Travellers' Choice
A small, family-run establishment, the West Loch Hotel dates from around 1780, and is well known locally for having some of the best food in the area. We are well placed for guests passing through, and for those wishing to spend longer in the area, exploring Argyll & the Isles. Ideally located for people heading on the whisky trail to Islay (just minutes from the ferry), most guests find our large whisky selection the perfect start to their adventure! A charming, former coaching inn, the hotel has been sympathetically modernised over the years, retaining many of its original features. Our rooms are dog-friendly, with a choice of double or single rooms, and we have also got family rooms available for those travelling with children. Able to cater for small events, from birthday parties to weddings, we always go the extra mile to make sure your special occasion is extra special.

After our experience I’m shocked reading the other reviews. I’m so grateful we were only booked here one night. Unfortunately when we arrived without a car a note directed us to our key and room and that no dinner or breakfast service was available. We understood that there was an illness with someone however, we were quite taken aback that there was absolutely NO staff there. On top of these unknown inconveniences no prior notice was given to us by email or text as to what to expect. Also the room we were assigned was shockingly small, more of a closet than hotel room. Throughout our two and half weeks travel through Scotland West Loch was more expensive and the least comfortable place we had stayed. We aren’t snobs and love to stay in quality quaint places, however West Loch needs a total makeover.

We stayed in area for a wedding. When we pulled up in the car parked we where greeted by a lady shouting we thought she was calling for a dog ...no she was looking the the chef! When we entered onto hotel the reception area was welcoming apart from the chef slumped behind the desk looking on the edge! The lady checked us in and was very passionate about the food and the high quality of it and booked us a table. The room was ok bit basic. We stayed for 2 nights. The disappointing side of the room was the housekeeping staff came in made the bed took away a dirty towel did not replace it and left the dirty mugs on side and didn't replace for clean. I would have expected this to have been done. We only ate breakfast one morning unfortunately our order came out wrong but because of the time we waited we didn't say anything. What we had been served was of amazing quality and tasty. On the second morning we d

We booked into this remote hotel last minute because our ferry was cancelled and found ourselves treated to a tasting menu created by Will Hay, a wonderful chef who worked with Heston Blumenthal and Gordon Ramsay. The room was small but comfy with a view of the loch; the bar was well-stocked and convivial; and the service (Babs) was excellent and fantastically friendly. It was somewhat surreal and a fabulous experience. Photos won't do justice to the meal(s).
