We stayed here for 1 night whilst passing through to see the Waitomo caves. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The room was fine, we had a twin room which made up part of the main house (which is usual for B&Bs). This is a great place that gave a different experience. As a young (mid-20s) couple from a big...

Pros: wonderful owners, nice rooms some with ensuite some with shared bath. They also have 2 separate cottages for larger groups. Very affordable. 6 minute drive to Waitomo caves. Have a farm with big birds (ostriches, emus) and miniature animals (sheep, goats even highland cows) You can get an ostrich omelet for breakfast. Also have a very friendly dog and...

What a great find! The kids were right in their element! Animals everywhere, including newborn kittens in the lounge. They were able to help feed the calves and ride ponies and collect ostrich eggs. Ross and Ann were very welcoming and we were made to feel right at home in their home. They were helpful in recommending places to visit...

Thank you for your nice review. Seeing the children enjoy the farm experience is a pleasure for me and makes every day enjoyable. The animals entertain and we all enjoy the result! Cheers! Ann & Ross at Big Bird

We stayed in one of the cottages. It was very spacious and the hosts were very accommodating and helpful. We couldn't believe how little we paid to stay here. The opportunity to feed the animals was neat and the location was excellent - a bit out of town so you didn't hear anything and could see the stars at night....

We came to see the Waitomo glow worm caves but Anne and Ross and the BBB&B made our trip. We rolled in late but Anne came out greeted us warmly, set us up a cozy room, gave great suggestions for places to eat and see, made us a map to a secret night walk with the glow worms and even...

A group of us stayed a couple of days and found the accommodation cluttered, not very clean, and the meals barely average. Was very expensive for what we received. Would not recommend. Stay elsewhere!!

Disappointed also! If we knew, any guest who was less than happy, we would offer to find a more suitable "up-market" option. Likewise, if dinner was 'average' the first night, we could have offered several other good restaurant options close by, for the 2nd night. Dinners are offered at guests request and a service mainly for those who are "older"...

If you enjoy a farm home stay this is tthe place to visit. Ross & Ann are great hosts, entertaining & provide a delicious home cooked meal [where else could you get an ostrich omelette for breakfast & then meet Victoria who laid the egg]. You can also meet, pat & feed the menagerie . We thouroughly enjoyed our stay.

Stayed here after visiting Waitomo caves. Our stay was only 1 night, and as far as B & b's go, this just jdoesn't cut it. We stayed in the main house, the rooms smell musty, there is carpet outside on the front entry which smells of damp, so first impressions were not good. There are cabins on site, but they...

We appreciate everyone naturally has differing "criteria" for enjoyment. The "working farm" situation is very different to a professional star-rated city environment. While the farm homestead and cottages are "older" in style - every effort is made to ensure they are clean & tidy, warm & comfortable - the most common comment being how "comfortable" the beds are with sleep...

We stayed for two nights in February at the end of our trip. The rooms were quaint and comfortable and pretty reasonably priced. It is probably better for families who love animals than couples, but the farm tour was fun. Breakfast was good, though not all that memorable. The couple who owns the farm is sweet and happy to give...

“The bungalow and the chalet are best for privacy, but all rooms in the house looked comfy too. We stayed in the bungalow which was good with a toddler who likes to wake very early. We only stayed for one night, but the kitchen would have been great for self catering.”
