I got back from my holiday yesterday and I couldn’t recommend it highly enough.
The hotel itself is quite small and family run, which is helpful if there are any issues. Our room was quite basic, which we didn’t complain about as we only really slept in there, as it was in a wonderful location and we were out and about a lot. The air conditioning was very powerful, and very nice considering the heat.

The pool area is quite small but absolutely lovely, with an inbuilt jacuzzi, and the water was incredibly warm. We went at the start of July, so it hadn’t hit peak Cretan temperatures yet, but the water was very warm and very refreshing. The pool and pool area was very clean and the pool bar was very efficient and reasonably priced, with very delicious food and drink. There was the same rotation of staff over the pool bar and we got to know them a bit over the course of our stay, and they were very kind people. The pool bar has a smoking area on the edge of the pool, with in pool seating which was very nice, as you could use the seating to just have a drink on the edge of the pool.
There were toilets by the pool down some steps which meant you didn’t have to go back to your room, and some showers by the pool also.

The location of the hotel itself is fantastic, very close to the bus stops and shops, it’s opposite a small clothes shop and a news-agents style shop which is super convenient, as well as a few ATMs and very nice souvlaki place. It’s down the road from the bars and clubs, only a 5 minute walk, though not close enough that you can hear them when you’re trying to sleep, which was quite nice. This meant that we could walk home drunk safely, as it was essentially just one road, but also have a peaceful nights sleep. It’s about a 10 minute walk from the beach which is also lovely, a very sandy beach where the water is warm and clear.

The breakfast buffet was very nice, a good range of sweet and savoury with good vegetarian options, with coffee, tea and juice. There was classics like eggs and toast, but also Greek food like tzatziki and baklava.

After you’ve checked out, if you want to spend time by the pool they will look after your bags for you, and there’s a shower and changing area that’s lockable for when you can’t get back into your room.

My only complaints are minor things, like the wifi in our room was patchy, though it worked well in the rest of the hotel and by the pool, and that the pool table was slightly too close to some trees which made it difficult to play on one side, though this can be easily rectified if it was moved like a meter.

Overall, I’d very highly recommend this hotel for students, or people who like having fun, though because of the area I wouldn’t recommend it for families.
A very good holiday, and many thanks to the staff for being such wonderful hosts.

Shouldn’t be advertised on Jet2 Vibe, the hotel is very strict with young people and staff are rude to them, as in ignoring us when we said good morning/afternoon. They didn’t allow you to play games in the pool and you get told off for making noise even when not being loud, the hotel room doors and walls are just paper thin. Being a Vibe hotel you shouldn’t have to worry about having a laugh with your friends or having fun by the pool.

There’s positive and negatives about the place, the pool area was really nice and made up for the awful bathroom and basic room, the sunbeds were really comfortable and it was never too busy. The bathroom was the worst I have ever seen, the shower is so small when you stand in it your head just about touches the shower head and shower curtain rail, and the scruffy shower curtain touches you it’s so small. The bathroom did smell quite bad at all times too. The room itself was very basic, and the balcony was tiny, you couldn’t move the chairs or table it was so small. Beds and pillows were like rocks so we used the blankets as pillows instead.

It was though in a great location, with the old town 2 mins up the road to the left, and the strip 5 minutes down from the right of the hotel and the beach a 10 minute walk from the hotel. The breakfast at the hotel was the worst I have ever seen and tasted, wouldn’t waste your money paying for it but there was a great place to eat called Mr Dish 2 minutes down the road which was cheap and worth missing hotel breakfast for. The breakfast was triangle eggs, soggy mushrooms and a few sausages which I think they made so terribly on purpose that people would avoid it.

The only thing is, I think a lot of hotels in the area were very similar with having basic/small rooms and overall not being too great so I guess you get what you pay for. Another thing was air on cost us €60 for our stay, which we had 2 rooms which made it expensive.

I did enjoy my holiday here however I wouldn’t recommend this hotel and wouldn’t return.

We have just returned from this fabulous hotel. Maria, Costas and Lea, thank you for making our 10 days the best experience. Your attentive friendly service was 100%. Rooms clean and spacious. The no nonsense approach on noise makers makes each night enjoyable. We had lovely days round the pool and chilled nights at the bar. Excellent location to restaurants and beach. Bus stop at the end of the road which will take you 5 minutes to reach. Hire a car and get detailed maps and advice from Costas. There is no negatives about this hotel and it’s management. Costas son runs a restaurant near the beach, mention this to Manus ( his son)and you get complimentary wine. We celebrated a birthday while there, a cake and gift came from Maria and Costas and at the restaurant a full birthday fuss made of the birthday girl who turned 6. Families and couples don’t look any where else. We stayed in 216 and 218, excellent location. Fridge in room. You can upgrade but we didn’t feel it was necessary. No tv , but that’s such a benefit. See you soon.

Overall this is a nice hotel with a lovely pool and a very good location. However there are a few negatives which others should know if planning on staying.

