Just returned from the most wonderful week at this amazing hotel. A lovey warm welcome greeted us upon our arrival by Athina who was fantastic during the entire week. Nothing was too much trouble and the hospitality was incredible. The cleanliness of the hotel was excellent and I truly could not find fault with anything. The view from our room was so gorgeous to wake up to each morning. The location of the hotel is fantastic. The waiters, George, Dimitris,Giannis and Hlias were excellent - always a big smile and a warm welcome to the restaurant along with the breakfast/kitchen staff Kostas and Kiki, Tonia and Aggelos. The food was beautiful and the location of the dining area overlooking the town and sea made for a wonderful backdrop along with the amazing sunsets. Thanks must also go to the cleaning ladies Eleni and Chrissarla. They kept our room beautifully clean and were always extremely polite and smiling. At this time of the year we found the hotel lovely and peaceful - just what was needed. Being in the mountains there is no passing traffic and no noise. Perfect. The climb up to the hotel is steep and I would recommend hiring a car in order to get about however a taxi costs around 8 Euros from the town - well worth it. The pool area is spotless as is the pool itself and not too deep. We were fortunate enough to be invited in by Athina to see a Cretian wedding reception which was just fabulous. So many lovely memories have been made during our week at the Royal Heights and I can not thank everyone enough for making our stay here so wonderful. I was asked by Athina if, in my opinion, they could improve at all with the breakfast options. Having given a couple of small suggestions the one was available the very next day and the other the day after! We could not find fault at all with the hotel or the staff and thank you for making our holiday a wonderful experience. I certainly hope that I can return one day to this gorgeous hotel and would certainly recommend it to anyone who wants a relaxing, out of the way holiday in glorious surroundings with excellent staff who really make you feel as though you matter and go out of their way to ensure that you have a wonderful time. We have recently returned from a 2 week stay in September, staying in a villa with a private pool. This was our forth visit to the location so that alone speaks volumes in terms of how much we appreciate and love our stay. The staff are very helpful & friendly, all of the site is kept in a very well maintained condition. We had a great stay here. Lovely view and location. Beautiful swimming pool and garden. Staff is very firiendly and the location upon the hill near old Malia is perfect for visiting Malia, the beaches and other places in the area. The hotel has a nice gym as well.

Our 3rd stay here but probably our last. The Ambassador villa 406 that we stayed in is looking tired and dated now considering the not inconsiderable cost. Basically, nothing has been renewed or updated in the 12 years since this place was built. The same can be said of the bar/restaurant areas, damaged seats and that tired look that only a bit of investment can correct. Great breakfast still, despite the Covid measures. We took a look at quite a few hotels on the island during this stay to get a feel for what was on offer and just feel that this place is getting left behind which is a crying shame given it's enviable location. A few USB sockets, a modern TV with HDMI port, kitchen/bathroom refurb and bedroom doors that can be closed fully without the might of Hercules is all that is needed. Oh and seal up the 20mm gap under the main door that allows unwanted creatures easy access, along with the damaged insect screens to the patio doors.

Having stayed here before we thought we knew what we were getting which would be a presidential Villa with a private pool and total relaxation after the year from hell. First few day turned out to be just that although as other reviewers have stated the place is starting to look very tired now considering the money it costs to stay here. We thought because of its location we would be a bit removed from the crowds down in the main strips however from Saturday to Sunday every week hundreds of locals are turning up on mass to use the facilities here and what can only be described as a rave around the main pool from 11 o’clock until 6 pm with music being played that loud you seriously can’t here yourself think or even have a conversation with each other without shouting. We’ve asked the receptionist if this can be lowered slightly as it’s spoiling our stay and this isn’t possible apparently. So it seems day trippers are taking priority over paying guests who’ve spent thousands of pounds to stay here. My advice would be to seriously not stay here if it’s peace and quiet you seek. Very disappointed ☹️

I highly recommend this hotel. Upon our arrival into Greece, the awareness of the year 2020’s unprecedented viral impact is apparent. The people of Greece are doing all they can to protect both themselves and the tourists. Our whole experience, at both airport and hotel have made my family feel safe, secure and comfortable as all done in a friendly way.
The Royal Heights Resort have accepted the COVID-19 crisis and have focused on making their customers feel both safe and comfortable. The hotel is clean and the staff are very friendly and pleasant. My family and I felt welcome, extremely safe, and well take care of.
The surroundings are beautiful set high above Malia with beautiful aspects of both the sea, the Cretan countryside, and the high ground of Crete. The views in one word are ‘Stunning’.
The room was clean, comfortable, and very large for my family of four. The balcony overlooked the very clean pool and sea and the views are fantastic. The room caters for everything. The pool has fountains , a waterfall effect and the area well cared for.
My wife had her Birthday here and the hotel surprised us with a delicious cake. The quality of food and drink are excellent, with the service to match. We were half board and the choice of food is wide and varied, from traditional Greek to more contemporary tastes and of course, something in between. The staff were very helpful in catering to our expectations with Artemis, Stavros, and the rest of team doing whatever they can to make you feel welcome.
For breakfast with Covid in mind, the staff would serve and cater to your request ensuring minimum contact. We had a lovely surprise with Galaktaboureko placed on our table at breakfast..something delicious that went well with the coffee. The whole food and beverage team at the hotel are fantastic.
From our before our arrival, Maria at the receptionist team was in contact with us to ensure our needs were taken care of. We had a warm welcome upon arrival from Athina and Maria and were given a cool welcome drink.
Overall, The service was personal, the hotel clean , and the experience will not be forgotten. Very highly recommended.

