We have just returned from a week at the Real Palace which we really enjoyed.
The hotel was all nice and clean and the staff were all really friendly.
It is set a bit of a walk away from the beach and the strip but unless you really dont like walking its really no problem and we did it everyday.
Pool area has plenty of sunbeds and there was never any need to place your towels out at 6am.
The pool bar was really handy and served meals all day, including evening meals too.
Lots of local restaurants nearby in the Old town and we tried a few of them, and we also went down the strip at night.
A cab back from the strip is 10 euros.
The beach was good fun and we made use of the sunbeds which there were loads of.
Id recommend the hotel without any hesitation provided you dont mind a little walk (20-30mins)

Absolutely love this small hotel. My friend & l stayed on a self catering basis but will stay half board next year as the food & service is excellent. We stayed in room 19. Extremely comfortable beds linen changed weekly l think. Plenty of wardrobe space, however a lack of drawers? We coped anyway. The pool area we almost had to ourselves as guests usually chose to go out all day. Bar was reasonably priced & drinks were Premium brands . Cocktails available should any be required. The gardens were well manicured & lawn mowing etc took place in the early evening to keep noise to a minimum during the day. The owner Manos is always around tidying, serving in the bar & generally overseeing things are kept pristine. The hotel is situated to the north of Old Malia which means its very quiet & problem free. Its a 15-20 min walk down to the main street, which l found pleasant. There are no lifts so if you have a disability book a ground floor room. Ramps are provided to every level. Soft white bathroom towels are provided but do bring your own pool towels. Great stay we'll be back next year. Sjx

Pros:
Decent rooms

Beds are comfy

Food is alright and cheap

Pools good

Felt safe

Some friendly staff

Cons:
Rooms don’t get cleaned whilst your there

Added extra charges onto card machine when paying (e.g. once charged €10 for crisps and water which should’ve been like €4.)

Trying to charge us €20 for ‘dirty towels’ when we only had one for the whole trip. (Just say no, we refused to and they left it)

Moody when you want to use card rather than cash

Last day the cleaner barged in at 8, when are check out was 10 demanding we hurry up and check out. Bit rash g.

Having booked the holiday with Jet2 holidays, I was pleasantly surprised at the standard of accommodation, which in Greece can sometimes be fairly basic. The hotel is small but modern, well kept, with gardens, a well maintained pool and small bar/restaurant. It is situated about 20 to 30 minutes walk from the Malia strip, based within the quant Old Town. Malia strip is targeted at late teens & early twenties so being a family with a 17 year old daughter we didn’t fall within this category and from the first night, young, mainly male groups within the hotel became an issue. Not leaving the hotel for the strip, sometimes before 1am, they were loud, drunk, and keen on getting their laughing gas fix…
A quiet period of about 4 hours ensued before the groups returned, continuing to party on the balconies where banging, shouting and loud music prompted the poor security guard to attend where we often heard him being met with abuse in return. On one occasion, the occupants of a neighbouring room were struggling not to vomit as one of their party had soiled the bed as he didn't make it to the toilet in time! On a number of occasions, I had to have a quiet word with the groups about their noise.
We were not the only family there and I spoke with a few who were experiencing the same issues of an evening/morning. This prompted me to speak with the manager and our rep. The rep informed me that she had issued a number of parties a written warning, along with Manos the manager encouraging the groups of an evening to use the bar for pre drinks rather than the hotel rooms. Overall, I feel that the owners and our rep did what they could to help, and the rep did say that she had never experienced these problems at Real Palace before and this was unprecedented. Ultimately, the remaining offending group were evicted by management during our penultimate evening due to their repeatedly ignoring requests to tone down the noise after returning from the bars at 6am..
Would I recommend Real Palace? Yes I would as I do believe the staff and Jet2 took the matter seriously. (Not all the noisy groups were Jet2 customers). I believe that families should enjoy places like Malia without fear of behaviour like this.
We were made to feel very welcome by Manos, Costas and the staff and we were embarrassed that a minority of UK kids couldn’t have a good time without resorting to unreasonable behaviour. My constructive feedback would be that the advertising could make it a bit clearer with regard to suitability for families at high season, although we may have just been unlucky that week. I believe that a later/earlier season stay would be perfect.

I've stayed at this hotel on previous trips to Crete, but this was my first time back since May 2019. The hotel is just as great as always, and the prices of food and drink all seemed to be the same as then.