I would not recommend this hotel if you are young. Staff seem to take a disliking to younger people, especially if in groups. Whilst there I felt like I had to behave extremely well as staff were always watching. Noticed a group of young boys having their ball confiscated when simply playing with it in the pool.

Breakfasts are not good and much preferred to go out and pay for something nicer.

Showers are extremely small with a shower curtain that sticks to you and makes cleaning very hard. This was one of the things that impacted my stay the most. Toilet seat does not stay open without being held up, making using the toilet a nuisance.

Air conditioning is expensive and in my opinion should be included in the price as it’s a must have. Wifi also not included and when you do buy it, it only works on one device.

Rules stated we were not allowed to buy any of our own food or drink to eat by the pool or in the common living area, which made it hard to relax as I didn’t always want what the hotel were selling

Staff were okay but often looked angry and didn’t smile once during my stay.

The pool was the nicest part of this hotel and would say older people would have a great stay here.

Positives -

The pool area is very nice, clean, with comfortable sun loungers as well as a shaded seating area. In addition, the pool bar was also very nice, pool bar food was lovely and fairly priced.

Hotel location perfect, being only a few minutes walk from the main strip where all the clubs, bars and restaurants are situated.

The 2 gentlemen often behind the pool bar were incredibly nice, spoke very good English and were always happy to help.

The room was reasonably spaced for 3 people, beds were comfy and room comes with a balcony.

Negatives -

The bathroom is very poor, the shower was tiny and was not attached to the wall, this accompanied by the cheap shower curtain meant that every time someone had a shower the entire bathroom got flooded. For paying £800+ per person, it was our expectation that we could have a normal shower and not have to hold it by hand over our heads. On top of this our towels were not changed once by the maid despite her coming in a few times to make the beds and just generally tidy.

The older lady who is on the reception is completely useless and unhelpful, anytime we asked anything of her she made it seem like it was hard work. Furthermore, when checking in she was blunt and unhelpful, told us our room number and didn’t even direct us leaving us to search the hotel and find the room ourselves. Nor were we offered any help with our baggage.

Similarly, the lady who was often behind the pool bar was horrible, same bad attitude as the woman on reception. Completely unhelpful and always had a face like thunder, again made everything u asked seem like hard work.

Very strict rules in hotel so be aware you will not be allowed to play any of your own music at poolside or bring any form of food and drink from outside the hotel. We had a few dealings with the woman mentioned previously trying to confiscate our water bottles we had bought from the shop opposing the hotel.

Air con not included in room, paid 9 euros per day for air con that just blasted warm air around the room and made us all ill.

We stayed here for 2 weeks and enjoyed every minute. The room was maybe a little small and basic but otherwise everything was brilliant. Everything was clean and working, Everyone working there was so friendly and hard working, they really made us feel looked after and everything we needed was taken care of. We can't speak highly enough of the whole team. The pool area was our favourite spot. Comfortable place to relax and the drinks, snacks and food at the pool bar were all really good.
Thanks to everyone who helped us feel so at home. We look forward to our next visit!

We stayed at this hotel in May and I have to say it had a lovely friendly feeling about it. The room was of adequate size with a little balcony that overlooks the pool. There’s a fridge and air conditioning (the aircon is an extra and quite expensive at 7€ a day).
The breakfast is quite nice with a variety of cheese, ham, salami, eggs, different breads, fruit, yoghurt and cereals. I did find the eggs only warm when I tried them on 3 occasions and that was after waiting for the fresh ones.
Having said the above Costas the owner and his sister were incredibly helpful and very pleasant at all times. Getting to the pool area we met some fabulous friendly people from Scotland, N.Ireland and Holland along with some other English people and Germans and I have to say the atmosphere was better than at any of the 50 or so hotels I have ever stayed at. We will definitely return again in the future.

My partner and I stayed here during August 2024. We had an absolutely amazing stay at the hotel. We arrived early hours to a friendly and helpful security guard who got the aircon and safe set up for us.
The next morning, when paying for the aircon and safe, we were informed we had been upgraded for free for two nights and could stay for a discounted rate in the upgraded room.
Overall the hotel was spotless, the food from the poolside bar is of an incredibly high standard and the staff, in particular Kostas, were fantastic. Our room was refreshed daily and towels and bedding was changed every three days. Late check out was available for a fee, but had the room until 6pm. A true gem for anyone wanting to visit Malia.

Great hotel, fantastic staff. Couldn’t fault it at all, will definitely be back. Pool area is perfect, great snacks & nothing is too much trouble. You can tell the owners care about their hotel and giving their guests the best experience. Close to old town and the strip but not too close that you can hear the mayhem. Perfect holiday.
I would say it’s wrongly listed as a Vibe hotel; stags/hens/families with kids won’t enjoy it here, there are plenty of other places for that, Malia Mare is for peace & quiet & a fantastic time.
