Kastro Beach is a great place to stay during your holiday in Malia. It is a family owned complex of apartments and studios. Having the greatest location on beach road, we are 1 minute away from the beach and a few steps from all the bars, clubs, restaurants and shops. We arrived at Kastros Beach Apartments\Charlies bar 30 mins before closing and received the warmest welcome we have ever experienced. We were given the option to either go to our rooms or join the party for the last half hour, which needed to be done after travelling all day :) We stayed in room 301, this is a fantastic room with sea and mountain view either side. Our room was bright, modern with all facilities needed for a holiday and the rooms were cleaned regularly more than expected. Throughout our stay the attention from Nikos, his family and staff were wonderful, they made customers feel special and could not do enough for their guests. The atmosphere every night in Charlies Bar was electric, we met likeminded people and partied in Charlies bar most evenings (pre drinks were at 2pm) and we got up to a lot of pranks. All the cocktail were brilliant at Charlies, Gregory yours were the best 😉 the lemon slush should be tried, we couldn’t get enough of them. We have already booked our holiday there for 2021 for a 50th birthday with the girls and cannot wait and hopefully COVID will be over and we can party longer. Even with COVID restriction Nikos had everything in place and everything was cleaned several times ie, the bar, tables & chairs to name a few, even if it was not used, it was cleaned again before a customer would be seated. We visited Nisos beach which is a minutes’ walk from Charlies Bar, they have double beach beds, fine sands, it was like being at a private beach. Kastros Beach apartments is a lively place to stay or visit for good food and drinks and I would recommend it for any age group who like the party atmosphere and to have a great time.

We booked here as it was the highest rated hotel on Trip Advisor... and we weren't disappointed!!
The location of the hotel is amazing - it's right on the strip but far enough away that it's quiet. It's a 2 minute walk to the beach, and a 5 minute walk to the bars and nightclubs.
We arrived at around 10pm, and were worried that we may have an issue checking in at that time. However, this was not the case at all. We had the warmest of greetings from all of the staff working at the hotel/bar. They all introduced themselves, carried our bags and took us to our room. They did temperature checks inline with covid guidelines. Already we were impressed!
The room was basic, but was very clean and had everything we needed. The balcony had a great view over the strip, sea and mountains.
The pool was also quite basic and was shared with another hotel. You weren't allowed to use the other hotels sun loungers, so on a couple of days we did find it difficult to find somewhere to go. So instead, we spent most of the days at the beach. I'd definitely recommend the Bikini Beach Bar (2 min walk from the hotel) - beautiful beach with comfy sunbeds!
Each evening we started our night in Charlies Bar, their cocktails are so good!! The bar is also a really great way to meet others staying in the hotel. We made loads of friends while staying there! Then after the bars/clubs closed (at midnight due to covid curfew) we came back and chilled on the sun terrace. The staff even offered to make us toasties, this was so much better than eating from late night takeaways on the strip!
What makes this hotel so special is the staff. They are so friendly and so welcoming, even taking the time to learn your names. They also give you free shots regularly! It's the first hotel I've ever been to where they actually treat you as friends rather than guests.
I'd recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Malia, it is so good!! We will be back next year.

I don't normally write reviews, however just wanted to let folk know. If you've booked to come on holiday to Kastro Apartments you won't be disappointed. Since arriving we where made to feel most welcome & nothing was too much trouble. This is a family run business, Nikos & all the family work very hard making sure everyone has the best holiday ever. The full complex is well maintained to a very high standard & the pool area is spotless. Would most definitely recommend to family & friends, hope to return next year. Thank you to Niko's & all the family, as well as all of the other attentive staff for a fantastic holiday.

Me and my friends stayed at Kastro for a week in the sun. It has a perfect location by the beach. It’s still on the strip but further enough down for those who aren’t party goers, with a good 11pm cut off for noise from the rooms (which has been enforced). That doesn’t mean that the fun stops at 11pm however as the bar itself is great, offering great drinks, deals and karaoke!
The staff make the place, from Nikos’ family, to Toni and Sarah, all are very welcoming and have really made the holiday great with their hospitality.
The pool area and the bar are great too, and the service for food and drink around the poolside are great also.
Again the location is great with loads of shops, bars and restaurants all around it even a pharmacist close by.
I would come back to Malia JUST for the Kastro and their hospitality- highly recommend this for all guests.

Recently had a holiday to Crete and stayed in Kastro apartments , I would recommend these apartments to any students looking for a fun and affordable holiday. The staff were kind and welcoming and the apartments as a whole had an overall great vibe, as it had a pool and bar attached, and events such as BBQs and bingo nights would be held too. I would love to personally single out Sarah for being the kindest woman I have ever met, she went above and beyond as a staff member to assure we had a great holiday, she always had a smile on her face and was always happy to answer whatever questions we had , wether it was to recommend us good beach spots, good places to eat and drink or good excursions to go on. Sarah helped to make out holiday the best holiday possible :) I can’t wait to return for another holiday too , especially as Crete itself is so beautiful !
The only criticism I have is that the chairs/sofas in the bar let it down slightly as some are dirty or have holes in (but maybe that’s because it’s the end of the season so hopefully will soon be refurbished)