We wanted a relaxed and laid back holiday and Royal Heights absolutely delivered. The location is fantastic - panoramic views of the town and really peaceful. The staff were wonderful. Athena and Maria at the front desk were warm, friendly and really helpful. The rest of the staff from housekeeping to the restaurant and bar staff were all really friendly and lovely to interact with. The hotel was very accomodating to my wife's dietary needs and really made us feel looked after. We had booked one of the villas with a private pool and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is coming with children. Our kids loved having their own private pool and we pretty much spent each day there. The villa itself was really clean and the resort is of a very high standard. The town is an approx 15 min walk downhill and there are a number of local restaurants to choose from which I am sure everyone would enjoy. On the way back to the hotel a taxi is definitely recommended😃. All in all this has been a fantastic stay and we will take back fond memories of our stay. If you are looking to stay in the region I would suggest Royal Heights as your number one choice.

We booked a deluxe villa with a private pool. The villa consists of two floors with a bedroom, a bathroom, a guest toilet and a kitchenette. I had often read before that the complex was getting old, but I can't confirm that, everything was relatively modern. It was clean, there was no mold or anything to complain about.
The pool was really big enough and it was great to have your own private pool and outdoor area.
Since the hotel is on a mountain above Malia, it was sometimes so windy and now in October really cool that we always drove down to the beach. The additional investment in the villa with a pool was therefore unfortunately not worth it at this time of year.
The hotel closes for the winter at the end of October and the pool bar was already closed. There was hardly anything going on at the main pool either.
We only booked breakfast, there is nothing to complain about here. There was everything and you could also have eggs freshly prepared (e.g. as an omelette).
The scrambled eggs at the buffet were cold, but you could order them fresh.
The staff in all areas deserves special mention. The welcome at reception was so warm, I have rarely experienced that. The waiter at the bar in the evening was just as great, really warm and super friendly. But all the other areas (breakfast, housekeeping, etc.) are really, really great. Thank you for that! :)
All in all, we can recommend the hotel without reservation if you have a car (the drive up is quite adventurous).
Nevertheless, you should not forget that it is not a German 5-star standard. But it is one of the best hotels we have had in Greece.

We had an amazing stay at the Royal Heights and would highly recommend the resort and would definitely consider coming back again.
Everything from the pre-arrival communication, the warm welcome at check-in, the fantastic service from every single member of the team, the arrangements for outdoor activities (quad bike tours, sailing trips), the recommendations and bookings for restaurants to the final goodbye was dealt with such care & warmth that we really felt like VIP guests. We have yet to experience such wonderful and consistent service from a holiday resort.
We were a group of 2 families and booked 3 villas (2 x Presidential Villas and 1 x Ambassador Villa) for 9 of us. All of the villas had great pools and were kitted out with everything we needed for our stay. The team even laid out an outdoor room service breakfast for all 9 of us in one of our villas. That was a nice touch and showed how Athina and the team always wanted to go the extra mile to keep us happy.
A special mention must go out to Athina and the front desk team, Illas and the team at the restaurant, the housekeeping team and the room service team who all worked so well to make our stay amazing. There was really nothing that we could find fault with this resort or the team.

So two days in on a seven day break which we booked the day before leaving. Somewhat dubious as kids said we will hate Malai and not for parents. Well not when your based here up in the hills in a perfect complex. Room/suite overlooking pool and with a view across the ocean and Malia itself is quite simply first class. The staff in restaurant and pool bar are so welcoming and helpful which is great, especially George who explained everything so clearly. It’s clear that local Cretens use the complex themselves over weekend which in itself is a massive endorsement as the pool area today was mainly locals but for me this just made the place better and more enjoyable.
So pan fried sea bass last night which was expertly de boned in front of myself and Mrs and was simply as good as anywhere in world that I have ever had.
2 days in and both of us agree what a top choice for a Crete holiday

There isn’t a supervised kids club as such during the day unless things have changed, the area is available for you to use though (would be best to contact RHR direct to check on current arrangements)
The soft play area is supervised in the evening which is a god send, ours played before, during and after our evening meals which was great for us.
