As my wife and I cannot travel far due to the pandemic restrictions, we thought to take a short 'Michelin rosette' tour of the Lot and Dordogne. This hotel was charming. The staff were very helpful and attentive. They even checked our onward bookings. Full marks. We were given an upgrade to a well furnished apartment. I guess that because of the current pandemic they wish to showcase their offerings. We had dinner in the main restaurant, and accompanied the meal with their choice of wines. Normally I prefer to choose my own - but I found the choice excellent. Dinner was very good, and certainly in line with what I would expect at a Michelin 1 rosette table. However, with the exception of one young man, the service was indifferent. The waiter twice leaned across my wife to serve, in spite of there being enough room to go behind. Twice my plate was served before hers. One course arrived for us both while she was still eating the previous one - and left to the side. When I protested, the waiter blamed this arrival on the chef. The course was actually a cold dish.. However - apart from these issues, I will go back, and will certainly take dinner there again.. The 'Service' rating below should really by 'Excellent' for the Hotel staff, and 'Indifferent' for the restaurant.…
We spent three nights here during our trip south and loved everything about the hotel. I have to admit that we discovered the hotel from the Martin Walker Inspector Bruno books; finding that the hotel was in fact a real place meant it had, for us, to be the only place to say in the Dordogne. From our lovely warm welcome by front of house staff, to the sublime gastronomic dinner we had on our second night, everything was special. We think the dinner was possibly one of the best we have experienced; the food was sublime and the candle lit atmosphere on the terrace just lovely. My wife does not eat any sort of meat but this was not an issue for this hotel (unlike others we have experienced in France!). We also ate two nights in the hotel bistro in the village; a very reasonably priced restaurant, very relaxed with again excellent food. The hotel is beautifully situated, very atmospheric and we would love to return for a winter stay and enjoy the log fires and the very cosy leather arm chaired bar for an aperitif before dinner. What a restful, lovely experience - makes 2 weeks self isolation back in the UK all worthwhile!…
This was our first visit to Le Vieux Logis. We have regularly stayed in 4 star hotels in Perigord but wanted to try something new. We have found our new favorite destination! The hotel is lovely and comfortable, not fussy. The furnishings are quietly elegant, not gold and gaudy. The staff could not be more welcoming and accommodating. From the moment we stepped into reception, we felt that we were valued guests. The manager, Estelle, was delightful as were her colleagues. Each night, someone from reception escorted us to our table on the terrace. It is small touches such as these that make a place special. What can I say about the restaurant—superb! Some of the best meals we have had and we consider ourselves knowledgeable. The deconstructed vichyssoise was delightful (I could have happily eaten a whole tureen) and the pan-fried foie gras with a corn sorbet was creamy but light. We also had the good fortune to have sweetbreads one night and they were outstanding. The maître d’ treated us like we’d been coming there forever. We had seen some beautiful dessert soufflés on the preceding evening and although we were told they weren’t on that night’s menu, they magically appeared for our dessert course, thanks to the maître d’. The wait staff were attentive and gracious: a major thank you to David and Jordy. Will we come back? Most definitely. I am already planning a return visit.…
We stayed 3 nights in a wonderfully cozy room, the service could not have been better. Absolutely outstanding breakfast with homemade ingredients and the nicest staff you can imagine. Thank you all, we come back. Probably the nicest and best Hotel in the Dordogne.
My wife and I spent 4 nights at Le Vieux Logis. Our guest room was lovely, albeit small. The attitude and support of all the staff (particularly Estelle Lepers and the front desk personnel) in addition to the incredible dinners, were what made this a place where we hope to return. This is a great place to stay to explore the Dordogne region.
