Hotel nicely situated in the heart of old Modica. We found exactly what was advertised on the website. The room was clean with a balcony looking into the old city. However, the bathroom would needs some refresh paint on the ceiling. Parking is on the street, even if the city was pretty busy we always managed to find parking spots either free or chargeable. The owner was very friendly and accommodating.
The owner/manager of this hotel was very helpful and accommodating. The view from our room (#10) was breathtaking! Staying here felt like a truly authentic Italian experience. Take heed - there really are 88 steps to the entrance of the hotel, just as the hotel description states. Keep this in mind when considering luggage, strollers, etc.
Well, the B&B description doesn't lie. There is, indeed, a 40 stairs flight awaiting you before you arrive but let not this scare you as you will be rewarded. Antonio, the owner, obviously knows Modica from top to bottom and will give you all the guidance you need to see the jewels of his town. He also knows a fair amount of restaurants as he was able to secure a last minute table for us on ....December 24th.. The room (#4) we had was spacious and yes, it had an impressive view over the town and a small balcony (#3 and #5 too). Breakfast was ok and to be honest the only negative was a strong sewer smell in the bathroom.
The owner of the hotel was really nice and very accommodating. I made an error in my reservation and he showed us all the available rooms in the hotel and gave us the prices so we could choose what we wanted best. The rooms were clean and utilitarian. He gave us great recommendations for dinner and places to see in town. The breakfast was pretty standard fare (a few unremarkable pastries, yogurt, cereal, fruit, and fruit juices). There is only street parking on the main street.
Lovely hotel, great views of a beautiful town, and a very cordial and welcoming proprietor. But - be prepared for some serious cardio workouts. From street level to the hotel entrance you need to hike up about 90 steps. And most of the rooms are higher still. Pack light!
Hotel is located conveniently on the main street in town and our room had a small balcony with a very nice view of the upper part of town. The GPS does not locate this hotel well so you have to pay attention to the instructions the hotel gives you and look for the bank (it's towards the end of the main street). There are a decent amount of stairs up to the main office. The manager was very nice and his English is great. Clean room with a nice big bathroom. I would highly recommend!
The owner, Antonio, was so friendly and accommodating and fluent in English. My first morning, I slept through breakfast after a long travel night, and he had saved food for me when I emerged. He also personally phoned Alitalia multiple times for me and arranged delivery of a lost suitcase. He was very helpful in directing us to locations, creating delicious breakfasts, and make sure our room was clean and comfortable. Our room was very spacious and quiet, with a great view, and we were close to everything. Be warned, though, that there are many steps to the entrance, so do not stay here if you have any mobility issues.
The host couldn't have been more helpful with directions, recommendations and any other information that we needed. We had a great one night stay in a lovely comfortable bed. We felt spoilt by the amazing view of Modica from our room
The Hotel Relais Modica (HRM) is a wonderful place to base yourself in Modica. The location is very close to St Peters and it's a great spot. Once you get to know Modica you will understand that the steps to the hotel aren't really that many but it might surprise you at first! If you have mobility problems I would not recommend going to Modica as the town is on two main hillsides and is full of steps; that's just the way it is. Everything else about the town is great for tourists - there is much to see and do and the town is really wonderful. I read a review here where someone said there wasn't much to do in and around Modica and I feel like they must have gone to a different town or done something wrong because we stayed 4 nights and we found plenty of things to do and we didn't get through our full wish list (partly because we went to the beach twice for great swims; they're about 20km away). Antonio the owner is a very kind person who helped us many a time and showed us amazing hospitality. He speaks English very well. Our room was really lovely (#10) and the view from our balcony was to die for. It was hot when we visited and the aircon in the room definitely works. Antonio puts on a lovely breakfast and makes good coffee! He is also really strong - he carried our heavy bags down to the street when we checked out, seemingly without any trouble! We were visiting friends who live in Modica (they used to live in Australia) and this is where they recommended we stay and it was a great choice. If you have a car (we didn't) call Antonio to discuss where to park it. Our friends live nearby and they park 'up top' for free. Parking on the main street is not free, but you could drop off your bags from the street and then go park 'up top' if you had to. We would stay there again tomorrow if we could - we had a great time!…
We really loved our 4 night stay in Modica, one of the Sicilian baroque towns and the Relais Modica was such a great place to base ourselves to explore the area from. Antonio looked after us with breakfast every morning, helping us with Italian and with really good suggestions for places to visit around the area. Our room was spacious, clean, light and with a balcony from where we could see all the gorgeous old town. Modica is a bit different from the main touristy towns - we visited all them too but really felt we were a part of a town with real living going on as well. Fantastic places to eat, drink, enjoy Modica chocolate, gelato, cafes etc in town.
