I booked this B&B for a family stay. As I had made the booking about 6 months in advance I was told that I couldn't book one night I had to book both the Friday and Saturday night. Having done this I was disappointed to find out that everyone else who stayed there had been able to book just one...

We are upset by your damning review. The only weekend we insist on a two-night minimum stay are the firework display nights and Bank Holidays. Going by the 2012 dates, 28th Sept 2013 would have been a night with a firework display, so, when you booked, we explained this to you. When the dates were announced, we contacted everyone who...

On arrival I introduced myself with an outstretched hand, and the owner reached across me to my husband, shook his hand and said 'Hi you must be X' !! When I spoke the answers...

This place represents everything that is great about english hospitality - warm hosts, spotless rooms, a hearty home made breakfast and overall great value. A lovely place, in a lovely spot run by...

It was great to return to this lovely guest house to see the Illuminations and Fire work display. Barry and Lindy are a welcoming, friendly, proffesional couple (as mentioned in other reviews) and we have had some great days out on their advice. They have even provided train and bus time tables. Should I write this review?...Well, I don't want...

We stayed here for a Saturday at the end of September and feel lucky to have found this lovely Guest House. The owners made us and our mother and auntie most welcome and offered helpful advice about the local area. The rooms were clean, comfortable and the breakfast delicious with home made preserves and lovely bread. We would recommend this...

Lovely comfortable, clean and friendly place to stay. We have stayed in some nice places in our time but this truly is the best! Nothing is ever too much trouble for Barry and Lindy. Breakfast here is excellent! We come here year after year now. The Ashdale is a real home from home!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Our house was built in 1847, is early Victorian, built in the Georgian style in the centre of the village of Matlock Bath which was developed as a spa. There are still some natural thermal springs and a petrifying well. There are four spacious en-suite rooms, three of which are family rooms. A cot is available. All rooms have access to wireless broadband, TV kettle etc. The house is situated immediately opposite the Victorian Jubilee bridge, which is a footbridge over the River Derwent. This bridge gives access to walks, an informal riverside park with childrens play area and attractive fountains and pools. There are walks up by the river and up the wooded hillside to extensive all-round views. Within walking distance are Gulliver's Kingdom (Childrens theme park), Cable Cars to Heights of Abraham, (where you can visit to old lead mines), the Museum and Aquarium with the petrifying well, the Mining Museum, and an assortment of restaurants and pubs with regular live music. Masson Mills (shopping village and museum in Arkwright's historic mill) is 10 minutes walk and there are many small, interesting shops both in Matlock Bath, and within nearby Matlock & Cromford. ... more   less
