We stayed 10 days at Calocita and had a great time. We even rebooked our last 3 nights that we had planned at staying at another hostel, just because we really felt home and happy at Calocita. Big and clean rooms. Really good bathrooms. Common kitchen with everything you need - cleaned every day. The owner is really nice and...

Calocita is the nicest place we have stayed at in 7 months of travel, that is not a hotel. Honestly, it is super clean, really well built, and best of all its just 50 meters off the main road so you are in the middle of town, but it's quiet. The supermarket and surf shops are right next door, and...

Cabinas Calocita is one of the most amazing places I've stayed traveling Central America. The rooms are big and really clean, the mattresses comfy and the private bathrooms have warm water. The shared kitchen is a place you can easily hang around with people. The rental surfboards are one of the best rental boards that I ever had. You can...

Great place to stay and very well priced for a budget traveler! It's tucked away from the main road, flanked with hammocks, provides a well-stocked kitchen and clean rooms. I was very impressed with the design and layout of the building. I hadn't seen such solid construction in any of the towns I passed through. The owner, Chris, looks after...

My wife and I stayed there for a night this Jan. Would have stayed longer if we didnt already have plans to move one. I am a tradesman and was very impressed with the design and construction of this place. Most everything is concrete and tile with a nice balance of wood. No AC but the two fans worked well...

The place is great to stay, away from the road, relaxed environment, rooms are comfy and cozy, having what you really need and very clean. Host is very kind and he worries for you to be good. This is a place to come back. Recommended for all family, it has a good kitchen. If you are a surfer this also...

We walked down the main rode in search for a nice but not costly hostel to stay in. Chris was very friendly and offered us a private room with bathroom for cheaper than what the sign initially said. Room was very clean with new mattresses too. Hot water! Shared kitchen on premises and all in all its a very nice...

Cabinas Calocita is great for travelers looking for a simple, clean and well kept accommodation. My daughter and I stayed there for just a week and we explored the local sufing spots (we had a car). Our room was cleaned regularly and the bathroom was immaculate. There is no A/C, but fans are provided and the WIFI works. It is...

We came here for 2 days on a recommendation from another traveller, and we would definitely recommend. Catherine met us and gave us some really great tips. We aren't surfers, and she gave us so many alternative activities including sunset yoga which was a trip highlight for us. The rooms are a really good size, the bathrooms were lovely and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Cabinas Calocita offers rooms with private bath and hot water. There are 5 double rooms, one triple room and one single room. We are a small quiet hotel which stands for quality even for the budget traveller. Modern, clean and comfortable beds are waiting for you here at Cabinas Calocita.Part of Cabinas Calocita is a nice common area and a well equipped shared kitchen. Precisely the shared kitchen is typical in Costa Rica for small hotels and the people love to be able to cook their own meals or just leave drinks in the fridge. The location couldn’t be better. Quiet and calm (secluded) but still central. Just 150m walking distance to the ocean and surf break, but still (50m) off the main road what helps you sleep better. And the grocery store is also just 100m away and several restaurants are in close walking distance. ... more   less

“The room for three was spacious enough. No safety boxes though in case you bring valuables.”

“Request a room on the second floor or further from the communal kitchen. There isn't a ton of communal space and people tend to gather in the kitchen. Many folks get up early to surf and because the windows are only screens, noise and cigarette smoke carries inside easily.”
