Maria Rousse Hotel has garnered praise for its exceptional cleanliness and friendly staff, creating a spotless environment and a welcoming atmosphere that guests appreciate. While the rooms are celebrated for their cleanliness and functionality, some visitors express discomfort due to the absence of air conditioning and mention extra charges for certain amenities.
The hotel's facilities, including multiple pools with bars and diverse food options, are popular among guests, though additional fees for air conditioning and safes have been noted. Located conveniently, the hotel offers a tranquil and family-friendly vibe, with easy access to local attractions, although concerns about the impact of extra costs on the overall value have been raised.

This hotel was booked for me on a recommendation, it is a family run budget hotel- we had room only, but there are other options, on arrival we were greeted by owner George and security guard Tony, we were checked in and in our room without fuss, they first thing that struck me was how clean the place was, it was spotless. I had to run down to the bar to grab some bottled water, (one complimentary in the room would of been nice) there is an extra charge for the air con, I totally expect this in a budget hotel especially with the price of electric these days.
The hotel is tucked in off the main road, with the quaint old town of Malia a five minute walk and the crazy busy Malia strip about the same, but you would never of guessed we were in a busy area, the hotel was so peaceful. It’s perfect for a mixed family, it has two pools again spotlessly clean and plenty of sun beds all good quality and comfortable with water proof toppers on them.
We had lunch by the pool a couple of times, all the food and drinks are good quality at reasonable prices. You are asked not to take your own food and drink to the pool, I think this keeps the place clean but also with reasonable prices I don’t think you need to. I would definitely recommend the Gyros, (a local dish) a chicken wrap, it was the best I tried in Crete, and pool side less than €5 .
Lots of the guests staying had returned time and time again, the little apartments have a small kitchenette with kettle, fridge and two ring hob, lots of plates, glass etc, Maid comes in every other day to replace towels and clean sheets, if you run out of toilet paper you need to buy your own but there are lots of supermarkets within a few minutes walk. Something I can’t normally say about holidays abroad is the washing smelled lovely, if you happen to past the laundry area, the bath mats and towels were out drying and I love the smell of clean laundry.
The room we were allocated was in one of the older blocks, the hotel has recently extended and I was told the newer ones are a bit bigger and more modern. This is not a high rise hotel, all the rooms are on the ground or first floor.
The only thing I would change is the bed, all the beds are single wooden beds, the like I hadn’t seen in years, it took me back to my younger days when I first went on holiday to Spain, granted the mattresses here were thicker than those days and the beds didn’t squeak or creak every time you turned over, but my bed was too small and too hard, I like a proper bed.
Overall we had an amazing stay, all the staff were welcoming and friendly, I can see why people come back time and time again. 👏👏👏

We have visited this hotel for one week in the end of September. Very friendly staff and athmosphere. Very close to all facilities around, no so far to restaurants, pubs and shops. Way to the beach by walk around 15 min. This object have two pools area with sunbeds available for free for guests. One of pool was out of order during our visit. Pool is closed for night time due cleaning process. In the room is a small bathroom with toilet, little kitchen with small fridge. If you need a safe for your valuable things you have to pay 10 euro extra per 7 days. This is very small safe. Clean and tidy, every day we have had room service. There is not computer station available but you can connect your device with free WiFi. Only one thing what we didn't like that is not allowed to have any personal food and drink even bottle of water around the pool area, we felt forcet to buy all this kind of stuff in the pool bar.

