This real jungle lodge is situated on a wonderful place. It's not often to find such a clean and comfortable place on the island. We recommend to taste the delicious food and really enjoyed the personal atmosphere and warm welcome! The owners know a lot about the environment and the island, so we had many interesting discussions about, food, locals,...

Roots is a unique place in Dominica. Nested in the middle of the rainforest, it was the perfect retreat for us in the midst of tropical trees, birds and a beautiful garden. It's a 15 mn ride with 4WD car, from the main road, but this is not a surprise for Dominica ;-). The river that runs on the beautiful...

Roots is an amazing place to stay. The road was damaged in the hurricane in 2015, but will be fixed in October 2016. In the meantime, it is completely safe and passable with a 4WD and enough patience to drive slowly. If you are nervous about the drive, call the owners, Martin and Guadalupe, and they will pick you up....

We had a great time at Roots. It is high up in the jungle, at the end of a very difficult road, but once you're there, there is no escaping of the jungle experience: the quiet (except for the noises of nature) and the abundant rain. The cabins are nice and clean and offer nice terraces with views on the...

I wasn't expecting much from an "eco-lodge" but was absolutely blown away by the lodgings. Tthe managers (Esteban and Flor) were very friendly, easy going and very informative about the island. My husband and I enjoyed our time very much at Roots. It's very clean (Martha does a very good job of that), and comfortable. If you don't like nature...

Estefan and Flor (managers) were excellent in every way. The room was clean and spacious. The bed was very comfortable. We were in one of the cottages (2nd level) and loved the porch (amazing view and great birdwatching). We enjoyed the long walk through the Forest Reserve and the waterfalls and pools. The 2 resident dogs were very friendly. The...

If all that you need is a confortable "B&B" and you just want to reconnect with nature. This is the right place! I liked the diner too, Guadalupe, the manager, made excellent meal with simple ingredients, fresh juices every morning and wonderfull cake. And even though the portions are big enough , you still want more. If you want to...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Leave your everyday-world behind and join us in the magical jungle of Dominica. An untouched paradise where the air is clean, the water is fresh and the rainforest bursting with life. Right in the middle of it all you will find Roots Jungle Retreat. The perfect getaway for a natural, fun holiday, voted # 1 on Trip Advisor for the past year. Switch off your blackberry and experience the jungle sounds, the parrots and the fireflies, the refreshing water of the Bamboo river, and the beautiful organic food from our own jungle garden. We are 100% off the grid and eco-friendly. You will sleep in huts built by local Kalinago-Indians, with very comfortable bedding, as you need your rest after a day of fun. There are a million things you can do, but the great thing about Roots is that it’s also perfect for doing nothing at all. We are located next to the gorgeous Bamboo river and have our own swimming hole and little waterfall. You could just spend the whole day on the sundeck by the river reading a book. And we even have our own jungle style spa. We have built an Indian sweat hut for a nice detoxing experience. First you heat up until you start to sweat heavily, than you simply cool off in the river. Great for blood circulation and the immune system. But even more important: a great way to revive. More active visitors love to hike up the river. Further up on the mountain there is a bigger waterfall that is not reachable by road. You’ll have this magnificent place all to yourself! ... more   less
