Just back from a wonderful couple of days in Kilcannon House. Superb hospitality. Gertie's meals are absolutely delicious and Joe is always supporting her on the background. No request is too much trouble. Thank you, Gertie and Joe. We’ll be back!
It would be no exaggeration to say Gertie is an artist whose chosen palette is food. What a wonderful cook. The best! Great hosts. They both deserve all the success A touch of modest class in shallow world
We had a wonderful stay with Gertie and Pat. The bedroom and bed were extremely comfortable and the breakfast was exceptional – a great choice including some options not too often seen and everything cooked to perfection. Gertie and Pat are terrific hosts and really know how to make people feel welcome. This is a destination in itself, not just somewhere to stay in the area.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Gertie & Pat. It couldn’t have been any nicer! Absolutely perfect. Fabulous hosts, couldn’t do enough for us. Great folk! Stayed in a lovely room. The breakfast was one of the best, loved the porridge!!
My wife and I were visiting our daughter in Ring and decided to stay in Kilcannon House overnight. Lucky us! When I called Gertie and asked could she make up a bed for my daughter, the answer was "No problem". When I asked could we bring our dog, we received the same answer. When we arrived on a cold winter evening, the bedroom was warm. Gertie had put on the electric blanket in the bed and there was a wood-burning stove in a separate room for us to relax in front of. Our daughter was asked if she wanted hot chocolate. There was nothing we wanted for. We relaxed in front of the fire, chatted with Pat and Gertie and read our books. Pat and Gertie are just salt of the earth people. Pat was full of interesting stories and listened to our daughter playing the tin whistlem (God help him!) and gave her advice as he is a musician as well as a brilliant host. Gertie informed us that we could come down for breakfast whenever suited. The breakfast was the best breakfast I've had anywhere in Ireland whether in a hotel or B and B. Three courses. Every fruit under the sun, porridge with brown sugar, cream and whiskey poured over it followed by our choice of poached eggs from the family hens and crispy bacon. They then informed us we could leave at our leisure as they had no guests arriving that morning. We loved staying at Kilcannon House Bed and Breakfast. What a lovely couple! We wish them many more years of success. Thank you Chris, Lisa, Charlotte and Magic…
Just returned to Dublin after having an active and restful glorious treat in the gorgeous countryside and town of Dungarvan. Was well cared for by Pat and Gertie who had the fire lit everynight and the beds and rooms warmed for the cold wintery nights. Breakfast was to die for. Absolutely unique. Course after course of gorgeous home cooked delights. Dinners in Dungarvan were top quality too. Well worth treating yourself to this lovely spot as a getaway.
Absolutely beautiful and sparkling clean cottage with plenty of personal touches. Short drive into Dungarvan with loads of info on what to do and where to go. Gertie and Pat were amazing hosts and such genuine people. I would not hesitate in recommending here to anyone. Perfect place for a relaxing and refreshing retreat. The apple tart waiting on arrival was so delicious and Gertie's famous breakfast did not disappoint. I would return for that alone! They were also very welcoming to our little dog who also loved her stay. We are already looking forward to staying again and hopefully booking in with Gertie for some cooking lessons!
I don't have anything new to share really that hasn't already been said-excellent food, lovely bedroom-I think it is just useful to see a recent review. The thing that struck us the most is how interesting Gertie and Pat are, and genuinely friendly. Sadly we were only there one night, but they are the sort of people you would like to spend a few hours chatting to. Highly recommended and we hope to return.
We spent our first night at Kilcannon House with Gertie and Pat. Lovely hosts! Most welcoming and accommodating. Pat had suggestions for sightseeing and dining in town which were most appreciated. The rooms are spacious, the beds most comfortable and the area is quiet. We arrived a bit early from Dublin after a red eye flight and were able to take an hour nap. So kind of Gertie and Pat. Breakfast was spectacular. Gertie started out our Irish vacation with an unforgettable spread. The highlight was the porridge with brown sugar, Irish whiskey and whipped cream. What an unforgettable taste sensation! But beyond the food, Gertie and Pat are both wonderful hosts, very knowledgeable and lovely to chat with. Wish we could have stayed longer.
I cannot say enough about how good this place is , we received a warm welcome form Gerri and Pat , their home is a charming old farmhouse with lots of character . Spotless throughout and with buckets of charm . Breakfast is without doubt the best I have ever had , Gerti knows a thing or two about cooking and it shines through in the 4 course breakfast . Will be back for sure.