firstly great location, out of hotel turn left couple of mins to end of the street to galaxy bar, turn left your are on the strip, turn right cross the road you are in the old town, best of both worlds, midway down the strip there is a covid test centre for your return home test 20 euro's. simple, fast and easy.
grounds of the hotel are excellent and very well kept and looked after,
we stayed in a standard triple room, room was sort of adequate (bring your own hangers) very little storage space, and so much wasted space, where they could of extended the counter worktops along the wall and put shelfs underneath, also put some counter tops in the space as you walk in the door with shelfs underneath, coat rack on the wall and behind the bathrroom door would be good, tv's in need of a urgent upgrade as they are pre war, no usb or hdmi, really old tv's and i know its not the be all and end all but when you have an 8 yr old who somtimes wants to go back to room early due being tired after swimming and walking most of day it would be nice to chill and watch something via usb stick or at least a watchable channel, cant really make any food/snacks as there is no counter top space. room is kept clean though, but you have to move everything thats on the floor and pile onto one of the beds if you want it cleaning proper, due to lack of counter tops /shelfing /units.
the wifi is surprisingly very good, nice pool area although one of the pools was closed due to hotel not being full, which was our view so nice and quite.
the hotel itself is really really worth a visit and my room comments should not put you off going here, it is an excellent 3star hotel,
would i return here? yes i think i would but i would have to look at what other rooms were available 1st, and if they were better than the one we had.

We stayed at the Maria rousse from the 6th to the 13th, we arrived early hours of the morning and was greeted by George the security man who helped us with checking In and showed us too our room. The room was perfect for what we needed, clean, tidy and plenty of room for 2 people! We paid for the aircon which was needed as the rooms did quite warm in 30plus degree heat! The grounds of the hotel where lovely, 2 pools, plenty of space for sunbeds for everyone, bar which wasn't too badly priced and did some food too. We had breakfast at the hotel one morning, paid € 10 each and you could eat as much as you wanted from cooked breakfast to cereal and fruit.
The hotel is in a perfect location, about 5 minute walk from the strip, 5 minute walk from the old town and approx 15/20 minutes to walk to the beach. The hotel is near the bus stops which take you to places like Heraklion, Hersonissos, Agios Nikolaos.
The staff at the hotel where lovely and very helpful with advising on places to visit how to get there etc and especially when we was left stranded because our transfer never turned up to take us to thr airport the staff where quick to help us ring the company and make alternative arrangements. Thankyou Maria rousse for a lovely stay

Fab hotel in a great location. Very clean and very welcoming. Lovely pools and snack bars, Harris the handsome barman will fix great drinks and keep you entertained. The staff can not do enough for you. Mixed age groups and also families. Nearby is the strip, and also the old town is beautiful with winding villages and churches. I saw no trouble at the hotel, security is very good. Tony keeps a close eye on everyone and keeps everyone safe. Rooms are good, including a kettle, toaster and two rings if you want to make food in your room, but it is cheaper to eat out. I recommend this hotel.

I’ll keep it brief:
Positives
Extremely friendly staff
Very clean (rooms & grounds of hotel)
Great location for both the old town & the lively strip.
Decent enough food.
Calm & peaceful in the evenings (defo no rowdy groups of youngsters)
Negatives
You will be charged on arrival if you want air con (& you will want air con). We had to pay an additional €84 on arrival for the air con in our room. Never had to pay for air con anywhere else I’ve ever been, neither had all of the other groups I spoke to whilst there so this really was an unwelcome surprise (had to recheck my booking as I couldn’t believe it but the air con was listed & asterisked as a chargeable extra so don’t overlook this cost as we had done). Tbh I think it’s extortion. For reference the tourist tax was €21 so having to pay over €100 on arrival was a bit of a shock so ensure you factor this in if staying here.
The sun beds by the pool (especially the pool at the back of the hotel) get reserved the night before by the sad, selfish morons who have to sit in the same place every day. I think that when the pools close (which is sunset) the staff should remove any towels that have been placed down on the sun beds to a bin for the idiots to have to collect the next morning.
This may be subjective but we stayed half board & whilst the food was decent there was not much variety & the menu never changes so the same food is on offer every evening. Everything comes with chips by default, would be nice to have the option of some veg & rice, not all us Brits just want chips! I’d recommend just going self catering if you want a bit of variety.
I’d have no hesitation recommending this place but just be aware of the negatives mentioned above.
The beach is about a 20/25 min walk away - it’s a pretty flat walk too so no big deal. I imagined the old town to be way bigger than what it was (I envisioned an old town like Ibiza’s).
Doubt I’d ever return to Malia tbh, nothing really wrong with it but nothing there to entice me back either. Ibiza is in a different league.

