Before we arrived I expected to stay at a basic hostel, as the name suggests. Upon arrival a pleasant surprise awaited us as we came into the room, which was nicely furnished and well cleaned. The breakfast is really good, better than many hotels I stayed!

I have come here for the last 13 winters for skiing. And I love it. Normally I use one of the old rooms. It is not much in comfort but I spend all the time out of it anyway, either out on the tracks or in Top Hall, the fireplace lounge. On the other side of the corridor (with a... More

We stayed here for the weekend and we all had such a pleasant stay. This place felt more like a hotel than a hostel. We had a family room and the room was big, clean and nice. The reception area with the restaurant was spacious and nice. The surrounding area was very pretty with amazing view from the hostel. We... More

Very nice and clean cabin. We were 4 people and a dog. The hostel has exellent homemade meals. We can recommend this place as a nice place to stay when you plan to do tracking in the area. Also free available boats for the guests! That is actually very rare in Norway!

This is probably the best hostel we have stayed in run by a lovely lady. It is located in a ski area (alpine and cross country) above the town of Rjukan overlooking Kvitavatn and close to Gaustatoppen. It is made up of attractive traditional and modern wooden buildings, with views of the surrounding mountains including Gaustatoppen. Free wifi and parking.... More

I have been here one week every year for twenty years in a row and I will also come back in the future. Wonderful full service (breakfast and dinner) hostel with a cozy common area and a big ski stall. Perfect for cross country skiers and it is great value for money - notice that the is not a luxury... Me and my husband came to the lodge for our honeymoon, my husband has visited before, with his children and as a group. It's very clean, cozy, friendly and efficiently ran! The food is plentiful and delicious! There are many cross country tracks which are well signposted (and listed on their map according to difficulty and length) and freshly cut... More

A perfect place to stay if you are visiting Gaustatoppen or hiking in the area. We got a room with bath and a balcony with a great view. The room was large, clean and beds comfortable. Bathroom small but modern and clean. There is a relaxing area with a fireplace and lots of space. Great style and decor. The couple... More

I stayed for one night and wish I could rectify that. It is a lovely hostel, situated very close to the hike. The breakfast and bedding was included in our booking and at an extra there is the option of packing the breakfast for lunch too. We had bought food from the supermarket so did not need to pack the... More