A large beer is 3.50, glass of wine 2.50, cooked breakfast 4.50, imported beers and cocktails 5.00. There is an extensive bar menu and all the food is cooked fresh. I had a couple of main meals, a couple of lunchtime snacks, and a breakfast during my 9 night stay.

My room was spotlessly clean, and I got decent WiFi in it. It was cleaned a couple of times, as well as the maid checking with me a couple of times if there was anything I needed.

The location is great for me - close to all the lovely bars / tavernas / restaurants in the Old Village. It is a bit of a distance from the beach, but I enjoy a good walk. There are of course other options, taxis, quads, etc.

The pool area is also lovely, very well maintained, with plenty of sunbeds for all + umbrellas. There's a pool table and a table tennis table in the bar area too.

All the people who work there are lovely and friendly and helpful, they can't do enough for you, especially Kosta and Manos. I enjoyed it that much, that I've already booked to stay at Real Palace next April, and can't wait!

After reading some of the recent reviews we were unsure what the hotel would be like for three young girls however we didn’t have a problem. Good place to come as young people on a girls/lads holiday as long as you’re respectful to other guests and staff there shouldn’t be a problem. Staff didn’t mind playing music/pre drinking till late as long as you weren’t to loud which is fair enough. One group of lads did get kicked out whilst we were there but they were definitely to blame as they were jumping in the pool and making loads of noise after a night out. Seen some reviews taking about a nasty manager, I think they’re actually referring to the security guy who works in the early hours. If you’re shouting and taking the piss then you’re obviously going to get told off as there’s families staying who don’t want to be woken up at the crack of dawn. Overall, decent place to stay. Good pool, nice rooms, cheap bar, be respectful to others and there won’t be a problem!

The apartments are wonderful and clean and Monos, Costa and the rest of the team are all very welcoming and helpful so it feels like a home from home. We had three rooms for various family members all arriving at different times, but Manos arranged the rooms so we were all close together and seems to work 24/7 with always the same welcoming smile. We had breakfast every day which was delicious and drinks at night with Costa and Manos which rounded off the day. The pool is great and location is good for the beach, the old village and getting around Malia. Thank you for looking after us all and we will be back.

Very nice , peaceful place to stay at this time of the year . Lovely clean pool and pool area with plenty of sunbeds . Food served is delicious and very good value ! Plenty of chips !! We stayed in a studio apartment, plenty of room for the two of us and a lovely balcony. A couple of minor complaints - no rail on balcony to dry wet swimwear or towels had to hang over chairs or balcony wall . Our sheets were not changed in the two weeks we were there ! We did ask the young girl who does the cleaning if she would change them , she said yes but never did ! And the room could have been swept out a little better than it was ...maybe if they provided a brush and pan ..well we would have done it ourselves . Having said all that , we had an enjoyable stay and would highly recommend....all staff were lovely and Manus and Costa very lovely people!!

We arrived around 21.45, the Sat Nav found it no bother, the car park is just across the road. Manos was there to welcome us surprisingly as it was Easter Saturday, even though we haven't stayed here before, Manos greeted us like old friends and showed us to our room, number 5 on the ground floor. The room was massive with two double bedrooms, with a kitchen area and shower room, loads of storage in the built in wardrobes, we had no complaints, this suited us perfectly. If we were being really picky the only down points were, the fridge had no door shelves for large bottles, during our 2 week stay the cleaner only came in twice, the floor was getting a little grubby and we would have preferred a room on one of the upper floors, as privacy was an issue sometimes with other guests walking by. The food in the bar area was lovely, really massive portions. The grounds were very pleasant, especially around the pool, which was a good size and very inviting. But overall we were happy with our stay, The Real Palace is excellent value for money.

The hotel itself is clean and comfortable, the pool is great, and the options available at the bar for food and drink are very reasonable. The hotel staff were very friendly, and the Bar Man is great to sit and chat to!

Location of the hotel is ideal, a short walk away from Malia old town, and far away from the strip that you can enjoy it, but aren't right in about it.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone, including Families and solo travellers as they are very inviting and you end up chatting to everyone there!

It might be something you would have to check directly with the hotel. We arrived last year at the last week of April and the pool was open but we were warned by the hotel staff that it hadn't been open long (I'm Presuming weeks if that) and that the water was cold! It was too... As for the bars, most of the bars on the strip section were closed. Apparently they were opening in May. However we didn't miss them being closed as there were loads open on the main road which we frequented, plus with the hotel being so close to the old town we just hung out there most nights as it was packed and incredibly lively with locals etc. Hope this helps.
