Hotel prides itself on simple comforts, reasonable rates, and a unique brand of Costa Rican hospitality. A two-minute walk to the beach, our hotel is super convenient for surfers, swimmers, runners, sun-bathers, photographers, and all kinds of beach-lovers. Surf year-round without a wet suit, relax on the beach, take walks during low tide, and enjoy the warm and friendly social scene at sunset. If you love the beach, there is no better place to stay in this area than Hotel Playa Carmen. We are within walking distance as well of two other consistent beach-breaks: Malpais and Santa Teresa, and roughly 20 minutes by car to Hermosa Beach, an excellent spot for all ability levels, especially beginners. We are centrally located near laundry services, the bank, surf shops, and our locally famous international restaurants. When you walk around town, you'll hear many different languages, meet people from various cultural backgrounds, and sample cuisine from many countries. Come stay with us.

This hotel was basic, but very comfortable -a nicely situated place to stay a short walk from the beach and in the center of town. The pool in the courtyard was very clean and beautifully designed. The highlight of our stay here was clearly the staff. The people at the desk were extremely helpful, personable and informative about the area. They were very engaged with us every time we entered or left, going out of their way to help us with our Spanish, even though they themselves spoke English well. They were helpful about giving us their honest recommendations for restaurants and helping us with some local travel plans. The woman who prepared the breakfast was also very helpful and lit up when we used our basic Spanish.

Stayed here one night, its about 100 meters away from the beach. Room is decent, the price is correct, beds are nice, location is good. the only thing I can find a reason to complain about is the breakfast. Try alot harder, that breakfast is bs. Other than that, no reason to complain, Ill stay here again.

We stayed here in June 2019 for three nights. Rooms were ok, beds weren't the most comfortable, somewhat outdated furniture, and some critters in the rooms (ants, mosquitos). While we were here the cleaning staff cleaned the rooms with the balcony doors open and the hallway door open, so that may be how the critters got in. The AC worked well. Breakfast: eggs, gallo pinto, coffee, toast, and fruit: in the morning was delicious!! We were a quick 2-3 minute walk away from the beach, which was beautiful with amazing sunsets. Restaurants we ate at along the beach and along the main road had a great selection of options (very Americanized), but every meal we had was delicious! Luis, front desk clerk, was very helpful, he answered every question we asked with a smile. Luis also scheduled us a paddle boarding excursion with a professional paddle boarder, Edith, who was extremely patient with a non swimmer. This is a great surfer town to visit with outstanding food and friendly people.

Room Tip: A room on the second or third floor would give you a view of the beach.

Are people being paid to write these reviews?! This is more like a roach motel! My room stinks, closet stinks. I had to have the total linen removed from the bed, because they stunk. There was actually a huge roach in my room. Not even a cup of ice, was available. The only upside was the friendly and courteous staff. I won’t be back here ever again!
