the time that the car hire desk at the ferry terminal was closed on Sundays. So we then booked a night at the Merchant House to stay in Cairnryan and collect pre-booked car on Monday morning. We are so glad this happened! This ended up being seriously one of...

A simple travelers gem. A post Brexit tour (Road Trip) of the UK by a couple of 40 somethings from South London, resulted in a one night stay at The Merchants House, prior to a morning sailing to Belfast. The Port is about a minutes drive away. Portpatrick is about a 15 minute drive and has a number of decent...

A beautiful 1701 building and of course there floor creaks in one or two places (you would too at 300 years). The rooms are comfortable and well set up. There is a nice sitting/bar room with beer on tap and most spirit mixes available. The dining room is separate and tables are elegantly laid. We had fish and chips and...

There are three practical reasons for choosing the Merchant's House. 1. It is very convenient for the Cairnryan ferries .2. It is very reasonably priced .3. It has a licensed restaurant. However staying there brings much more. First and foremost are the delightful owners who will guarantee a warm welcome (and a lot of laughs! Alan has missed a vocation...
