Let me start by saying that I have been to over 30 countries in the past three years- I'm comfortable with anything from budget accommodations to high-end lodging. I have a small service dog that accompanies me everywhere. I contacted the hotel immediately after booking to let them know and said I would happily send over her paperwork. They assured me there would be no issue. We arrive in Santa Teresa, planning to stay at Escencia for two weeks and they kicked us out after one night, claiming a "no pet" policy even though they had agreed. Turns out, they are simply greedy and were attempting to charge us for 2 weeks of lodging that we did not use. They have agreed after weeks of hassle to refund only a few nights and charge us for 10 nights when we were there less than 24 hours. They knew that they would be able to book the vacancy immediately and thus make double money. Locals in the area are aware of their penchant for kicking people out for no reason and hiding behind a no-cancellation policy. Book at your own (high) risk. -As an aside, the rooms are also quite mildew-filled and the appliances are completely rusted over, and the hotel manager is incredibly rude. There are many beautiful places to stay in Santa Teresa- anywhere from $50 a night to hundreds. This was terrible by every account possible.

Santa Teresa is a great place to visit and have a great time. Esencia’s Villas are quite pleasurable. Nicely furnished, very good air conditioning, surprisingly well furbished little kitchenette that came in real handy for picnic preparation and such. Also location is great, a little outside of the center of town, a big plus. Also parking on premises very handy.

We stayed midweek for three nights in December in the building at the back of the property ('pool view' units). Check in was friendly and efficient. We found the room comfortable and well-equipped ... air conditioning, safe, fridge, coffee maker worked fine. Good quality clean mattress, bedding and towels. Clothes closet, shelving and wall hooks made it easy to stay organized. Plenty of hot water and pressure. Strong, reliable wireless reception in the room. Nice patio with quality furnishings. The pool area was attractive (as were the entire grounds in fact), with lounge chairs that were actually comfortably designed and padded. A continental breakfast was delivered to our patio every morning. Just juice, toast and coffee, but thanks to the fridge it was easy to supplement with yogurt and fruit from the nearby supermarket. Rooms were thoroughly cleaned daily. No sign of bugs or other nasties. Parking area and grounds were well-lit and had 24 hour security. In short, all good, in fact quite a bargain. Some of the reviews here indicate perhaps some problems in the past, but clearly the current management and staff know their business, respect their clientele, and work with care and diligence to provide a good experience. A couple of things to be aware of though. Accessibility to the pool view units could be a problem for some due to the slope and stairs required to negotiate. Street noise was not an issue where we were, but may well be more noticable at the cottages nearer the front of the property. Looking forward to staying here again on our next visit to Santa Teresa!

Our villa was clean, quiet, comfortable and functional. Nice surroundings, outdoor showers to rinse off the sand, nice pool and Luis the manager was super helpful and friendly. This place is like an Oasis and we will come back!

I loved the rooms and the pool was nice! We stayed 3 nights and loved the hotel. There’s no tv! Which is a good fact because you can enjoy the sound of nature and listen to the monkeys up in the threes.