We came to Kastro apts with a group of friends (families) kids ages from 7-20, based on the fact some of them had been to Kastro 5yrs previous. I was a bit nervous as remembered Malia from younger years and didn’t know if be any good for my 7yr old (or my 16yr old) However I didn’t need to worry Kastro apts is a family run business, they are wonderful. We arrived late on a Saturday night and straight away our every need was met, they welcomed us, we were in our rooms within 5 mins, they got us drinks and made us so welcome. We had a one bed apartment- perfect 4 beds none of these sofa beds. Air Con in room is bloody great! Rooms spotless. We had an amazing week at Kastro, the staff treat you like family, nothing is too much trouble, the pool is clean and just the right size, plenty of sun beds (there was 22 in our group - always a sunlounger) not those cheap ones, proper cushioned comfy loungers. No mad rush to get up to save a sunbed. The food is fantastic infact we hardly eat out! The bar at the front Charlie’s, is great fun, good holiday fun with plenty of sing songs. The weekly BBQ was a treat and so much fun for such a low price! It was my daughters 16th while there and the team organised a mini pool side party for her with a cake balloons etc again like doing it for family. You just can’t fault Kastro Apts and I’d definitely return. The apts are at the end of the “strip” but far away from the younger scene and noise. Whilst the Kastro is a mixed hotel there are some younger guests with it being so close to everything but because of the vibe in the hotel of a real family run business it works well and certainly not any “drunken teenagers” everyone shows respect and the owners keep it that way. Thank you Nikkos and team you made Crete 22 so memorable.

Cannot say enough good things about this hotel! The staff our absolutely incredible! Our first day was met with the warmest of welcomes. And staff are always friendly and chatty. Sarah is an absolute asset to the team and we are always excited to see her in the morning! Nikos the hotel owner runs an incredible service making sure we are always looked after. It’s a family owned business too so finding out about their back stories and the development of the hotel was really interesting!
Ava the cleaner was so friendly and loved talking to her in the morning even though we were hanging. She enters the room every other day around 10-11 so bare that in mind if you’re planning a late night.
The food at the hotel was amazing. Very affordable and swift service! Not to mention you can order food at the pool too and have it brought to you!
Little touches like bringing watermelon for free to us on a pool day, and hosting a family bbq on Saturday where all the food was lovingly made by Nikos’ family were definitely some highlights.
The room itself served its purpose. The shower was perfect and the beds were super comfy! Which felt especially comfy after a night on the strip.
If you’re worried about sleep, need not. The hotel is situated far enough away from the main of the strip so you won’t get that noise. There is Charlie’s bar directly in front of the hotel however the noise is quiet enough for even me, an insomniac!
The only thing I could critique is having the pool cleaned more regularly as every-time we went in, it wasn’t the cleanest and was quite put off from going in.
I would definitely come back again! The location for the beach, shops and strip are perfect! And the family feel is so warming and welcoming.

my friend and I visited Kastro apartments on the 1/09/20 for a last minute girls holiday and we had the best 9 days here !! From the moment we arrived the staff were so welcoming and friendly. We spent most nights of our holiday in Charlies bar as the food was lovely and very reasonably priced. The atmosphere in the bar was amazing with a great DJ who played all our recommendations. The staff ensured we felt very safe here even with the COVID restrictions. The location is fantastic, right on the strip, and literally a 2 minute walk from the beach.
We have already booked to return in September next year as we had such an enjoyable experience. We can’t thank nikos and his staff enough !!

Went away for a cheap girls holiday, hotel was amazing and great value for money! the staff are what made the hotel. The staff straight away made us feel very welcome and at home, like your holiday parents! holiday daddy as Nicko's says. During the stay it was my birthday which the staff made very special always giving us lots of free drinks and shots by stefis. Would highly recommend coming to stay at this hotel and having lots of drinks in charlie's bar, with the best dj who plays all your recommendations. fab girls holiday and cant wait to come back to this hotel next year! missing all the staff already, thankyou!

As noted by many of recent visitors Kastros is a great place to stay whether single or group or family party. You are made very welcome at this family run Apartments with excellent local produce and a wide variety of meals to suit all tastes and pockets. All the Owners and staff work hard ensure you have a great holiday. The pool is great with plenty of sun beds and the whole place is very clean and very well maintained and managed. You must partake of the BBQ Nights great fun. The area has much going for just outside is the main strip and a number of Beach Bars and superb sandy beach, plus nearby within a few steps is Car Hire Scooter Hire Quad Bike hire, plus you can purchase a trip up the mountains by Land-rover from Malia. The Kastro is so good I have already booked for 4th June 2021 as have a number of others who were there in October this year.. Chris

The "Rowdy youngsters" tend to stay higher up the strip. I can't guarantee that it will be quiet though. Nico & his team cater for their audience. It was late in a covid hit season when I was there. I can guarantee that you will be made very very welcome & made to feel at home. I've already rebooked for May this year. The apartments are well laid out and there are quieter ones to the rear of the premises. Hope that helps but if you've any doubts get in touch with them direct & I'm sure they will be happy to help.
