Our stay at The Hen Harrier cabin at The Getaway for my husband's birthday was beyond expectations. Recently renovated, the cabin wowed us from the moment we opened the door - the stunning double bed with gold accents and elegant black curtain divider captured our hearts. The living space, including a king-size sofa bed and a TV equipped with free channels and Netflix capability via hotspot, was perfect for our family's needs.
The kitchenette was a delightful addition, making our first night's stay especially intimate. When our children, aged 8 and 13, joined us the following night, the cabin still felt spacious and accommodating, even amidst a fierce storm outside. Impressively, the cabin's soundproofing shielded us from the storm's fury, ensuring a peaceful and serene environment indoors.
Opting for a food delivery from a local restaurant directly to our cabin added a touch of convenience and luxury to our stay. Hilary, our host, was exceptionally attentive, ensuring our comfort and satisfaction throughout our stay. Our children enjoyed exploring the site, meeting the friendly goats, Billybob and Peanut, and spending time at The Nook playing board games.
The redesigned cabin offers a slice of luxury that greatly enhanced our relaxing getaway. We're already planning our return to this exquisite retreat. A heartfelt thank you to Hilary for making our stay perfect. Rating: 10/10 for an unforgettable experience!"

This eco campsite has been really well planned for maximum enjoyment of its users. It’s such an interesting site, with vantage points for best views, a secret garden by a stream and a really quaint old. cowshed which has been made into the “Nook” for relaxing and light kitchen use in inclement weather. Hilary’s warm welcome and wide knowledge of the area really helps to give a personal touch to this campsite which is a credit to her hard work and creativity.

Lovely rural campsite with lots of little extras. Pitches are far enough apart and all have rural views. The extras include picnic tables, a fire pit, some friendly goats and The Nook which is a converted outbuilding and has lots of facilities such as washing up, comfy seating, tables and chairs and information. It is very welcoming. The owner is also very welcoming and helpful. There are three toilets, two of which have showers in them so potentially there maybe queues for the loo, although we didn’t experience this. The showers are fab, hot and powerful, though in a wooden shed and I guess some folk may prefer tiles! The facilities for campervans are great and well thought out. The Cruachan walking trail is only a 1k walk away. In general a pleasant ambience and a lovely stop.

We stayed in the hen harrier cabin and couldn’t ask for more. From the cleanliness and facilities we were very pleased. Timing of our stay was during storm Kathleen so weren’t able to summit the Comeragh mountain or explore the surrounding area. We visited solasnamara spa in ring(amazing seaweed bath) where we received a 10% discount on being a guest at the getaway I cannot recommend the getaway enough and must say Hilary is a very warm genuine host.

A really excellent 2 night stay - Hilary made us very welcome and the facilities here are brilliant compared to so many places we have stayed. The showers are brilliant with lovely hot water - and the Nook provides a great space for relaxing especially if the weather isn’t great! We had a lovely walk up onto the hills behind the campsite and a good pint at the local pub. What more could you ask for! Would love to return soon.

If you're looking for a place to "getaway" from everything this is it. Surrounded by nature you can't but relax.
Owner is super friendly with a great focus on sustainability that has to be admired, she spent loads of time with us giving us tour of the site and all the area has to offer.
Was 10 mins drive to the Greenway where we biked in the morning then swam in the afternoon at the nearby Clonea Beach. Coffee at the coach house at Kilmacthomas is 3fe, great coffee!
Nice food nearby at Brigies with big portions and an easy 5 min drive away. Local roads are quiet and people don't travel fast on them so was nice wandering the roads picking blackberries.
Site is really nice, "Nook" is a cool old trip down with memory lane with a old farm house converted into a place to chill or wash up dishes. Site is spotless and youngest fell in love with the resident horse on site who lives in Goat Island, funny story behind that one that the owner will tell you.
Looking forward to the next trip!

We stayed here on Sunday night…. Usually we’re wild campers but we’d been on the road a few days and needed to freshen up and sort the vans out a little.
Now, most campsites offer somewhere to park, to fill up your water, to ablute, to shower, to dump your rubbish, and have EHU, so to compare like for like, The Getaway is just another campsite, right? You’d be wrong.
What I’ve discovered about campsites, and the people in it, is that every campsite has an ambience, a ”feeling”, and more often than not this is down to how it’s run and by who.
Well, I made a friend in Hillary, the owner, and I don’t say that lightly because I don’t really take to humans much. She’s astute, kind, deep, and in tune with what’s imortant, she’s empathetic, smart and just downright lovely.
And when she told me how she ended up doing what she’s doing (it’s her story to tell or not), you can add brave and strong to that list. She’s created a magical little haven, placed her hopes and dreams and vision into it, and designed it all with love.
To be as open as Hillary means you are expending a lot of your energy to other people, and she does this because she truly cares that you have a lovely time on her extended home.
Every campsite starts off as a field. The Getaway has a lovely feel to it and I can imagine likeminded folk sitting around a huge open fire in summer sharing stories, or curling up in The Nook with a good book or some music.
Everything you need is right there, and if it was something she did not have, I’m pretty sure she’d get it sorted for you.
Hillary, if you’re reading this, thank you for showing me there’s still good people in this world, and I wish you every success for a packed out season - you absolutely deserve it.

From the first phone contact we knew this camp would be good. Out of the way above Dungarvan (we walked into town, 1.5hrs walk via mainly quiet roads). Plenty of taxis available. Spotlessly clean, very reassuring explanatory signs around the site, so relaxing, just practical and joyous. Hopefully will be back. Diolch Hilary O’Kent, ni di cael amser hyfryd. Showers were powerful, hot and plentiful - but we didn't overdo it!
Easy hook up, level hardstandings, waste disposal all sorted.
The nook (on-site kitchen/ rest easy area) was a great find. I was missing toast in the campervan, then I found the Nook and toast and tea and jam - marvellous last breakfast
Nice to hear an accent from not too far away from home.
Next time we'd love to check out the glamping pods.

We were delighted when we pulled up outside The Getaway camper van site. Blissfully peaceful, very clean and well thought-out in a superb location amid green hills. Owner Hilary has realised a beautiful vision that is still being developed further. Everything is done in the greenest way possible and the whole place is so welcoming, it's like a big hug.
