Me and my wife came to Pézenas to attend a friend’s wedding in the nearby chateau. Well, the b&b that Veronique ran is nicely presented, keeping the feature of a very old building in the town’s Jewish Ghetto. Even the b&b does not have the modern amenities like TV or air condition, but it offers all everything you such as comfortable bed, hot shower, electric fan, shower gel (the owner is kind enough to lend us for the first night) and simple breakfast with home made brioche, marmalade and plenty seasonal local fruits. I like the super sweet grapes, plums and figs. Anyway, true to any ancient building, it does not have the perfect access to the bedroom because the staircase is helical and narrow. For normal and able person, I believe it is adequate to hold the guardrail up to the top floor where we stayed. Remember, to be staying here can give you a strong sense of history in Pézenas. With the help of the owner, they compliment our experience in this short break.

The positive thing first: the host is very friendly and helpful. She makes you feel very welcome. The not so positive: we did not have a garbage bin in our room and the teeny tiny one in the bathroom was not emptued once. We had no shampoo or shower gel. No towel for our hands. The floor / ceiling is very creaky thin and we kept hearing the neighbours. Breakfast is ok. Very french with homemade goodies, but expect onky sweet stuff.

I stayed with Veronique and Aurelien for 11 days this past spring, and as much as I loved Pezenas for many reasons, I think one of the main motivations that I fell in love with the area was the spectacular "home" I had while there. I stayed in the Picpoul room and it has been a long time since I had such a good night's sleep! The bed and pillows were perfection, and the area so quiet! I slept with the windows open and there was a lovely perfume of jasmine that gently filled the room every night, making for sweet dreams indeed. :) Breakfast was a treat every morning, and I personally have found a new deep love for gingerbread! Breakfast consisted of not only the delicious gingerbread, but brioche, and a hearty multigrain, all homemade. To accompany the breads were Veronique's homemade marmalades, which vary according to the season, but we were treated to orange/pumpkin, fig, kiwi/orange, blackberry, and strawberry. She also offered coffee, tea, fruit juices, yogurt, and fresh fruit. It was an absolutely perfect way to start the day before going out and exploring all the beauty that the area offers. ~ One might want to be aware of the fact that the upper rooms are located up some very narrow, steep stairs, but they are not nearly as daunting as they might look at first glance. I was a little intimidated by them the first time, but found that they were not a problem at all (especially since Aurelien was kind enough to bring my luggage up when I arrived and down when it was time to check out). The little bit of extra effort of the stairs is SO worth it though as the upper rooms have spectacular views and, at least the time of year I was there, constant fresh air. ~ My room was also furnished with a very quiet fan, the best hairdryer I've ever used in my life, extra blanket, hangers for clothes, etc. My room, and in fact the entire place, was beautifully restored and decorated in a way that truly made me feel at home. I don't think it's possible to say too many nice things about La Dordine! I truly loved my stay there, and cannot thank Veronique and Aurelien enough for their kindness in welcoming us into their home. Thank you!!!

This is a VERY late review. My husband and I stayed at La DorDîne in October of 2011 for our 15th anniversary. We wanted a good base in the Languedoc and La DorDîne was perfect. In our travels, we have stayed in several B&B's and La DorDîne ranks up there with the best. Accommodation La DorDîne is very very charming, and the fact that the structure dates all the way back to the 14th century only adds to its charms. We had the Syrah room which is small, but adequate. The window looks out to the street which gives the room lots of natural light. It did not have an en suite bathroom, but the bathroom was just up the hall and it was for our private use so we did not really mind that it was not en suite. We knew all this beforehand as well since the hosts made sure we are aware of it prior to us booking the room. If you have a big suitcase/luggage, you may have a hard time with it on the spiral staircase. So just keep that in mind, or just travel light! :) Breakfast As some of the other reviews have mentioned, staying at this bed & breakfast is like being welcomed into Véronique and Aurélien's home. They put a lot of care in the spread they put out each morning from the baked breads to the home-made jams and creamy yogurt. Everything was fantastic and superb. There is one big table which fosters a communal atmosphere and we found it a lovely way to chat with the other travelers. We had to head out really early one morning and Véronique made it a point to pack two convenient (and still delicious) breakfast to-go bags for us. It was so sweet. Languedoc dinner I am not sure if Aurélien still hosts a Languedoc dinner at the cellar but if he does, DO NOT MISS IT! Not only was the food excellent but the Languedoc wine pairings were all so thoughtful and inspired. We also learned quite a bit about the region's history and culture. It was one of the highlights of our vacation and would rank as one of our most memorable meals. Hospitality I don't think I could say enough good things about Véronique and Aurélien. Their knowledge of the region made it easy for us to decide on where to go and where to find things, from pre-paid cell phones (remember this was 2011 pre-GSM network) to good quality tablecloths. A year after our stay, I wanted to make a picture book of our vacation but realized that I did not have enough high-res pictures of Pézenas so I wrote to them asking if they have some that they can share. Aurélien responded with great pictures WITHIN hours. If that's not hospitality, I don't know what is.

