#10 of 256 B&Bs / Inns in Gallipoli
In the heart of Gallipoli, where the past meets today’s dynamism, lies the Relais Charles V, in an aristocratic building in Corso Roma, at the corner of Via D' Angiò.The property is a few steps from the sea, but it is also well placed in the most lively part of the town, with its restaurants, bars and cafes and all sorts of shops and services. Our spacious rooms, whilst keeping their original features, boast modern furniture of extreme refinement, cured in style and details. Each room has vaulted ceilings and marble chip floors, and is equipped with a minibar and air conditioning, entrance with key passes and free wifi. The rooms are also serviced with toilets of high quality and technology, large showers with waterfall shower heads and marble shower trays. There is also a de-luxe room, equipped with a Jacuzzi. You will be served a typical Salentine breakfast, an open buffet offering homemade bread, jams, cakes and pies, all to be enjoyed under the living room magnificent frescoed ceiling or on the terrace during the periods in which it will be more pleasant to be outdoor. At sunset, at you return from the sea or the excursions or the shopping, you will enjoy a refreshing aperitif on the terrace. The Relais is situated on the beautiful Corso Roma from which, by a short walk you can cross a bridge and enter the historic center of the town, marked at its entrance by a beautiful castle, a XIV century fortress reflected in the sea, and one of the most important ports and markets for fresh fish in Salento. Then you meet ancient palaces and churches, through very narrow streets at whose entrances the invasion by Turks, Saracens and pirates where prevented by courageous combats. The Relais is 20 minute from the Baroque Lecce and only 10 from Nardò, of which only recently the splendid monuments, monasteries and churches, the beautiful coastline with Santa Caterina, Santa Maria al Bagno, Porto Selvaggio and such findings as Upper Paleolithic caves have been discovered by the large visiting public. In a short time you can also reach the mysterious Otranto, protagonist of the famous classic work “The Castle of Otranto” by Horace Walpole and more recently of “Otranto” by Roberto Cotroneo. At the extreme South of the Salentine Peninsula, Santa Maria di Leuca, " de Finibus terrae " is waiting for you.In addition to scenic beaches, relaxing natural sites and discos, Gallipoli offers a rich summer schedule, with concerts, festivals and cultural events, all accessible by short walking routes within the city.We are committed to offer you a restful stay but also fun, to make you enjoy the culture, the sounds, the flavours and smells of our beautiful Salento and to introduce you to our hospitality.

We searched B&Bs on Google map just before arriving in Gallipoli, and were lucky to find this gem. The rooms were huge, like loft apartments with a "second floor". Staff was polite in a friendly way and very helpful. Breakfast was served on a beautiful, spacious roof terrace - and it was a real hotel breakfast with fresh fruit and all. Yet the price of the night was on the level of a B&B. The location seemed to be in the very heart of Gallipoli's shopping district, still not far from the centro storico. We can definitively recommend this, though not for disabled travellers.

We booked a room at this lovely hotel with just two hours notice before arrival. Thoroughly impressed with our spacious room, the lovely setting and very good breakfast. As it’s off-season, we were the only guests and were treated very well by the staff. We walked to Baia Verde in about 30 minutes and enjoyed Bikini Beach’s facilities. Johnny recommended L’Angelo Blu for dinner and it was delicious. We walked all through the main town in about an hour. One evening at this hotel was just 70€ and we loved it.

We stayed as a family, were warmly welcomed and given information about the area. Johnny and his wife did a great job making us feel welcome. The location is very excellent - everything within easy reach yet quiet enough for a good night's sleep.

Gallipoli is a beautiful old town in the Puglia region on the western side, its an up and coming tourist spot and currently caters to mostly Italians on holiday. That said its very beautiful but I think it will take another 5 years to make it a must visit location. If you do go to Gallipoli be sure to visit Porto Cesareo, which is about 45 minutes by car, the beaches in Porto Cesareo are much better than Gallipoli at the moment. If you have time its also worth visiting Lecce and Taranto. We stayed at this very charming old mansion converted into a boutique hotel and enjoyed our stay immensely, all up there are 8 or 9 rooms, they are themed and beautifully appointed, there are some quirks in each room, but they add to the character rather than detract from it, giving it a truly Italian feel. The rooms are exactly like the photographs on their website and the hotel is very close to the main street and about one kilometre from the old fort town, which is lovely to walk to at night after the sun has gone down. Elena who runs the hotel is very helpful and knows Gallipoli really well and is happy to share great food and beach locations in fact any topic Elena can normally help you with, Elena is well supported by Johnny and Antonia, nothing is too hard for them to arrange for you and they always do it with a really big smile. Breakfast on the top terrace is a lovely way to start the day. If we return to Gallipoli we would definitely stay with Elena and the team again.

My partner and I went away for a few days to Gallipolli to explore a new place. We could not have found a better hotel! It feels very luxurious and Jonny was soooooo helpful with everything. I have a nut allergy and they made sure that I knew what I could have at breakfast and they also gave us some great recommendations for local food place (go to faculas for ice cream - its amazing!). Breakfast is served on the balcony so you can sit in the sun and enjoy the start of the day. The room had a lovely balcony and were well kitted. The bathroom was really nice and everything felt very new. There is not a kettle in the room but there is one in the common area which was great along with various teas and bottled water. Next door was a really nice cocktail bar where they made fresh cocktails for you and on the friday and saturday night there was a live band which really helped to make our holiday. We really had a fantastic holiday and the hotel really helped to make it special.
