This is possibly the only big hotel to stay at in Balestrand. All the common areas are grand, the staff are very helpful and friendly, and overall we had a very comfortable stay here. The restaurant has the most incredible view and many reception rooms to sit and have tea/ coffee with a book. The rooms though are very dated....

This is a lovely hotel in the village of Balestrand on the north shore of the Sognefjord.A family run hotel with a warm welcome from the family and all of the staff. Lovely rooms, excellent food and wonderful views. We have visited 7 times and only illness has stopped us going back again. A real home from home. Thanks to...

A beautiful enchanting unique hotel set on the edge of the Fjiords in Balestrand. This lovely family run hotel is built mainly of wood and has hosted many famous guests, including King Olav. The cuisine is excellent. A very quiet and peaceful location with country walks in breathing scenery. Some of the guests rooms require updating, but the main rooms...

Balestrand is a place taken right out of the picture postcards. Kviknes Hotel - plucked from the skies. Both together...is heaven on earth. How to get there: - I took a Norled boat from Bergen early in the morning and reached Balestrand. As the boat approaches Balestrand, you see this property nestled amidst the low clouds amidst the fjords. I...

Newmarket Holidays organised a good week's stay and plenty of excursions. There were 80 of us in the group - but our Tour Managers were faultless. We were lucky with the weather (apart from a thunderstorm just after we arrived at Bergen) and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Highly recommended.

Great hotel on the side of the fiord. The dining room was huge with a fantastic range of starters. Fish were high on the starter menu with a tempting display and presentation. Three cooked main course options in fish and three in red meats with at least 5 vegetable dishes plus potatoes provided the main coursections selection. The desserts too...

Very good hotel located on the magnificent Sognefjord. Hotel has two buildings: the original one (no elevator) and a new one -- ugly from outside but with simple comfortable rooms. Beautiful surroundings, nice walk to the village. Convenient home base if you want to explore the area. Excellent buffet for breakfast and dinner with enormous number of dishes. Staff is...

The Kviknes Hotel, which dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, was a favorite resort of Kaiser Wilhelm II, and a visit there makes it easy to understand why. Located on the magnificent Sognefjord, the hotel's setting is idyllic. A short walk out of town leads to a hiking trail which, although easily negotiable, nevertheless ascends well over 1000 feet and...

This hotel has an excellent location and the mix of old and new is probably unique. Staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. The bedrooms however are dated and in need of renovation. The room lighting left a lot to be desired and there are no tea/coffee facilities offered in the bedrooms. However the location and views make up the...

Balestrand is a magical place...after a thrilling ride on the Sognefjord ferry, we landed at the Kviknes. The room is very plain, no frills, but comfortable. High points: walking around at twilight with very few people around, visiting the quaint old church, and the amazing seafood buffet! Wish we had more than one night there!