On arrival late at night through the gates we had a wonderful surprise. First impressions and it’s a good one. Check in was quick and efficient. Our room was large enough for the two of us and spotless let clean. Small kitchenette on the left and bathroom to the right and a balcony over looking the back of the hotel. Bed and pillow were comfortable too. There are 2 beautiful pools we mainly went to the bottom pool next to the newer part of the hotel, background music and very relaxing. The gardens are beautifully kept and look very nice. We were B&B and breakfast was lovely every day with enough choice for us all. All the staff smiled and welcomed us, if you needed anything nothing was a bother. Great location, off of the hotel turn left then right at the church takes you to the Old Town which is beautiful and fabulous restaurants, Turn left at the church and it takes you down the strip and right at the bottom is the beach.
We loved it and would go back

Hotel is amazing location to the party strip (1 minute walk) and and rooms very clean. Used to having hotel rooms including air conditioning and safe free of charge (even2/3* hotels) here it is not included, it’s not expensive but when you think you have a great room rate and then have to pay €49 for a weeks worth of air conditioning, it is a bit annoying. Anyway, staff super friendly, bar is convenient with a decent food menu too! If you can book the superior room rather than the basic one, do so - it’s much nicer!

We rented three apartments at this hotel for an extended family holiday with adults, older and younger teens. The rooms are spacious and we really liked the split level apparently as it had a large kitchen and seating area that the whole family could use. The other rooms had a small kitchenette. The hotel staff and great and helpful especially the owners who were seen practically doing all the jobs throughout the day.
The pool was a big hit with the kids as was the pool table nearby (1 euro to use).
The rooms are cleaned and towels changed every other day. The hotel is quiet at night as far enough away from the strip. We are out in Old Malia most nights or drove a short was to Potomas or Malia port to eat as restaurants there very good quality and not quite so busy ( though I would recommend booking a table).

+1
The bed .. and pillows .. the best I've slept on (away from home)
The setting .. it is down a very narrow street so I suggest a private transfer as the larger coaches etc drop you off about 100 meters away
Everything within walking distance ..
Cleanliness .. immaculate .. everywhere
Hosts and staff .. perfect .. lovely family atmosphere
Don't go here if you are expecting all night parties and entertainment .. strict "quiet rule" after 11pm
Can still be noise tho from people at the bar which has pool table and 2 tvs
Food and drink all reasonably priced and well cooked.
Safety .. most of us had our doors open 24/7 .. security patrolled at night with most entrances closed and locked.
My friend left some electrical devices out on the table on our patio .. that were still there in the morning
Rooms cleaned bi-daily
On top extras .. local tax .. payable in cash
On top extras .. safety deposit box and air conditioning
We found shower was too small for us and if we bent over our bums kept turning it off 😂😂😂
Personally I would have liked a few more drawers in the room
Room and patio area a nice size
We were self catering .. 2 ring stove .. kettle & toaster provided .. but only 1 plug .. kitchen area really tiny
They do bed and breakfast & 1/2 board
Buffet breakfast served in an enclosed restaurant .. evening meal you chose 3 courses off the special 1/2 board menu in the outside restaurant .. personally I think a breakfast choice menu would also be a good idea instead of the buffet style
We were by the main pool area .. there is a second pool with rooms around it .. plus some more apartments across the road
Nice touch .. book shelves to swop books and corner to leave part used sun tan lotion as well as all the pool floats etc that people left ..
we will be returning

Not sure I totally understand your question but if for example you are saying you will arrive late at night, say 1130pm, of your first day which was on 07/06 and check in is at 2pm on 07/06 yes you an check in at 1130pm that day as you will have paid from 2pm that day. Does that help?
