Visited Belize in late Dec for a trip with family and friends. Villa Margarita exceeded expectations and what made it truly special was the staff at Jaguar Reef. Special thanks to Odalis, Chef Rahim, Denis, Chef Abel, Bruno and Jason for going above and beyond to make our stay amazing. Don’t forget to visit the Big Dock bar when you visit. Thank you all so much!!
Though the Jaguar Reef Resort and adjacent Villa Margarita are a short 5 minute drive from town, it is well worth the oasis you arrive at. The main lobby and restaurant offer tranquility and panoramic ocean views. All of the guest services staff and servers, most especially Shakira, helped make our stay wonderful. The Villa is beautiful and private. Feels so grand an luxurious when you walk in. The views are everything you would want in a Caribbean vacation. If you can't handle walking a few flights of stairs or walking down the beach for breakfast, this place isn't for you. If you want to peace and relaxation, stay here. Make sure to go up to the top of the Big Dock for a cocktail. The atmosphere can't be beat. Thank you to the staff for making our stay so wonderful. If we come back to Hopkins, it will be to see you all!…
There was three of us sharing a spacious room. I recommend the 3rd floor(if you can do stairs) for best ocean view. You’ll walk up a winding staircase looks like a big tree. You walk into your room and have a large living room, bathroom and small kitchen as you walk in. The main bedroom has a massive bathroom that includes a jetted tub. Outside is a patio with beautiful ocean views. There is also another sitting area outside for jungle type views. You have a pool and hot tub to share with the other rooms, most of the time we had it to ourselves. The best part is the beach is just a couple steps away. Breakfast was included in our package and was great portions. Each day Walter made great drinks either at the pool bar or big dock. I felt the drinks were high quality compared to other resorts I’ve been to. Everyone honestly always took good care of us. If you want to see manatees goto the big doc bar, they sometimes like to hang around there. Also, snorkel south water reef. It’s a nice half day trip with lots to see and some of the clearest waters in Belize. One thing I’d recommend if being prepared for sand flys. Regular insect repellent does not work well for them. Lemongrass oil is supposed to deter them. It’s there’s a breeze they won’t bother you! Truly a great place for relaxation and adventure!…
This spot was wonderful! A friend and I had the whole second floor to ourselves-the space was clean and quiet and we had full access to all the amenities at the Jaguar Reef resort. The resort was clean, well maintained and the staff were the staff were very friendly and helpful. especially for meals with my friend's very strict food allergies. They took excellent care of us and I would definitely come back and/or recommend to anyone looking for a nice, quiet beach getaway.
My husband and I visited Belize for the first time in January and can’t wait to return. The second floor room was beautiful and had a stunning view of the sea. Villa Margarita is a quiet little building in the resort - which has every amenity you could need available. The restaurant has nice food, albeit a bit on the pricey side. The wait staff and all resort staff are friendly and accommodating. Hopkins is such a cool place to visit. We ate most meals off the property as we wanted to experience all kinds of food on our holiday. The food in the hotel beside Villa Margarita by chef Rob was probably some of the best we had all holiday. His steak is truly incredible - and I am from Alberta so I know steak. There were lots of eating places in Hopkins and the hotel zone this resort is at, so we did that. Only one was really awful - Peers Place - definitely don’t recommend that one. We did a few excursions, although most were booked with an excursion company in town. My husband went reef fishing and caught a ton of fish. The chef at the main building cooked it up for us although we still had to pay for dinner (weird). Still, it was fun. We had 2 snorkel excursions through the downtown company (can’t remember the name but it was operated out of a sea-can downtown Hopkins). These excursions were incredible small group trips. The tour guides were awesome and the experience was the highlight of our holiday. The one thing we were surprised about Belize is how expensive everything is. We wanted to pick up a bit of liquor and snacks for our room and were shocked at the cost of everything. Alcohol is at least as expensive as at home and snack food was ridiculously priced. A bag of potato chips worked out to be about 7 $ CAD. Restaurants are similarly priced to home as well, so bring lots of money! All that being said, we fell in love with Belize. The people are lovely, the scenery is breathtaking, the vibe is relaxed. Villa Margarita and in fact all the Jaguar Beach resort is beautiful and service is perfect. We can’t wait to go back. …