THe key dimension is the warm and friendly welcome, in a professional manner. But a bit expensive, all in all, with a disfunctioning TV set and difficult access to Internet; Breakfast a bit crowdy when the house is full of guests! It might also be noisy, near the street.

We stayed here for four nights last month, April 2016. I can't say enough about Veronique, Aurelien and their two children Leonora and Anselme. Two weeks later and we still miss them all. Their amazing house in the Jewish quarter of the old city in Pezenas was fabulous and lovingly decorated. Our room was on the small side but comfortable, clean and with a fabulous view. We were lucky enough to be there for the Printival, the annual music festival in honor of Pezenas native Boby Lapointe. Veronique and the guests around her breakfast table suggested which concerts to be attend and we saw them all there. It was just wonderful. The feeling of warmth in that community was incomparable. Also incomparable was the breakfast Veronique provided, all homemade breads and cakes, jams from fruit grown in her garden, pain perdu from her bread. It was fabulous. She is a special person as is the whole family. We cannot recommend this place highly enough. Whether you want privacy or community, you will be thrilled with this charming b&b.

We (2 couples) spent 4 nights at La Dordine Gites and we didn't want leave in the end. The host were such a lovely couple and couldn't do more for us with restaurant recommendations and places to visit within the area. The Gites are very comfortable and have everything you need for a short or long stay. The Gite is located in a quiet street within the old town. The owner also has a wine cave nearby that is a must visit. We loved touring the area or walking around the old town and coming back and enjoying our wine. There is free parking that has video surveillance a short walk away. The Gites have a little kitchenette that has everything you need, they are very comfortable and quaint. We loved our stay and would love even more to come back some day.

We came in March and were charmed by Pezenas, which had the relaxed air of an ancient town empty of tourists. The Saturday market was a sight to behold, crowded with a colorful melange of vendors, families and dogs. The hosts at La Dordine were helpful and friendly in all manner of things. Our bedroom was the top floor which was fine for us, but might not be ideal for those who are not willing to climb three flights of steep, narrow, windy stairs.

Park for free outside the medieval heart of Pezenas and make your way on foot to this unusual B&B, located in the town's ancient Jewish quarter. We had been warned that our room was several flights up a narrow, windy staircase, so we weren't surprised. But we were surprised and delighted by the accommodation: a large, bright room, generous bathroom with shower, and beautiful views of the rooftops of Pezenas. Veronique prepared a delicious breakfast with homemade breads and preserves. She was very friendly and knowledgeable, and offered some great suggestions to make our stay in the area more enjoyable.

We recently visited the Languedoc-Roussillon area and had not made any arrangements for our stay. We called the same day (Dec. 26th) and they were able to accommodate us for a small furnished studio the same evening. Aurelien and Veronique could not have given us a warmer welcome, the room was cosy and very clean, location is great (in the heart of the medieval city). Breakfast every morning was all homemade and shared with the other guests around a big communal table in Aurelien and Veronique's home. Be sure to ask them for local recommendations on the area, they are both extremely knowledgeable and so passionate. Wine connoisseur or amateur, make sure to ask Aurelien for suggestions. Encore merci pour un super sejour, we will be back!
