Our wedding planner, Wanaka Weddings, recommended Riverrun as a quiet, scenic oasis. It was absolutely lovely. Meg was wonderful and helpful. Our only regret is that we didn't have more time to stay at the lodge. We would definitely recommend Riverrun and intend to go back there for our anniversary

We loved every minute of our stay at the Riverrun Lodge. A tranquil environment where you can really relax and enjoy the stunning surroundings. Meg (host) and her staff are incredibly helpful and genuine. We would recommend it to anyone staying in the Wanaka region.

This was up there as one of the best places in which we stayed during our trip to NZ. Meg is a wonderful hostess, vey welcoming and helpful. The location is stunning and the room was comfortable and well appointed with lots of small touches. Meg lent us mountain bikes to do a circuit of the Clutha River and in... More

Sorry for taking so long to thank you for reviewing us. Summer is busy! Loved having you stay and the bike trail from the lodge along the river and round the site of the lake into Wanaka is one of my favourite things to do. It is also a lovely walk. More

This lodge is superb. It had the most stunning interior,of any lodge I stayed in in New Zealand. Meg, the owner, has superb taste. The bedroom was very large and most comfortable. Meg is extremely knowledgeable about the region and country as a whole and her suggestions were excellent. The dinner was delicious. Another aspect I enjoyed was the quality... More

A few miles outside of Wanaka set on a 500 acre sheep ranch with stunning views. The lodge is a lovingly handcrafted retreat with five simple but luxurious rooms. The sitting aras boast comfortable leather chairs and wood burning fireplaces. Meg is a delightful hostess. The breakfasts which feature homemade jams and freaks fruit are wonderful.

Staying here was like visiting someone's house - it is intimate, relaxed - and Meg, the owner, treated us like friends come to stay rather than tourists. The rooms (about 6 or 7 I think) were comfortable and quiet. Dining was communal around a small table and we discussed the proposed meal rather then choosing from a menu, which was... More

Sadly we only stayed here one night, but we loved it. Meg was charming and knowledgeable and a perfect hostess. The food delicious, the gardens gorgeous and the room very comfortable. There is lots to do in Wanaka and hopefully we will return to enjoy more of Riverrun and Wanaka in the future.

Meg was the perfect hostess! Not only is the service and the food tops but Meg is a delight to be with. She and John created a truly special property on 500 acres outside Wanaka. When someone tells you that you will have a fantastic stay at Riverrun Lodge, simply believe it. Our stay was in August and my wife and I enjoyed cool evenings and warm afternoons on the verandah. Riverrun is a unique and beautiful 5 star (or I guess circles in the case of Tripadvisor) property with just a great location and wonderful owner. Location: This was probably the best part. Set on top of a hill close to a river, the property is huge. Lots of opportunities for walking and lots of local wildlife to look at.... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Riverrun is a small luxury lodge, 5 mins drive from Wanaka, on a 500 acre farm bordering the Clutha river (New Zealand's largest river) and the Cardrona river. Guests can enjoy walks, running and bike trails on the property. The accommodation is luxurious, stylish, but un-stuffy. The lodge employs a chef and offers a gourmet 4 course dinner to guests Monday through Friday nights, but not at weekends. Evening appetisers are served nightly. Breakfast is delicious. Meg has lived in Wanaka for 18 years and done many of the local activities; hiking, mountain biking, skiing, climbing, kayaking, heli-hiking and heli-biking, cruises out to islands on the lake - not to mention wine-tasting. All the lodge rooms are ensuite, with magnificent views of the Southern Alps. ... more   less
